ARCHIVED What To Do For A Headache Because Most Pills Have Gluten
larry mac replied to bon appetit's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Very interesting info gfp. I was in extreme pain following outpatient surgery in October. I was given hydrocodone upon leaving the hospital, but that night it was clearly not sufficient. So my surgeons nurse called me in some Talwin pain med, and some Phenergan (Promethazine) for potential nausia from the Talwin, so she said (she is a very kind lady and... -

What more is there to say? Go with your gut feeling. Stick with what works for you. best regards, lm -
I must object to mixing Jack with "Diet" Coke! best regards, lm

Sounds like the initial diagnosis of Celiac Sprue/Celiac Disease was not positively made. What were the tests used to make this determination? Celiac does not go away. If you had it then, you've got it now. best regards, lm

Excuse me, but this is the Celiac Disease Forum, not the Twilight Zone. best regards, lm -
I'm on a gluten free diet, not a fungus free diet. So for me, it is a gluten issue. best regards, lm

ARCHIVED What Types Of Reactions Do You Get When You're Glutened?
larry mac replied to blondebombshell's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I know this post reply is going to be unpopular, but I feel this forum is for celiac disease sufferers. If you are eating pizza on a regular basis, you obviously don't have a diagnosis, nor take this disease seriously. This is not a lol matter. Get real. Also, "glutened" generally refers to accidental ingestion of gluten while on a gluten free diet. Eating... -
ARCHIVED What To Do For A Headache Because Most Pills Have Gluten
larry mac replied to bon appetit's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
A statement such as "most (headache) pills have gluten" is IMHO very over generalized, and most likely over exagerated. I take generic acetaminophen and iboprofen and have not had a problem. best regards, lm -
San Antonio is about 270 miles from Irving. How is that appropriate? best regards, lm

Why are you replying to a post on gluten-free restaurants in Irving, Texas with info on a place in San Antonio. How is that appropriate? best regards, lm

ARCHIVED Wild Cherry M & M's
larry mac replied to silk's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I didn't have a problem with them and yes they were good. They're something of a novelty though, a little strong tasting to be your everyday M&Ms. The peanut ones are my fav. Speaking of candy. Couple weeks ago they had some limited edition Snickers at Walmart. I got one of each and now can't find them. One had peanut butter in it. And the other... -
ARCHIVED Wild Cherry M & M's
larry mac replied to silk's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm not questioning that you got sick, but rather the source of your illness. I don't hesitate to eat anything containing natural or artificial flavorings. Haven't had any problems so far. I'm looking at a bag of Wildly Cherry M&M's, and they list artificial flavorings. I am under the impression that artificial flavorings are made from petroleum distillates... -
ARCHIVED How Does It Happen ?
larry mac replied to mxkzach000's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Mine was "triggered" at 55. In my case, I suspect it started with a bad cold. My doctor prescribed augmenten, a combo antibiotic. It did a number on my stomach. Shortly after, I started having stomach problems. After stool testing, it was discovered that I had developed a case of C-Difficile, a bad bacterial overgrowth. The augmenten had killed off too... -

ARCHIVED Tough Choice's Setting Kitchen Rules!
larry mac replied to larry mac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You bring up a good point. I have no doubt that I could bake gluten cookies and muffins safely (not that I want to or would). But one, my wife and mother-in-law completely dropped the ball on their one previous attempt. Two, the magnatude of the amount of gluten products she was going to bake. Three, the timing, not enough time, she would have been in a... -
ARCHIVED Cost Of Baking
larry mac replied to bakingbarb's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
That's amazing. Every gluten-free cookbook I've ever seen says to only use soy flour in very small quantities, added to other gluten-free flours. You are an extremely daring, yet very lazy, rogue gluten-free baker, prone to confessions. I would go so far as to say you are a gluten-free rebel, that can't be bothered to follow the rules. BTW, apropos... -
Can't really empathize about the birthday cake, not my favorite. But, I have been making some killer gluten-free chocolate muffins lately. best regards, lm

ARCHIVED Tough Choice's Setting Kitchen Rules!

Just uneasy. But I really don't know for sure, as there's been no gluten baking for over a year. Yes, I agree. I'm a real dick sometimes. best regards, lm -
ARCHIVED Tough Choice's Setting Kitchen Rules!
larry mac replied to larry mac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Because I do all of the baking. She hasn't baked since we've been together, 13 years. Not all her fault, I like to do it, am much better at it, and am somewhat territorial about the kitchen. The woman won't measure, and refuses to use a timer! Of course I can't allow that kind of behavior in my kitchen. Truer words were never spoken (OK... -
ARCHIVED Tough Choice's Setting Kitchen Rules!
larry mac posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My Celiac is under control and I'm doing fine. I do almost all the grocery shopping and cooking. Besides my wife, one of our grown daughters is living with us. I am fairly comfortable allowing bread, bagels, crackers, stuff like ice cream sandwiches, etc. in the house. They have their own toaster and always use a paper plate. I don't want to be unreasonable... -

ARCHIVED Whole Foods - Warning Mislabeled Product
larry mac replied to Eric-C's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Good lesson for all of us. We always have to be suspicious of stuffings. Bread crumbs are typically mixed with Crab. They are used as a binder and extender. Just like bread crumbs and eggs are added to meat loaf. best regards, lm -
ARCHIVED Irish Soda Bread Disaster
larry mac replied to jenrn's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
gluten-free baking can be very tricky. It's important to examine the ingredients of any "all purpose baking mix" you buy. "All purpose" usually means it already has the leavening agent in it, just like regular wheat flour all purpose mixes do. You do not add any more baking powder or baking soda if it's already in it. Too much leavening agent and a too... -

ARCHIVED Do I Have To Replace All My Pans?
larry mac replied to mommytoE&E's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I didn't get rid of any pots or pans. I do like to keep a separate pan to cook gluten pasta for my wife (very rarely do I do this). Also, I have my own convection toaster oven that is only for gluten-free use. My wife has a pop-up toaster for her gluten use. I do all of the grocery shopping and cooking so I have almost total control of my kitchen. I personnaly...
