  1. Before going gluten-free I experienced the same things. I literally would be ready to jump out of my seat after the door closed to ask the flight attendant to let me off (My husband wouldn't let me though). I found that as soon as I got to my seat, I'd have to sit down with my IPod and close my eyes and block out what was going on around me. Once we got in...
  2. I want to be able to make sure everything is okay but I also can't risk putting a substance in my body that I may react to. I've been so restrictive during this pregancy I've only ate out twice in six months. One time I got glutened and couldn't walk for two days and the second time I went to the only restaurant I trust to make a truly gluten-free meal (the...
  3. Does any one have experience with the glucose testing they do during pregnancy? I'm not sure I should do the test as I've read that most of the solution they have you drink is corn syrup, is this right? I react to corn pretty badly - headache etc. Also, is that solution gluten-free? I have an appt. tomorrow and will ask my doc. about it but figured I'd see...
  4. carpal tunnel syndrome is common in pregnancy. have you started sleeping solely on your side? i'm finding that sleeping on my sides is killing me with my circulation in my arms. before i was dx'ed with celiac though i was told i had peripheral neuropathy in my arms and hands. i'm 24 weeks and even though the PN had gone away for some time it's starting to...
  5. I think it's a local chain but the Hiller's Supermarket in Northville has a wonderful gluten-free section. The last time I went up to visit my sister I wanted to move there just because the gluten-free selection that was a walk away was so massive! There is also a bakery in Northville that has gluten-free treats - Wild Flours or something. Haven't tried it...
  6. I'm glad you posted this as I am pregnant with my first and both my husband and I are gluten-free. We've decided to maintain the gluten-free status of the household although that decision did not come easily or without guilt. We will allow him to get gluten outside of the house and will purposedly put him in daycare a few days a week so he gets exposure...
  7. After my diagnosis my husband went and got tested because (1) we did genetic testing because we were trying to have a baby at the time and wanted to know the odds of the baby having double genes and (2) he just thought he was lactose intolerant this whole time. Low and behold... He is getting frustrated now as he gets more into the diet because he is...
  8. Hi and Congrats! You must be so excited. I'm 23 weeks and lived on pickles and potato chips the first 8 weeks of being pregnant (i'm also gluten-free, DF & SF) Chicken noodle soup helped (minus the chicken - I just really wanted the broth!). I think it was anything salty that helped alleviate some of the nausea and also naps. Lots of fresh fruit and veggies...
  9. i'm pretty sensitive and as long as it's just made in the same facility, and not the same equipment, i'm generally okay. i've never gotten sick from TJ's products that are made in the same facility. They have gluten-free ginger snaps that are good, dark chocolate covered raisins, soup bowls, popcorn (in a black bag) and lot's of other goodies. I buy most...
  10. i have trouble taking vitamins as well. i went to a nutritionist who put me on Twin Labs multi vitamin and a folic acid supplement. I take at least 800 mg. of folic acid a day. The Twin Labs brand are supposed to be very allergy friendly and easier to absorb/digest. So far, they are the only ones I can handle. Good luck!
  11. Thanks, it looks like I will have to go with my own mix. Pamela's and the new Whole Foods mix both have casein in them and I can't eat dairy right now. I'm glad I didn't go with the Bob's Red Mill Mix now that I got home and read that it's nasty Thanks Fiddle Faddle!
  12. Have you been tested for celiac since your daughters dx? I suggest you get yourself tested with the bloodwork immediatly if you haven't. Don't go gluten-free if you don't have to. Also, by going gluten-free before any testing you will raise the risk of false negative blood tests (you have to be consuming gluten to have the antibodies present). If you OB...
  13. I think I'm going to make pancakes xmas morning. I haven't made pancakes yet, I was thinking of looking for a mix at the store but in case there isn't one available, does any one have a great recipe for pancakes that are gluten-free and Dairy Free (or the recipe can be made with almond/rice milk)? I saw the pumpkin ones but I'm thinking I just want a good...
  14. i like sausage patties and a piece of fruit (I like the wellshire farms sausage patties that are frozen and pre-cooked - one minute in the microwave), smoothie using frozen fruit, gluten-free granola and fruit. Sometimes I'll eat a leftover hamburger patty or half of a steak but that is rare. Some weeks I'll precook a whole package of bacon in the oven and...
  15. thanks for the replies. i've been slacking on the support group front the past few months. I was a regular at the Palatine WF meetings and then life got busy. Maybe I'll try going back to them. The last time I was there there was one little boy at the meeting with his mom and several people from the local CSA chapter attend those meetings as well. amy
  16. Is there any one on here who lives in the Arlington Heights, IL area who goes to a great pediatrician? I'm expecting my first baby in the spring and need to start compiling a list of practices to look into, a plus would be that they have experience with celiac disease. both my husband and i are celiacs with two genes each so we know the baby will have genetic...
  17. don't worry. as much as i wish it would have happened right away it took us a year almost to the day to get pregnant. i find out tuesday if it's a boy or girl are you using anything like the fertility awareness method or a fertility monitor? if you do an internet search for either one of those you should gets links to lots of good information. we started...
  18. thanks April. I feel better. My doc. called back and said if the pain were to happen again go to the ER otherwise follow up with my regular doctor if it doesn't go away. Although somewhat stiff I thankfully haven't not had the intense pain again since the other morning. The bizarre thing is that morning I ate a smoothie and sausage patty for bfast and then...
  19. I went into the kitchen to make lunch and before I could even get anything out I had this sudden, super sharp, stabbing pain in my right shoulder blade area. I mean, it hurt and it still is a little tender. I know that area for pain is typically associated with the gall bladder but when I was being dx'ed with celiac they did an ultrasound and nuclear scan...
  20. sorry anna i'm keeping my fingers crossed for you that you'll start the new year off with a great surprise!
  21. I've been reading that you should avoid peanuts during pregnancy to help prevent a peanut allergy in a child esp. if the mom has food allergies. I don't have a nut allergy, and no one in my family does either but of course there is the celiac, soy and casein allergies. I have a recipe for peanut butter chocolate balls that I've been craving and can't decide...
  22. i have to second the 100% pure cocoa butter. i recently found it at my HFS to rub on my expanding pregnant belly but the most benefit i've seen so far is how soft my hands are. it comes in a round tub and is hard so i warm it in the microwave to get a oil (butter) and it's very smooth and not greasy at all!
  23. congratulations on your pregnancy! i was dx'ed in February after two miscarriages, and a host of other medical problems so this pregnancy is a blessing! i'm currently 18 weeks. first piece of advice: DON'T CHEAT!!! My cravings have been pretty intense for things like pizza and oatmeal cream pies (don't ask ) but I refuse to give in. Things like pizza...
  24. Last year I cooked the bag of giblets in the turkey and thought that would be my one t-day boo boo. This year i was in a rush to make the pumpkin pie. usually i make a crustless pie but decided to go with the back of the can recipe and use a crust. i whip it together wednesday night and about 11:30 get the munchies and decide to try a slice. thank god...
  25. i'd like to make this crust for the pumpkin pie also. do you bake it first and then let it cool and fill and bake again or make crust, fill and bake?
