  1. Sf, Would you recommend the second book or getting both books? best regards, lm
  2. Add my welcome to the list GFJo. May I call you GFJo? You are the best kind of newbe. One that has been lurking for almost a year, is already up on the plateau of the learning curve and so won't ask a lot of unresearched questions. BTW, don't believe anything you've heard about me. I really am a nice guy. best regards, lm
  3. Be wary of any rice dishes, such as Rice-A-Roni, or Pasta-Roni products. Many contain macaroni or similar wheat ingredients. And, be prepared to get a very limited meal. They do try to comply with the gluten-free diet. But, it mostly means you just won't get as much food. You will not get any alternative gluten-free products. As for the suggestions...
  4. Wakeboarder, Please keep looking. Don't limit your search for just any gluten-free soy sauce. Just my two cents worth but, ya gets what yous pays for. Here's an old recycled post from some forum member who thinks they are a soy sauce snob. best regards, lm ========================================================== As I'm always recommending...
  5. cq, Welcome to the forum, but I gotta be honest. I find it very disconcerting conversing with someone who I don't even know is a guy or a girl. Your introduction is a little sparse, IMHO. I've never fathomed why some people don't put anything in their profile. best regards, lm
  6. I just aquired my first one, a pecan pie variety. It was very good. Took me three tries to finish it though. They're pretty heavy duty. Concentrated goodness. I will definately get more. best regards, lm
  7. The only Pringles I've found that don't list wheat are the fat free ones. But I'm a little afraid of those as they contain Olestra. I have eaten them without incident. However, I don't think I need any potential diarreah sources as I seem to have that area covered pretty well. Frito Lay Staxx don't have wheat, although they are not near as good as Pringles...
  8. Thank you CM2008, My first goal on this forum is to be witty and entertaining at all times. Unfortunately, I'm not near as witty and entertaining as I think I am. For that I sincerely apologize. However, I will keep trying. Of course we made up. I forgave her, gave her another chance (basically, extended her probation, which has been ongoing now...
  9. Dear Tiff, I'm more than happy to be sharing yet another autoimmune related disorder with you. yours truly, lm
  10. It's not Linchen Sclerosis, it's Lichen Sclerosis. Pronounced Liken, or lyken. This is so wierd. I had a strange skin condition about 20 years ago. It was only one small, smooth circle about the diameter of a cigarette. It didn't itch or cause me any physical problem. But, it was on a certain private part of my anatomy that immediately resulted in me totally...
  11. Yes it certainly does. I had no idea there were such families. Sorry. best regards, lm
  12. Dear sandraprint, Firstly, since you have nothing in your profile and state nothing in your first and only post since joining this forum 5 months ago regarding specifics of your diagnosis vis a vis Celiac Disease, you force us to make certain assumptions. Secondly, of course you are angry at having Celiac Disease, who of us isn't? I'm sorry I feel compelled...
  13. Not only risky but needlessly foolish. We have innumerable mexican restaraunts in Texas. The majority by far use wheat flour as a thickener in all the sauces (except the green or chili verde sauce). That includes the chili con carne, sour cream chicken enchilada sauce, and even the queso (cheese) sauce. I always visit or call the restaraunt beforehand...
  14. Love the Limoncello! Don't know what kind I had, it's just a cool bottle now without a label. My stepdaughter brought it from Italy and gave it to me. There are maybe 4 or 5 brands available here in Dallas. I don't think I personally would worry too much about them containing gluten. I've drank quite a few varieties of distilled alcohol products before...
  15. That's wierd, 'cause I've never seen or even heard of Tostidos bite size gold tortilla chips. I eat Tostido's 100% white corn bite size chips just about every day. I eat a lot of nachos, and chips with avocado, or cheese & salsa. Also Fritos, Cheetos, Ruffles, and Lay's Kettle Cooked original extra crunchy potato chips (I'm currently on a big binge on...
  16. Thank you for posting this link to eating gluten-free. Somehow, I've never discovered it, and many of the recipies sound very interesting and unusual. I definately want to try some of the sauces. best regards, lm
  17. Most (if not all) of the gluten-free cereals here are from just under $4 or higher. I've paid as much as $7 for some Blue Roo Vita-Pro, which I didn't like. HV Crunchems were $3.79 last time I bought some, about six months ago. They are definately the best for their type that I've found, although they are still "light" compared to the real things IMO. I grew...
  18. Your whole family has Celiac Disease? Very unusual. How were you diagnosed? best regards, lm
  19. I'd say Van's waffles are as good as Eggo's. Which is to say if one likes Eggo's, which I never did. Light, crisp nothing. Are either a real waffle, of course not. Are they a fast, convenient breakfast or snack item, yes. There are no gluten-free items better than gluten ones. Sorry, I can't change reality, wish I could. best regards, lm
  20. Somebody, I won't mention names, needs a couple of gluten-free books. I would highly recommend any two gluten-free books. A basic indoctrination into the gluten-free lifestyle is a must. A search for "gluten-free books" will reveal a wealth of seasoned opinions. best regards, lm
  21. I use it in equal parts in all my gluten-free flour blends. I think it adds, rather than detracts from gluten-free baking mixes. IMHO. best regards, lm p.s., gluten-free sucks, but is a cross we have no choice but to bear.
  22. Welcome back UM, Sorry to hear you were so ill. I too have had a couple bouts with the devil recently, and so think I can sympathize a little. We are all fellow Celiac sufferrers afterall. best regards, lm
  23. Not only does one need to be vigilant re: refried beans, watch out for chili beans also. Bush's Best brand chili beans, for instance, contain wheat flour. Side story if your interested. We had a poker party at my parents house last night. My Dad had told me earlier on the phone, that he saved a can for me to read in case I couldn't eat the refried beans...
  24. I'll have to try that recipe. The last one I tried (using my normal flour blend) was totally inedible. best regards, lm
  25. Wow! You are to be congratulated. I can't even read a recipe that long, much less make it. best regards, lm
