  1. Some of the symptoms you describe sound like my sciatic problems. Sciatica has a tendency to radiate down one side of the body, down one leg, out one arm. Nerve pain is not necessarily the only component of sciatica. Numbness tingling and joint pain can happen as well and you are not necessarily aware that it originates from your spine. I have also...
  2. You've been at this about a month longer than I have so I can't tell you it gets easier. I do understand however. People don't get it. Even the ones who try don't get it. The diet is a pain. And if you've got additional allergies on top of that your choices just get so restrictive it's not funny. I understand. I'd give anything for one single meal...
  3. How to you manage? I ate a handful of cherries this morning and I'm so sick now with nausea and diarehha. It's in so many fruits. What do you avoid? Do some things bother you more than others? It used to be it took more than a handful. Now it doesn't take much at all to make me sick. violet
  4. Irregular period seems to be a known side effect of the drug you're taking Open Original Shared Link Also the thyroid plays a part in regulating hormone levels in the body. So the more stable the thyroid levels are the more predictable the menstrual cycle is likely to be. violet
  5. Last Shopping trip was expensive. It was a major shop because I hadn't been in a while and the cost of food just keeps going up. Here are the highlights. Romaine Lettuce 3 bunches Radish 2 Cucumbers 1 Diakon baby carrots 4italian squash mushrooms sugar snap pea pods apricots strawberries lemons 5lb bag potato's onions avocados...
  6. I'm not sure this is in the right place. Moderators feel free to move it if it fits better somewhere else. I live in the Mountains of Southern California. We're entering the heart of fire season here. I heard sirens a few minutes ago and it prompted me to wonder what I'd do differently if I had to evacuate now as opposed to four years ago before my diagnosis...
  7. Has anyone tried Trader Joe's soups in a carton? A friend was kind enough to pick up a few things she thought were gluten free for me when she went down to the nearest Trader Joes yesterday. While there appears to be no gluten in the soups all the labels say they're made on equipment shared with wheat. This makes me extremely uncomfortable. I appreciate...
  8. Yes, unfortunately there is a connection between Celiac and allergies. They think it has to do with leaky gut syndrome. I've had a problem with eating certain fruits for a long time. I had no idea why. Apparently I've had allergies for a long time, but the gluten just kind of masked the worst of it. Now without gluten in my body all the allergies are...
  9. I made a lovely tomato sauce using a gluten free enchilada sauce as a base last night. I was so sick after. I'm still not feeling well. Everything else was gluten-free, and this wasn't a gluten reaction. Gluten has a much more sublte effect on me. The only thing that stood out on the ingredient list was Malic Acid. I looked it up and it naturally occures...
  10. On the rare occasions now when I suffer from indigestion or acid reflux, and it's really rare since going off gluten, I take apple cider pills. They work wonders. I doubt they would have stopped the full blown attacks I had before, but now they're all I need.
  11. Thanks. That probably makes a gas grill cheaper in the long run.
  12. I'm so damn tired of this stupid disease. I just want to be normal. I grilled last weekend. It made me sick. I grilled last night it made me sick. Now I know why. Between the ash getting on the meat and inhaling the smoke its bound to make a person sick. And of course I buy the cheap store brand match light charcoal. When I bought it the wood charcoal...
  13. The problem with Applegate is that I have to make a special trip to the Organic Store, and they will only stock the turkey breast because they've got such limited frig space. Wellshire isn't sold anywhere within an hours drive of me. And they're both more expensive. This is a mainstream supermarket brand that I can eat without paying twice as much and...
  14. My local Stater Bros store has started stocking Oscar Mayer's new "Naturals" hot dog. Not only is it gluten free, but it has no sodium nitrates in it. I'm terribly allergic to sodium nitrate. I CAN EAT A HOT DOG AGAIN!. Okay, granted not in a bun, but still . . . The Naturals line contains very few ingredients and no sodium nitrate. Best of all...
  15. I had a couple the other day. Gluten free AND sodium nitrate free. I was thrilled to find them. I had zero negative reaction to them. Love them!
  16. It's the shipping charge that stopped me dead in my tracks. There isn't much I can order there, but I'd love to have chow mein noodles again. $19.95 to ship less than $3 worth of food is insane. If they offered other, cheaper shipping options, particularly for things that don't need overnight delivery I'd be on it. Cornstarch is the first or second ingredient...
  17. It could possibly be the fat content in the yogurt. Things with high fat content affect me, so I have to be careful not to eat a lot at one sitting. It's gotten better over the months, but it can still be a problem. I've read that fat is something damaged small intestines have trouble absorbing, so it tends to pass through undigested, which makes stools...
  18. I know it's not funny, but I laughed when I saw the title of this thread. I've thought the same thing many many times; it would be so much easier to just give up eating, or eat rice and chicken for the rest of my life than worry about new allergies, or hidden ingredients, or poorly labels foods. The only words of wisdom I have are that it takes time...
  19. At some point or another we all crave "pop tarts". I too am having a hard time wrapping my mind around the forever part of this . . . whatever. I can't bring myself to call this a diet. A diet you can go on and off of and all that happens is you gain or loose a few pounds. This isn't about weight, it's about my very life. I know not sticking to...
  20. I appear to be allergic to many plants in the Asteraceae family. Unfortunately I'm finding out the hard way what plants that involves. I just discovered another one last night: Chicory. Does anyone else have an issue with Sunflowers, Ragweed, the Stevia plant, Chicory and who knows what other edibles foods or herbs that might be related. Trying to do...
  21. Not a problem After this weekend I think I may invest in nail polish though. My nails have gotten worse and worse the last year. I keep them relatively short for that reason now. Saturday I bent one nail back halfway through the nail. It hurt so bad and it will be weeks before it grows out. My nails used to be so much stronger than that. I'm thinking...
  22. Paranoid no. But if most people are like me, there are things they've just never considered. I do a lot of paper mache work. It didn't occur to me until four months after I'd be diagnosed to email ModPog and ask if their product was gluten free. Thankfully it is. But, it's basically glue which is notorious for containing gluten and I knew that, I just...
  23. THERE IS GLUTEN IN NAIL POLISH? I gotta stop reading here. This is just getting depressing. Granted I don't use nail polish, but I have this fantasy of one day finding the time to have my nails done. Another fantasy shot down in mid-flight . . .
  24. I have had those too in the past. They are better than they used to be, but yes I know exactly what you mean. My toe nails have always been like that, and I've had them on my thumbs as well in the past. And amazingly enough I do not have moons. I'm only 45. Surely too young for them to disappear? I have small ones on my thumbs and slight suggestions...
  25. My two cents. I believe stress has been the trigger all along for me. I believe the first symptoms of Celiac started about ten years ago when I started an incredibly stressful job. The symptoms got worse and better as the stress levels in my life changed over those ten years. Last year was extremely stressful, having to deal with a difficult family situation...
