That sound so good. Thanks for posting it!

Does anyone know of a gluten-free restaurant close by? It needs to be something quick. I actually am one of the grand prize winners in the JK Rowling Open Book Tour and will be meeting her on October 19th! I am so excited but don't want to ruin the evening taking any chances with dinner. I work on the Upper East Side not too far from Lumi but wasn't sure if that would be a quick meal.

Puff Pancake
Ingredients
1/2 cup flour (gluten free obviously. I use Gluten Free Pantry's Beth's All Purpose Flour)
1/2 cup milk
2 eggs
dash of salt (you must add this!)
4 tablespoons butter (unsalted is best but you can use salted)
1. Preheat oven to 450. As soon as you start the preheat, put a pan in the oven to warm.
2. Whisk the flour, milk, eggs and salt together all at once. (Don't separate the wet and dry ingredients.)
3. When the oven is ready, take the pan out and put the butter in it to melt.
4. Give the batter another whisk and pour the batter into the pan.
5. Put it back in the oven for approximately 15 minutes (until golden brown on top.)
It's so good you will want to eat the whole pancake, but it can serve two.

Anyone doing something to mark the month?
-
there was a post on list serv and others were trying to get her bracelets
i called her and she did not return my call...and she always has in the past.
last time i spoke to her she was dealing with a sick little boy and not sure if Angie was doing ok health wise either...
I think she might be taking a break..
I'd love to know if anyone has talked to her lately.
She's such a sweet lady, just hope all is well.
I've purchased alot of her jewlery and it's wonderful.
Judy in Philly
That's really sad. I hope Angie and her little guy are doing ok.
Thanks to all for the suggestions!

Their menu looks awesome! And there's one right by me. Thanks for posting this. Can't wait to try it.

Those are just like them! Thanks. Have you ever dealt with that company?

Does anyone know where to get them anymore? It seems that Angelic Grooves is no longer around. With Celiac Awareness Month being in October I was really hoping to have one for then.
-
Could you let us know what you ate? I was going to order from them tomorrow.
Hope you are feeling better.

Hi everyone,
New to this. I don't have any children yet, but we've decided now is the time to try. The amount of questions I have is overwhelming - too many to even get straight in my own head. But for now:
1. How important is it that your ob/gyn is knowledgable about celiacs?
2. For those of you on Long Island, would you consider Winthrop Hospital a safe (celiac wise) place to have a baby? I know they have a gluten free support group so I am just wondering about my chances of getting glutened while there.
3. Are there any celiac/pregnancy books out there?
Thanks for all of your help.

Here's the reply from Whole Foods:
Hello Beth,
I have contacted Genji Sushi who staffs and makes the in store sushi. They have let me know that the Salmon Avocado Roll is gluten free. The wasabi and the ginger are also gluten free.
However, their soy sauce does contain wheat which has gluten. The soy sauce is packaged separately and as long as you refrain from the packages of soy sauce you can enjoy the roll gluten free.
Furthermore, if you are interested in a list of which sushi is gluten free and which is not please let us know and Genji told me they can provide a list to pass along to you.
They did let me know that the California Roll which uses imitation crab meat contains wheat. Anything with barbequed eel contains wheat b/c they use soy sauce in the preparation. And the dumplings contain wheat.
Please let me know if you need further assistance.
Thanks,
Jennifer

That's a great idea! I want them too. I haven't seen them but if you do find them could you let me know?

I emailed Whole Foods Headquarters to see if that roll, the wasabi and the ginger are gluten free. I'll post their reply once I get it.
-
I don't think it's the wasabi because I use it every time I have their sushi. Maybe they do something to the salmon? I've had most of the other rolls but not that one.

I got this response from Neutrogena about some new products so I thought I would share.
Dear Beth:
Thank you for contacting Neutrogena

I am so sorry. I hate bugs too. They freak me out, which is why I love my exterminator. Actually - it's pretty funny - he also hates bugs. Guess he enjoys getting rid of them. I have a bunch of cats and our exterminator uses a type of chemical that is not harmful to cats, children or pregnant women. I don't know what it is but it works and none of my cats have ever gotten sick from it. You might want to call a few bug companys and see if they offer the same thing.
Spider bites definitely leave two small puncture wounds. I know, I got bit in the face by one. Sometimes the marks are extremely tiny though.
Good luck with the bugs. I've got the creepy crawlies just thinking about it.

Ok - I just read something that said that if the milk isn't homogenized it can get fat on the top. From the Horizon Organic faq section: We homogenize our milk so that the butterfat, or cream, does not rest at the top of the milk. Homogenization provides smooth, drinkable milk, and the process also allows us to offer you a variety of choices of fat levels.
tcat - maybe that's what we are seeing? does your milk smell bad too or just the streaks on top? this is driving me crazy.
-
I would check with your local Whole Foods and ask them about the ingredients in their sushi. Maybe they are prepared differently in different stores? Or maybe something wasn't right with the salmon? How long have you been gluten free? I know that all types of things bothered me when I first went gluten free - dairy, soy, nuts.
-
I eat it all the time and never have a problem. I asked the guy who makes the sushi and he said that the rice is not cooked in broth - so no worries there. I also asked him about the crab california rolls and the crab is fresh - not packaged. I do know that the soy sauce they include has gluten in it, but you used your own. As far as I know the soy sauce is only in the packet and not in the sushi itself. The label is a little confusing. Maybe you have an intolerance to something else in there?

I've been using Whole Foods 365 Organic 2% milk and find that it seems to go bad rather quickly. Does organic milk have a short shelf life - under a week? Or maybe it's just that brand? It happens every time. I don't really notice an off smell, but when poured into my coffee the milk leaves little white streaks (for want of a better description) on top of the coffee. Should organic milk be stored at a cooler temperature than regular milk? Any information you have would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

I really like Beth's All-Purpose Baking Flour by Gluten-Free Pantry. Their description is - Description: Use the Gluten-Free Pantry All Purpose Baking Flour blend in all gluten free recipes. To convert any recipe, simply use a cup of all purpose gluten free baking flour to replace 1 cup of regular flour.

Ok. This is probably the stupidest question ever, but could someone better explain spamming? I just read the forum guidelines and I'm not sure I get it. If someone posts a question about a product and I answer it and then a few weeks later someone posts a similar question and I answer that with the same response is that spamming?
Thanks.

Juliet,
Thanks for sharing your recipes. I could literally eat puff pancake every day, but haven't tried experimenting with them. Can't wait to try yours.
