  1. My husband has SEVERE RLS and it is also in his arms, just as bad. He has not been tested for celiac, but I suspect he has it. His sleep doctor just did a test for low ferritin (iron stores) levels. I guess that sometimes RLS is associated with low iron levels. DH got the results back and he has incredibly low ferritin levels. Low iron levels, as you...
  2. Thanks for the replies. You're right, he's definitely not a "silent" celiac or whatever he has. I think he definitely needs to be tested. He's had so many problems the last year. Now he's on antidepressents (which he wants to get off of) due to the "brain fog" and being tired (and tons of stress at his old job), and a pretty high dose of Requip (for RLS...
  3. I'm concerned about DH having celiac. For years and years he has had very very elevated tranaminaise enzymes in his liver. He's had every test done in the book on his liver and no one can find anything wrong with him. The only thing one doctor found was that the enzymes were related to a very high level of "autoimmune antibodies" or something like that...
  4. A friend of mine had a second opinion on a biopsy. She went to a celiac specialist in Chicago. She said that the doctor looked at her biopsy and could immediately tell that they cut it the wrong way. Apparently with a celiac biopsy, it has to be cut a certain way when they take it. The new doctor said that because they cut it the wrong way, they cut off...
  5. Do you normally have anaphylaxis when eating gluten? Did you have to have an EpiPen shot? That sounds really serious!!! I've never had problems w/glucola -- and I've had the test many many times. Wow -- drinking that stuff is bad enough, let alone your reaction!! I hope you're feeling better.
  6. I tested negative w/both blood tests and biopsy. But I'm pretty convinced I have celiac. See my signature below -- strong family history, and I have hashimotos thyroiditis and just diagnosed w/type 1 diabetes. And ALL the symptoms of celiac. When my symptoms got worse last year, my doctor did not want to do another biopsy. So I decided to go gluten...
  7. This is a really interesting thread. I wonder about celiac's "loud" voice. I went gluten free at the end of March 2007. In June, I was diagnosed w/autoimmune diabetes. I'm in a reasearch study for people who are high risk for diabetes and my blood sugar numbers have been fine for the last 2.5 years. (I am tested every six months with a 2 hour oral glucose...
  8. We picked tons of peaches last year and froze them. Look at Open Original Shared Link for directions to freeze and can just about anything. You have to coat the peaches in a little sugar and fruit fresh to keep them from browning -- the website has great directions. For a while during the winter we would take a bag of the frozen peaches, mix up some cornstarch...
  9. My friend gave me this cookbook -- The Gluten Free Kitchen by Roben Ryberg. It so great! Most of the recipies call for a cornstarch and potato starch base for the flour, along w/either xanthan or guar gum. (Very inexpensive except for the xanthan gum) The rest of the ingredients are normal staples in my pantry. I made the pizza crust tonight and it...
  10. Thanks, I was looking for the GFP mixes in the blue and white colored boxes. I'll look closer next time for the different packaging. Is there anything other specific gluten-free brand products they carry that I'm missing? I just know about the waffles, pasta, and Gluten Free Pantry.
  11. I'm ecstatic that our new superWalmart carries the Van's gluten-free waffles -- and today I found gluten-free pasta. I've read on here that some Walmarts carry Gluten Free Pantry products. Where would I find them in the store?
  12. We're going to a fun family getaway to downtown Chicago tomorrow. There will be 3 diabetics with us and 2 celiacs. (Yes, we have issues...) Anyways, the taste of Chicago starts tommorrow, plus we will be staying on the River North side downtown. Any good recommendations for gluten-free Food down there? Thanks
  13. We just picked strawberries on Sunday and ended up with 15 pounds!!! I made 3 batches of jam 2 pies, and froze the rest. Here's our favorite pie recipie: 1 gluten-free pie crust, baked and cooled 2-3 cups washed, chopped strawberries 2/3c. sugar (or splenda) 1 small sugar free package of strawberry jello 2 Tbsp. cornstarch 1c. water Mix together...
  14. I believe I am one of those people who has celiac, but had all negative tests, including the biopsy. (Read my signature below for my history). I went gluten-free 2 1/2 months ago. And PRESTO, ALL my symptoms went away within a week. I believe that the biopsy was done in the very early stages of the disease and probably missed the damage. And I know...
  15. Meijers stores have a great dry goods gluten free selection. They don't carry any refrigerated/frozen bread or waffles, but they do carry the gluten-free "snack" foods, bread mixes, cereals, etc. in the "Healthy Living" section of the store.
  16. My DH, who is not celiac, has exactly what you are describing. He has SEVERE RLS diagnosed by a sleep study he had done in December. He is currently taking Requip and it works wonders. I can finally sleep now without him kicking me all night long!!!
  17. I could have written your posts EXACTLY. I do not have an official diagnosis, either. You can read my signature and see all of my history -- the latest is another negative blood panel -- surprise, surprise... BUT, 1 month ago I went gluten free and have NEVER felt better. ALL of my symptoms were GONE in a week. And this is after very severe symptoms...
  18. This happened to my mom. She had anemia for years but was otherwise healthy. But the day my grandfather was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer, her celiac symptoms became very very severe and sudden. It took a while for her to be diagnosed -- but when this traumatic event happened, her celiac all of a sudden showed up.

    ARCHIVED Michigan Doctors Help

I'm in the Southwest corner of Michigan and I go to Dr. Morrow at Grand River Gastroenterology. I've been pretty happy with him.
  20. Can someone tell me why TVP is on the forbidden list? I thought it was made of soy. Where's the gluten? I use it a lot in place of ground meat.... Thanks for the help in advance!
  21. I just have to add to the whole gallbladder issue. I had mine out in January 2004 after 3 months of HORRIBLE pain. The dr couldn't figure out what was wrong because an ultrasound didn't show gallstones and I didn't have "classic" symptoms. After landing in the ER the day after Christmas, they finally did a HIDA scan and it showed my gallbladder wasn't...

  23. This is so fascinating to me. I have not been diagnosed yet, but have strong suspicions I have celiac. I have had SEVERE red/dry eyes for the last 2 years. My doctor even had me tested for Sjogern's disease because my eyes were so bad. I can't wear contacts anymore, either. I go to the GI tomorrow for more testing.
  24. One more question -- How do I know that the lab my doctor sends the celiac bloodwork to is a "good" lab. Of course my doctor is going to say it's a good lab, but how can I be sure?
  25. Thank you all. I'm finally feeling like I'm not going crazy. I originally had an appointment with my GI doctor April 9th, but I've been so sick they moved it up to this Tuesday, March 20th. I also had a negative biopsy a couple of years ago, but looking back, my symptoms were just starting. I am having more symptoms than I did back then and they're more...
