  1. I've thought about this a lot. The cost to get a gluten free food manufacturing business off the ground has to be more than any other type. Their raw materials are far more as well, especially when they are avoiding artificial flavorings and opting for organic goods. Many of these products required new equipment that had to be designed and researched. ...
  2. Welcome to the club! There is a learning curve and mistakes will happen, but you'll get the hang of it in time.
  3. You'll find a few of us on here who were told they had MS. I was given a tentative diagnosis the same time they discovered my low b12. I took injections for three years before the symptoms like you describe mostly went away. The nerve damage from low b12 can take quite awhile to repair. Sadly for some, it never completely heals. You may very well NOT...
  4. Yes, I've had two. They were both to rule out MS. I had bright white spots but they were in the "wrong place" to be MS related according to the neuro. It turned out B12 was my problem. With three years of injections and finding out I had celiac, the symptoms resolved. The scan itself is very noisy and closed in. They put this mask over your face...
  5. Hi all, I've been baking this recipe and we like the taste of it very well. The only ingredient I'm leaving out is the small amount of egg replacer. It bakes up fine but when I take it out to cool, it falls down in the center. It comes out in an M shape--or bunny shaped my kids say. Any ideas?
  6. Sounds like it! The spotting could be implantation. Pregnancy tests are pretty sensitive these days, even the cheapo ones. Dollar Tree sells them. If the line is even faintly pink, it's a positive. Why not go get a couple? Use it first thing in the morning for the best result. Happy thoughts your way!
  7. Mine is gone. But I did have to have B12 injections for about three years. I'm off them now but I still take a sublingual everyday. I agree that you need added support in the way vitamins until you've been gluten-free for awhile. I have some patchy places of reduced sensation on my toes but I can live with that. Best thing is to stay rigidly gluten-free...
  8. I've been reading about this as well since I just had my gallbladder out. I never had classic symptoms but agreed to have it out because I was so sick. Turns out I had cholesterolosis. It's a mostly silent disease of the gallbladder that sometimes can develop into cancer. Scary! But in my reading I found the referred pain reference and immediately recognized...
  9. We eat it to help with seasonal allergies. It seems to diminish them.
  10. Sometimes it doesn't have anything to do with celiac. I had the same thing and wound up having my gallbladder out. I just recently posted about it. In one week of recovery I have seen all those "glutening" symptoms disappear. I never had any of the classic gallbladder symptoms. Just a thought....
  11. Hi all, I had my gallbladder out on July 25th and I've been waiting to see what would happen. A little background-I've been gluten-free since April of 07. I had a tremendous turnaround in my health and hadn't felt so great in years. Then, around October of 07, I started getting sick alot. I thought I was getting glutened somehow despite being very careful...
  12. I would ask specifically for a SERUM B12 and SERUM iron. I went through all the weird looking blood cells that no one could figure out. They KNEW my blood wasn't normal but they couldn't figure out why. When you have both B12 and iron anemia it causes some strange looking blood! Sadly, I was told it was not a malabsorption issue. It's taken about four...
  13. No endoscopy? If your celiac panel comes back positive they will probably suggest that next. I would as for vitamin/mineral levels because if they're low you can make a case for malabsorption. How about your gallbladder? It can be causing trouble even without pain. You have some more investigating before you give up. Don't give up yet. Be persistant...
  14. I test low and have been very low in the past. If I don't have it, I get "electrical" type pain that runs down my arm. It is very specific and feels like current running. It has improved so much on the gluten-free diet that I have gone from shots back to sublingual.
  15. We've had nothing but good come of the family going gluten-free. My husband hasn't had a migraine in months and we all eat much healthier without Cheez Its around. I don't get the "suffer" bit. The kids who are going to bed tonight without ANY food are suffering. Those of us doing without crackers.....not so much.
  16. I third the iPhone. He can search online in the store or call the company. Plus, it has a notepad where he can keep lists of stuff he likes. Not to mention it has an iPod as well.
  17. I'm sure I've read of someone on this board who was told it wasn't celiac only to get the report later that clearly said celiac. I can't for the life of me imagine a physician would do that but it must happen. I agree with requesting the report. I can't believe you would find another gi who would say blunted villi were normal. The people on this board...
  18. Three pills a day to eat one stinking slice of bread?! You gotta be pulling my leg! Who would get worked up over that? I really would rather see the research focus on better diagnosing.
  19. Like glazed doughnuts? That's usually powdered sugar, water and flavoring like lemon or vanilla. Or, a glaze can be thinned out jelly. What is it on?
  20. I saw a neat thing for those of you with little ones who are gluten free. It's a temporary tattoo that says No Gluten No Wheat No Barley No Rye No Oats. I thought this would be great for ones that are too young to be counted on to relay the message. It's a website called tattoos with a purpose. They also have tattoos about having other issues and needing...
  21. I have bought it. I made a sponge cake from the mix for July 4th. It was a delicious cake--soft and light and not too sweet. I had no ill effects nor did my gluten-free family. I'm sure that you will hear alot on both sides of this.
  22. You're a grown-up so you don't need anyone's permission to do it. I do hope others won't be encouraged to do it just because you report no ill effects. The truth of the matter, which I can see you understand, is damage could be taking place without any outward signs. If you accept that risk, I support you in your choice. I am Catholic so I do absolutely...
  23. I'm happy to be alive even though I have it! I didn't find out I had it until after I had my three but I wouldn't change it--and they all three have the gene.
  24. I've been wanting one of these so I broke down and got one. I took some Gluten Free Pantry muffin mix and used that as my batter. I rolled them in powdered sugar while they were still hot. The kids and I had them with our tea and coffee and they were so, so good! There is a learning curve on getting the flipping right but it is not too bad. I'm going...
  25. Congratulations to you! You are ahead of the game now that you know what is going on. I know you are worried but many people, myself included, had multiple pregnancies before we were diagnosed. Celiac affects us all differently but it does not always cause problems with pregnancy. My three kids can testify to that! Checking your levels is...
