  1. I'm visiting Texas soon and have read about this place. Has anyone been there? I'm going to try it out as it is totally gluten free! They have chicken fried steak on the menu-a dish I thought would be gone from my diet forever! (probably should!) I'd appreciate any reviews!
  2. She's been gluten-free for two weeks now and WHAT a difference! She tested one point below on the blood test and so we gene tested her. She is DQ2. Her only symptoms were extreme irritability and constant hunger. We decided to take her gluten-free and see what happened. She is so much more cheerful and happy. She gets frustrated but can stop it and...
  3. Testing-if you are off gluten it can give you a false negative. You can order a gene test and, coupled with a positive dietary response, be done. There is nothing the medical community can do for you. Most common cereals are off limits because of malt flavoring. Very few, Cocoa Pebbles is one, are safe and you still need to read the label every...
  4. I responded to the other one so you can read that but I have something to offer about the rash. My dd was exactly like that as a baby. No diaper or cream made any difference. She potty trained on her on at 17 months but still wore a pullup at night. It go a little better but finally I bit the bullet and bought an bedwetting alarm and she got dry at night...
  5. Our Big Lots has Kineret Classic chocolate chip and almond cookies for $1.50. They're kosher and say gluten free on the front of the box. They are really good-like shortbread cookies. I'm going to get a couple of almond boxes to crush for pie crusts at the holidays. Yummy!
  6. She is HLA DQ 2,3 subtype 2,7 So that means she has the most common celiac gene and the sensitivity gene. A double whammy. I'm not surprised at all as she was one point under the cutoff with her blood work and she has lots of symptoms. Even she said she thought it would be positive. Still, she cried a lot and was pretty upset. Luckily I was diagnosed...
  7. Such an exciting time!! All those things are normal. When you are this far along the way the baby moves around can cause a small change in the measurement. The weight lose can also be a sign of impending birth! I lost five pounds before the birth of two of mine. Oh, and you can breeze through a birth. I did! Yes, there is some real pain but you...
  8. I hear you about missing the dairy more! That's why I liked this salsa. The avocado makes it tastes very creamy and dairy filled. You could add more than one I suppose.
  9. Blend it up with an avocado and a bit of cilantro and lime juice. This is really delicious on chips or anything with chicken.
  10. I've had pernicious anemia for over ten years. If I miss my injection and it drops I get really fatigued. NOt something you're going to want to worry over when you might find yourself lacking sleep in the near future! Also, depression is one of symptoms of low b12 and that could make it difficult to tell the difference between baby blues and postpartum...
  11. Hey, I thought of a way to explain it! Think of bubble gum. If you want to blow a bubble you can't do it with that hard square chunk. You've got to change the structure of the gum by chewing. Nothing in the ingredients have changed but it is different. I hope she'll listen to you. Maybe someone could amend the wikipedia entry?
  12. The amount of gluten doesn't change but kneading changes the structure of it. Does that make sense? You stretch out the strands and make the bread chewy. Different flours have different amounts of gluten. Bread flour has a higher gluten content than pastry flour because you want chewy bread but not chewy piecrust. She's sort of right, I suppose. But...
  13. I was diagnosed with menorrhagia about ten years ago. Really, it's always been that way since I could remember. It got progressively worse until there where several days out of the month I couldn't really leave the house without a change of clothes. I'm not even kidding a little bit. I had surgery two years ago with a specialist that made no difference...
  14. This seems sarcastic and baiting considering the other conversation in which you are currently embroiled. You have made it abundantly clear that you do not believe people can react to topical gluten. This will continue to come up so perhaps you should consider avoiding these posts? If you feel it necessary to educate us you can post any relevant articles...
  15. This "housewife" was the one who suggested celiac as the root of my thirteen year history of various disorders. Seems to me I remember one of you is bound for medical school. I would hope that you would see that many of us suffered for over a decade with this disease before diagnosis--all because no one could be bothered to put together the pieces of...
  16. I know the Quaker brand is but how about this one? I can't get the Quaker brand easily. If you can answer today that would be fab! Thanks!
  17. You certainly could have celiac not MS. For years I faced an MS diagnosis when it was really celiac. I too, had the brain spots. I'm gluten-free for about three months now and feeling fantastic. I was very happy to have celiac and not MS. If you've been eating gluten you can have a simple blood test to find out. Best wishes to you!
  18. I found these at Wal mart. They were with the rice milk and soy chips not with the other bars near the pharmacy stuff. These are very good. They are like a brownie more than a protein bar.
  19. Bountiful Harvest is the next city over from me. I've had the cheesecake and it IS as good as it looks. If you like sweets once in a while and don't want to bake that might be a good way to spend your money. You can portion it up and freeze single servings.
  20. Mean girls come in all ages.... This moment when you join together is a beginning. It should be marked with celebration and beauty. You will be beautiful that day and full of joy--think of what is ahead for you! If you can buy three dresses and still put food (gluten-free, of course!) on the table, so be it. Mark this beginning. It's one of the few...
  21. I use that exclusively on my bunch. It works so well and doesn't wash off easily. It is especially good if other sunscreens irritate your skin.
  22. I gave up dairy as well. I have tested it a couple of times and it is the culprit. I even bought some Lactaid to see if it was lactose. I choose to avoid for now but if I am really wanting ice cream I know I can have it with the Lactaid. So far I've been able to resist. I figure my poor intestines need a break after all those years of damage!
  23. Frozen peaches whirred up in the food processor are so good! It's llike sorbet without any added much. Peel and freeze the peaches until they are hard. Put them in the processor and walkaway until they are smooth--yum! Also, our church's food bank loves to get fresh, homegrown produce to give away. Fresh fruit and vegetables are a real luxury to the...
  24. Hi, I'm overweight and I was diagnosed by blood work. I'm ten weeks in and if I had any doubts they have been removed by my excellent response. I'm not the only one as there is currently a thread running of people trying to lose weight. Let's see what I have in common with you--heavy periods, swollen feet, depression, heartburn, restless legs, and...
  25. I found them at mine as well! They were mixed in with the cake and muffin mixes--they weren't together. I bought two boxes of each even though I have no plans to eat them. Wal-Mart is quick to drop things if they don't sell extremely fast. Like two weeks ago they had the Vans gluten-free waffles but not this week.
