  1. I was in a Swiss pharmacy pre-diagnosis this year trying to find something to help my stomach (not knowing that I should have laid off the schnitzel and noodles ) and everyone spoke English and was very knowledgeable about the types of medicines. They seem to use a lot of natural meds, so don't be surprised if they give you something that is herbal instead...
  2. Unlike everyone here, I got a very specific response. However, I also asked a very specific question about a very specific product (my beloved Hazelnut Coffee pods). Here is what they wrote me: Dear me, Thanks for contacting Target with your comments via our Archer Farms "Tell Us" page. Good News! There are no gluten ingredients in the Archer Farms...
  3. I got a response. YAY!!! Dear me, Thanks for contacting Target with your comments via our Archer Farms "Tell Us" page. Good News! There are no gluten ingredients in the Archer Farms Hazelnut Coffee Pods or in the facility where the product is made. Eat Well. Pay Less
  4. Here are knowns safe foods: McDonalds-- avoid Burger King-- some places have safe fries, but I avoid Arbys-- milk shakes Wendys- baked potatoes and all toppings bunless burgers without condiments chili frosties Not a lot of choices- :-(
  5. The world's best advice for dealing with this!! I had to put on 10 dinners this summer, all of which were gluten filled and that I got to cook (part of my job which I agreed to before my dx). The only thing which kept me sane was making a desert that I could eat (preferably one that is better tasting than the gluten one ). There is nothing worse than smelling...
  6. Hello, I hear you on how hard it is! My coworkers had scones today in the office . I am not sure about the tounge infection, but I know the Candida is a yeast infection that is associated with gluten. Others on the board can give much better information about this. As far as shampoo and lotions, they are fine to use as long as you don't get...
  7. Hello, I also suffer with the constipation end of the spectrum, and it does make it slightly harder to tell if I have been glutenated. My first symptom is a head rush/fuzzy feeling. I immediately drink caffeine (because it is a laxative and will speed everything through you AND you can concentrate better or I take a charcoal tablet. For the next week or...
  8. I normally use finely crushed, stale tortilla chips or crushed stale pretzels. It makes a great breading that is different than normal fried chicken, but in my opinion, better. I made mine by soaking chicken strips in eggs and bbq sauce, then tossing them in a bag with paprika, ground pepper, and crushed chips. I spray them with olive oil and bake. Everyone...
  9. Perfect advice!! It is so hard to own a home food business, and unless your house is 100% gluten free (down to the treats that your kid's friends bring into the house), you will have to disclose the cross-contamination. It will be an expensive investment, but if you live in a populated place and have the resources, please do it!
  10. You can make the worlds best turkey burgers with them!! Combine ground turkey, oregano, cumin, and red pepper. Make into patties and grill. Take a corn tortilla and place the burger, avocado slices, drizzle with lime juice, and then the salsa. Cover with cheese and another corn tortilla. YMM!
  11. It depends on how old a child is, what kind of services/accommodations s/he needs, and where your school district is. I go to school at a residential college where I am required to live in a dorm where I am not allowed to have toasters/george formans in my room, where I have to share a bathroom, and where I have to have a meal plan. I get a 504 so that the...
  12. I hear you-- I am always on the go and there are some days that that it is a luxury just to be able to go to the bathroom. I travel a lot now, and as soon as I am done college I will be traveling a lot more. It is just the nature of my occupation. I have learned that I don't have to slow down at all, I just need to smarten up. But, you need to eat otherwise...
  13. Hi-- It actually is easy to eat completely free shopping at a normal grocery store, and more and more places are catering to the gluten free community (at Starbucks they had 3 different brands and several flavors of gluten free granola bars!!!). Kraft will disclose any gluten, as will most companies. Here is my shopping list: EnviroKidz cereal or granola...
  14. I still can't find an answer, so I stopped drinking it for awhile and then started this week and got sick (but I am not sure if it is the coffee, a glutening earlier this week, or just being sick. Does anyone know?
  15. Eat lots of fruits and veggies, drink lots of water, and cut out dairy. It should work wonders. What I do is drink 24 oz of water and 10 oz of coffee and eat a banana and a peach for breakfast, grapefruit for a snack, brown rice and beans and a salad with 24 oz of water for lunch, carrots and peanut butter for lunch, and steamed veggies (broccoli, green beans...
  16. Yep... both of them contain gluten. However, Lara bars are safe and are relatively high fiber and protein. As far as high fiber/high protein snacks, when you look at the calorie to fiber ratio, you will always get more bang for your buck to eat fresh fruits and veggies. Apples/Carrots with peanut butter, raisins, almonds, salads, trail mix (dried cherries...
  17. For broth-- some swanson is fine, some isn't (example Swanson organic beef is gluten-free, the organic chicken isn't, but one kind of the chicken is). I normally use Wegman's brand (mid-atlantic states) or Knoxx bullion (they disclose all gluten). With an allergy statement, I will consume products with modified foods starch or flavorings, without it,...
  18. Thanks!
  19. Welcome to the board-- The best way to explain why gluten is affecting you so much more now is to think about alcohol. If you go out drinking every night for a year, you will get used to it, even though it is bad for your body and your body will be showing symptoms of being sick. When you stop drinking, your liver heals and your body goes through detox...
  20. GRRRRRRRRRRRR!!! This is the email I sent: To: Wawa Customer Relations Subject: Customer Relations:Other Hello, I was wondering what ingredients were in your iced coffee? Specifically, is there any gluten (wheat, barley, rye, or oats and their by products)? I asked at the store and all that they could tell me was that there were milk and sugar...
  21. Hello, First of all, it sounds like you are being wonderful and doing everything right; however, your son is 11. I remember when I was 11 I would do everything in my power to try to prove I was in control of my life and that I was not a little kid. Having worked with 11 year olds at a camp for years, I know I was not the only one. If I was on a gluten...
  22. Hi! That is the best way to describe my GI issues, and that pattern is common among those with gluten issues. One of the reasons why all of your tests could come back negative, but you still have symptoms is non-Celiac gluten intolerance, which just means that you don't have the gene which causes damage to your villi in your small intestine when you ingest...
  23. I have gone through this too. In the course of a week I can go up or down 3 pants sizes. I find that with time the swelling goes down and by eating super healthy (lots of fruits and veggies) my belly is actually flat for once. But, it does take time and anytime I have gluten I get the big belly for awhile. My key is dance pants and empire tops-- they stretch...
  24. One of the coolest parties my friend had was a "mani/pedi Spa Retreat". They hired a local manicurist who did our nails while we lounged by their pool and ate "spa food". The favors were our flip flops, nail polish, and and hand creme. At the time this was the most awesome party ever, and looking back, it really wasn't that expensive for my friend's parents...
  25. Less than 1 means no antibodies, which means either: 1) you aren't celiac and your problems have nothing to do with gluten, 2) your that special kind of celiac that doesn't produce antibodies, 3) you are gluten intolerant, so you don't produce antibodies, 4) they messed up the test, or 5) you weren't eating enough gluten to produce antibodies. There are no...
