  1. This is not enough, by itself, to support a conclusion that you are reacting to gluten. Practically everyone has either celiac or gluten sensitivity genes, but this doesn't automatically make them celiac or gluten sensitive. I am curious why you went with the gene testing rather than the antibody testing which would show if you were reacting to gluten...
  2. You know what they say, "Time flies when you're having rum."
  3. The problem is that there are different schools of thought among doctors. It sounds like you happened across one of the reactionary ones that don't know what they are talking about. Would he counsel continuing smoking, even if it made a patient feel bad, because there was no observed lung cancer ... yet? Here is a more enlightened view, at least IMHO...
  4. Yes, withdrawal is a definite possibility: Open Original Shared Link
  5. With distilled alcohol, you have to make sure that there isn't some flavoring or coloring added after the distillation process that might contain gluten. We are having a discussion about scotch in another thread as a matter of fact. The legal definition of scotch allows the addition of caramel coloring. I don't know that this has to be disclosed. ...
  6. Yeah, he didn't really answer your question, did he?
  7. Try adding up the amount of protein you get on your regular diet. I would be surprised if you don't get enough. Our society has this obsession about protein. The average consumption is 110 grams a day. The RDAs are around half that. The RDAs were set, for "safety," about three times above what human studies indicated was necessary (15 grams for a woman...
  8. Ah, a major problem after two weeks and someone else whose problems resolve in week four ... the dreaded week 3 curse. That's what I call it anyway. I had a major problem at that point and could never figure out what triggered it. It was like my body decided to purge itself of all the accumulated gluten stuck in my gut or something. My usual symptom is...
  9. Maybe I'll have to go buy bottles of both Macallan and Glenlivet Nadurra ... and taste test.
  10. I guess I have a problem with your mention of "only intolerance." Are you willing to bet that lasting damage will NOT be done? Isn't prevention better than cure? A couple articles for you: https://www.celiac.com/articles/1101/1/Glut...ewey/Page1.html Open Original Shared Link If you are bound and determined to have a positive biopsy before changing...
  11. Rest assured, whatever you are worried about when your kids are little turns out not to be what the problems are when they actually DO go off to college There is growing awareness of celiac. Even now, college students can go to the food service and work with them to get acceptable food. The latter have been dealing with allergies, diabetes, etc....
  12. With Crohn's, at least some doctors recommend a yeast-free diet. I have seen at least one study of Crohn's patients doing better when they avoid yeast. Many Crohn's patients have antibodies to dietary yeast. Of course, it could be some other ingredient in these gluten-free products that bother you. If you checked the ingredients list you may be able...
  13. I forgot to mention that withdrawal from gluten is a possibility. Open Original Shared Link I just noticed that this is a teenagers only section. Oops, sorry about that
  14. Strange. I eat Nutty Flax and don't have a problem. I guess I found it and tried it after my last post here some months ago and had forgotten this discussion. It makes me wonder if people are reacting to what they put ON the Nutty Flax?
  15. I follow an essentially vegan diet (don't avoid honey and don't avoid use of animal products for nondietary purposes, so I've learned not to call myself that). I'm also intolerant of soy and yeast. I have no problems at all eating a variety of meals at home. Eating out is more of a challenge -- you find this list of places you can go that have things or...
  16. Do you really need to see that damage has been done to change your diet? Doesn't it make more sense to try to prevent the damage? It is like someone not willing to stop smoking until lung cancer is diagnosed or stop drinking until there is cirrhosis. You have the antibodies and you have a noticeable reaction to gluten, plus a family history of the disease...
  17. You can read the ingredients here: Open Original Shared Link Wow, I see they make a cranberry bread mix now. I love cranberries.
  18. Annoying that Glenfiddich didn't respond. Perhaps I will write them myself. Let me know what Glenlivet says. I can live with that. I can't say I've ever had Macallan. Maybe I'll buy that one, at least until I know something more definite about the others.
  19. Genetic testing, which Enterolab does do BTW, will not rule celiac in or out. You can have celiac without "celiac genes." You can have a just as serious gluten intolerance without specific genes or doctor-diagnosed or -diagnosible celiac. Your children may have gluten and/or casein issues. You could test them with Enterolab. I wouldn't go with the...
  20. People generally overestimate the need for protein and underestimate the amount and quality of protein in plant products. I'm vegan with multiple food sensitivities, but I don't find it necessary to use a supplement for protein or add in animal products. (Well I did eat fish on a river cruise last summer; that was a question of getting enough calories....
  21. My understanding has always been that blended scotches are the ones with the additive. Famous Grouse is blended; Macallan is not. If you read their description, it is that they add the stuff to get a uniform color when they are blending. With single malt, you get what you get. There are plenty of single malts to choose from. You can choose to investigate...
  22. There is one type of Dagoba that doesn't contain soy lecithin. There are some other dark chocolate bars in the same category too. For snacks (other than dark chocolate ) I like popcorn, corn thins spread with hummus or a nut butter, or fruit. If I'm really hungry, I will nuke a potato & top it with refried beans and/or salsa. Then there is that...
  23. If you are intolerant to casein, any little amount can cause the symptoms you describe. So that is the first thing to fix. Second, you may have another intolerance operating that is preventing your recovery. Have you added more soy to your diet to replace the dairy? Soy is a common third problem. I know someone who continued to have symptoms despite...
  24. Just think of it as a rite of initiation. Now you are one of us. You may want to go to that thread where people list wretched gluten-free products. I think the worst is Holgrain rice crackers. At least the animals ate the EnerG bread when I put it out. The crackers (which have the consistency and taste of styrofoam) just sat there for weeks. ...
