ARCHIVED Can Toddlers Have Rls Related To Gluten Intolerance?
debmom replied to Hopefulmama's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter also suffered from RLS for years; her father has it, too. When she sent on the gluten free diet, her symptoms improved. She still has it occasionally, but it is not as severe and does not keep her up at night as it used to on occasion. -
My daughter, 16, who had terrible lower pelvic pain for 7 months and was diagnosed with thyroiditis, Reynauds and mold allergies within two months of each other, saw most of her symptoms resolve and the pain slowly disappear after we started a gluten free diet. In the midst of all her pain and 7 hospital visits, she had a colonoscopy (looking for Crohn's...

ARCHIVED Need Help W/ Holiday Recipe For Preschool
debmom replied to rysmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
How about some rice krispie treats made with Erewhon rice cereal? We use the one with the raspberries and blueberries in the cereal. Mix a package of Kraft marshmellows with three TBSPs of Smart Balance instead of butter over low heat or heat in the microwave. Mix in 6 cups of the cereal and when coated, press the mixture into a 13x9 pan coated with... -

ARCHIVED Looking For Experienced Minds -- Does He Or Doesn't He?
debmom replied to w919oct's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Your experience with your child sounds very much like ours with our daughter. We were told that her tests looked good, and that she had severe gastritis, but not celiac, and yet her terrible symptoms resolved on the diet and returned when she inadvertently got gluten one evening. On the diet, she has seen most of her symptoms disappear. -
ARCHIVED Symptoms In My 9 Year Old
debmom replied to amsuka's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Your description of your daughter sounds just like mine-- moodiness, round, pale face, etc. She is definitely gluten sensitive, but blood work did not show celiac disease. she had terrible abdominal pain, however, for seven months that sent us to the ER 7 times until she was finally hospitalized-- with no conclusive diagnosis. Once we started the gluten... -
ARCHIVED I Need Thoughts From You Mommies!
debmom replied to BonnieCR's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter had all the same symptoms (plus extreme abdominal pain) you describe and most have resolved pretty well with the gluten free diet. I would not rule out celiac at all. -
ARCHIVED I Worry Too Much.
debmom replied to dandelionmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I can relate. My daughter was 15 when diagnosed and is 16 now. So college is just two years away. But she is SOOO good about her diet and has found so many things to eat that she enjoys. Occasionally she has a mini-meltdown, but overall she feels so much better that the diet isn't an issue. I will still send her to school/ college with homemade goodies... -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Chronic Gastritis?
debmom replied to Nikki'smom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter's tests alwasy come back with chronic gastritis, so I guess they can be linked. Even off of the gluten, she still has terrible digestion problems of acid reflux and nausea. She is allergic to all the acid reflux treatments, so she just has to be very careful with what she eats. -

ARCHIVED Please Help Me...new To Celiac
debmom replied to Melmelsmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Your story sounds a bit like ours. My daughter took 6 weeks to feel better and then six months later still has trouble with a lot of foods. She has had 5 surgeries this year on top of the gluten intolerance diagonosis, so we think that the anesthesia has torn up her intestines as well. But the good news is that she seems to be getting better, albeit slowly... -

ARCHIVED Symptoms Of Gluten Pr Lactose Intolerance?
debmom replied to loraleena's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter had intermittent symptoms of pain from gluten for months, maybe years, until she started having it all the time. It took six weeks for the pain to go away completely after stopping gluten. The intermittent nature of your son's digestive problems could be the start of it if my daughter's experience is typical. she was also lactose intolerant... -

ARCHIVED Please Recommend Kid-friendly Nutritious gluten-free Cereal
debmom replied to JennyC's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We like the Gluteno cereals, especially the Honey Nut. We also buy the Whole Foods frozen gluten free muffins (all varieties are delicious) and the Van's Gluten Free waffles-- with flax or with blueberries. Even my non-celiac children love them. It saves some time in the morning, and the muffins are better than any I've been able to make! -
ARCHIVED Need Some Advice
debmom replied to ckmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Aside from the possibility of hidden gluten (toothpaste?) could she have established a pattern of receiving attention when her stomach hurt? And now she uses that to gain attention when she is bored or needing some parent time? My daughter and I developed a different relationship when she was sick and in pain all the time. We had to reestablish a new... -

debmom replied to ItchyMeredith's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I wish we had known when our daughter was a toddler what was going on. She was 15 when diagnosed and had just been diagnosed with several autoimmune diseases and allergies as well as chemical sensitivities. But she had trouble all her life with stomach pain and bowel problems, so it's been there all along. I would have his blood tested but don't rely on... -

ARCHIVED Recovery Time For Gluten Free Diet
debmom posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter may have non celiac gluten intolerance or celiac. It depends on which doctor we are talking to. At first she was diagnosed with endometriosis at 15, but the GYN decided that the diagnosis was wrong or at least incomplete. she had terrible, debilitating lower pelvic pain off and on for several months as well as some nausea and dizziness. In...
