  1. For me, the small bowel series was pretty much a waste of time and money, as the results came back inconclusive. And no one's kidding about the barium; it took me forever to get it down because it kept triggering my gag reflex. But, on the upside, at least it told me that I didn't have any of the scary ailments that my doctors were looking for when the...
  2. Anyone dig indie music? My favorite band is Belle & Sebastian.
  3. That's awesome! Congratulations! I used to work at Ben & Jerry's and it was the most fun job I've ever had.
  4. Wow, Sally, you're hardcore! I'm really impressed! My colonoscopy was a breeze because it was unplanned (sort of an emergency check), so I didn't have to spend any time worrying about it beforehand. Five minutes after they told me they were going to do it, I was flying on the ceiling from the drugs and I slept for the rest of the day. So I really think...
  5. I was so excited a few months back when I discovered that Cocoa Pebbles were gluten-free, but after eating them on several different occasions, I've realized that they make my neurological symptoms flair up. Has anyone else noticed that? For that reason I'm a little wary of trying other mainstream celreals like Trix. Do you guys know if General Mills uses...
  6. It's definately not your imagination. My left side stops working when I get glutened; just the other day I accidentally dropped (and broke ) my cell phone because my hand just sort of disappeared. Maybe now I have an excuse to buy a iPhone? (haha, i wish.) My mom read that taking vitamin B12 supplements might help with these neurological issues...
  7. I know the chicken nuggets are expensive, but they are so good! I eat them all the time.
  8. Oh man, that used to be my favorite restaurant before I got celiac disease. Did you get to eat the chocolate fondue for dessert, or does that have flour in it too?
  9. I'm a fan of string cheese, homemade smoothies and protein shakes in go-cups, and sandwich bags full of gluten-free cereal like Gorilla Munch.
  10. My stomach "quivers" so much sometimes that if I were to lift up my shirt, you could totally see it moving. ...and it seems like a lot of us have some degree of tingling/numbess. A gluten-free diet certainly can't hurt!
  11. I just got back from a Royal Caribbean cruise and it was so much fun! I didn't book the cruise the normal way (because my friend who skates in the ice show on the ship signed me up), so I didn't get to warn them about my dietary restrictions the way regular passengers do. I was really nervous about it, but I shouldn't have been! We didn't bother with the...
  12. Woo hooo! I'm totally buying it!

ARCHIVED My Dermatologist Made Me Cry

Too bad I'm not in Australia, because your cream-making naturopath sounds perfect! Thanks to everyone for the advice!
  14. I really hate to write unfriendly things about people online, but I'd like to warn anyone in Colorado about my dermatologist so that they won't go through the same thing I did... I've gone to Dr. Barbara Reed a couple of times over the past few years because she is a really highly regarded dermatologist in Denver. She's always been very nice and she clearly...
  15. Hi!
  16. Update (for the hoards of celiac Aspenites ): I moved back to Denver. Ta ta!
  17. Picnics are a great idea! Along the same lines, I tend to invite dates over for chocolate chip pancakes (I just add chocolate chips to Pamela's pancake mix -- soooo good) even if it's an evening thing. That way I have control over what we're eating even though I'm a terrible cook, AND my date gets a clue from the get-go that I eat weird things at weird...
  18. I used to just say that I was "allergic" to wheat, but I had trouble getting people to take me seriously (as they usually assumed I had an eating disorder or that I was just being picky) but now I say that "I have a genetic autoimmune disorder that will cause my body to attack itself if I eat wheat," and it works a million times better. I know it kind of...
  19. Thanks for all of the advice, guys! I'll definately try to pinpoint whatever it is that I might be allergic to on top of the whole gluten thing. I was really interested in what Jestgar said about being more sensitive to allergies since going gluten-free because I've noticed that too and I was starting to think that maybe I'm just becoming a bit of a hypocondriac...

  21. I'm fairly new to eating gluten-free so I'm still in the brand-testing phase. One of my friends was trying to be supportive, so she bought me a gluten-free Amy's brand cheese pizza, which was REALLY nice of her, but when I ate it my throat swelled up and I had to go to the emergency room, where I threw up repeatedly. I had never had a reaction like that...
  22. I live in Aspen and I'd totally help to!

    ARCHIVED Team Gluten Free

I just checked out your website and that is such a fabulous idea!!! I'm going to look around and see if there's something in Colorado that we could form a team for.
  24. Does anyone on this site live in the Roaring Fork Valley? Or Western Colorado in general? I'd love to make some gluten-free friends!
