  1. I did notice an improvement once I switched from using hair styling products that contained wheat. But then, these things are designed to act like glue. Did I carefully scrub it all off of my fingers, including under the nails? (If gluten sticks in colanders and the like, why wouldn't it cling around one's nails?) How often did I touch my hair and NOT...
  2. Are you referring to Teeccino? They claim to be gluten-free and even have a lab result. The lab said that boiling water isn't sufficient to get the gluten protein out of the barley. I've run across people still afraid to try the product, but no one who has reacted to it. Here is the link: Open Original Shared Link Frankly, I would be more afraid...
  3. I'm glad your experience has been so positive. I was surprised when Enterolab told me I was soy intolerant. Then I went off it and found things improving I hadn't expected. For instance, my complexion is finally clear. Just to think of all the years of this and that skin care product not working and it was something I was eating
  4. I personally like the side effect mentioned in "those" commercials of contacting your doctor if you have a sudden loss of vision. Someone wouldn't know that? I'm suddenly blind, but gee now I'm able to, you know, so what should I do? Difficult decision taweavmo3, here is a link about calcium if you ever find the need for ammunition: Open Original...
  5. If your blood test for celiac was done after you had been gluten-free, it would be invalid. There are also a signficant number of false negatives. Allergy testing doesn't find food intolerances. Correct me if I'm wrong, folks, but I think we are talking about difference immune reactions, immediate (IgE) versus delayed onset (IgA). IBS isn't a...
  6. The link actually has a copy of the test result showing no detectible gluten. The allergy lab says that the gluten doesn't come out of barley using boiling water; alcohol would be needed (which they don't do during processing). So I don't know if it is any more dangerous than any product that doesn't contain gluteny ingredients, but hasn't been tested....
  7. Yes, even if one's gastro symptoms aren't celiac, regular problems are a sign that something is off. People want some pill or other to mask the symptoms, rather than to figure out and address what might be causing the symptoms. Ever tried talking to someone about diet, or at least the possible advisability of restricting something they like to eat? It...
  8. Always need friends. Particularly ones with whom I can discuss brain fog, neuro disorders, and the state of my gas and poo production I don't know what I would do without this list. Let us know what you find out about Teeccino!
  9. Yeah, I'm glad it's not just me that hates those commercials. The "eat dairy and lose weight" thing is annoying. I think they got sued about that one. The evidence isn't there or is based on some squirrelly study or other. For instance, the one about kids who have milk end up skinnier -- the study involved giving two groups of kids different beverages...
  10. Well, that is silly. Celiacs have BMIs all over. The idea that all are super underweight is not true. I would question going to a doctor that doesn't test for something like celiac that a patient "maybe" has because of an assumption that isn't true. She could have done some research. She also should have given you some guidance as to common trigger...
  11. I guess there is a possibility of intolerance to about anything. I haven't heard of arrowroot difficulty, per se. I use it a lot as a thickening agent. In fact, I used it more often that wheat flour for that purpose, even before I found out about my gluten problem. It seems to work quite well for firming up sauces. I have heard folks before talk about...
  12. Yes, it sounds like an intolerance to me. When I was younger I could eat eggs without problems. Then slowly, I developed more and more problems to them. First it was with eggs by themselves, then also with dishes with appreciable egg in them. Now I seem to react to every bit of egg. The only time I had egg for 7 years was in baked products, and this...
  13. Teeccino claims to have no detectible gluten in it, given the processing: Open Original Shared Link You might search and see if anyone has reported symptoms from having this product. Do you dislike herbal teas? There are lots of different flavors. Just make sure that what you select doesn't contain gluten (it is those pesky "flavors" that do you...
  14. Oh yes, I react very strongly. I was listening to an online interview of an herbalist the other day. He mentioned three herbs that help with gas: camomile, lemon balm, and peppermint. Can't hurt to make yourself some tea with one of these things and see how you feel. He said the herb with an even stronger effect is cranesbill. But he said one should...
  15. I guess my response was guided by the fact that I don't have a "celiac gene" but I still have symptoms, positive results for all of Enterolabs' fecal tests (for everything ), and a positive result from the diet. It is hard to tell about whether different nationalities have more celiacs because the rate of testing and the awareness of the doctors seems...
  16. As already pointed out, the gene test won't tell you if you have celiac. Most people with the "celiac genes" don't have celiac. The important thing is that your dietary response already pretty much has demonstrated gluten intolerance. My motto is if something hurts, don't do it. Nobody NEEDS gluten for health. Why didn't you order the Enterolab tests...
  17. Getting a good figure on gluten intolerance is difficult. I've seen numbers from 10 to 35%, but folks don't say what this is based on. The estimated occurrence is 1 in 100 for celiac (really, a subset of gluten intolerance). But if this figure is accurate, then 97% of celiac in the US is undiagnosed. A study showed that it takes, on average, 11 years...
  18. My understanding is that some fish sauce is OK, and some has gluten.
  19. DQ 2 and DQ 8 are the "celiac genes." Everything else is considered by Enterolab to be a gluten sensitivity gene except for DQ 4, which is largely found in Asian populations I believe. The gluten sensitivity gene I've seen linked to neurological problems is DQ 1. Of course, such problems can come from the celiac genes as well. I don't know anything...
  20. I had an additional thought after posting, but I see that Jo Ann beat me to it. It could be another food intolerance. It seems like they can come to the fore after being gluten-free for awhile. You could try a food/symptom diary and see if you notice any pattern.
  21. Some people get relief from balance disorders with ginger and/or gingko. I know I recovered from my problem (mal de debarquement syndrome) with gingko. I think ginger works more with the disorders that are accompanied with nausea. Gingko improves blood flow through the capillaries, and thus the inner ear. Of course, dizziness can come from many different...
  22. It might mean you are getting gluten or it might mean that you haven't been gluten-free long enough for the antibody levels to drop. Without an earlier test you can't tell. Enterolab should have included an explanation of the genetic results. You have one "celiac gene" and one "gluten sensitivity" gene. You can't infer anything just from the genes,...
  23. Are you dairy free? If not, you might try that. My cramps basically went away when I dropped the dairy some years ago. My daughter finds that the more dairy she has during a month, the worse her period. If she has no dairy, she doesn't feel bad at all. Also, a lower fat diet can reduce your estrogen level and thus may help. Here is an article which...
  24. I agree this is a pretty lousy situation. I also think you should stick up for yourself now. If you don't, she will learn she can push you around on this or other issues. So it isn't just a question of this one party, but your entire future with her as your MIL. Here is a card in Portuguese explaining the gluten free diet: Open Original Shared...
