ARCHIVED What's For Dinner?
TrillumHunter replied to KarenFe's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Oh, I remembered something we had last week that was so yummy and no work at all. Baked rice and lentils 1 c brown rice 1/2 c lentils some curry powder add to taste I would say a teaspoon or more small can coconut milk 3oz I think the size of a tomato paste can handful of broken up cashews 2 1/3 cup boiling water Throw this all together in a glass... -
ARCHIVED Iron Pills

I took Vitron C. It never had any of the usual side effects. Sadly, I never could get mine up with oral supplements over two years them. Watch your MCV on your blood work. My hematologist said this is the best indicator of stored iron. You know not to take your iron with dairy or fiber, right? It will reduce your absorption. -
ARCHIVED What's For Dinner?

Really, it's a make-do, budget stretcher recipe. I take leftover potato soup and add corn (frozen or canned), spinach (frozen or fresh), and some more cooked, diced potato. I add as much chicken stock or milk as it takes to make it soup and that's it. Sometimes I add cheese or sour cream and spices. Dill is very good with this mix. Soup is my leftover rescuer... -

Here's what we had so far this week: Monday-tacos with corn tortillas Tues-Chicken veggie stir fry and rice Wed-potato, spinach, corn soup The only specially gluten-free product I've used this week is soy sauce in the stir-fry. Everything else has come from the regular market. I think the advice to sit down and think of what you ate before is very... -
ARCHIVED New Grist Beer Tested Positive For Gluten
TrillumHunter replied to dilettantesteph's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This type of thread is so upsetting to me. Here we have a responsible manufacturer trying to provide a gluten-free product we've asked for--going so far as to have outside tests on EACH batch even. Yet, with one post, you can completely discredit the company based on a single, home test that has demonstrated unreliablity in the past. And then others say... -

ARCHIVED Has Anyone Used Steroids While Dealing With Celiac?
TrillumHunter replied to UnhappyCoeliac's topic in Sports and Fitness
The tiny 'nads, uncontrollable rage and possible jail time aren't enough? Guy, come on, I can see you are unhappy but this is a bad idea. -
ARCHIVED B12, Pernicious Anemia, Celiac Disease, Iron Levels
TrillumHunter replied to Oma81307's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The iron shots don't work like b-12. It takes some time for new blood cells to be made using the iron you've been given. I started on iron infusions about two weeks ago. I've had one partial, due to an allergic reaction, and two full infusions. I would say yesterday is the first time I noticed any change. My hands and feet are warm and it's easier to... -
ARCHIVED Zantac No Longer Working...
TrillumHunter replied to NorthernElf's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Any chance it's low stomach acid? I tried the acid blockers with no effect. I started taking two tablespoons of good apple cider vinegar in about four ounces of water twice a day. It has really helped! If my stomach is burning, I can take a dose and feel better within 15 minutes. I use the Bragg's brand as it has the good bacteria and it's more palatable... -
Not that it helps us, but I think it is moving up the short list. I guess I understand now that I didn't fit the 10 minute profile of celiac that most doctors got in med school. I do wish they would have looked at all my abnormalities and said, "WELL, it must be SOMETHING!" But, it is what it is... One word of warning: be careful indulging in the gluten...

I went through that. It took over a decade for me to be diagnosed. There are a lot of us like that on here. What to do? You can say something to the dr. But, don't let his response to it affect your moving forward. You can't control his response and he might not be sorry about it all. Express yourself because YOU need to, not because you want him to...

ARCHIVED Angel Food Ministries
TrillumHunter replied to TrillumHunter's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I believe this is new for this program. I pick up my order on March 16 so I will let everyone know how things taste. I looked online and this price is almost half of what they charge on QVC for this stuff. Maybe more than half if you consider shipping? My kids are pretty jazzed about this and so am I! -

The allergen box counts as a "regular" box. You can get just one of those or you can get one of those and one or more of the "special" boxes. I ordered the allergen box and the fruit and veggie box. HTH -

Del-Eb Just Whites This is just pure, dried egg whites. I buy it at Kroger in with the baking stuff. It's pricey but much easier to keep hand than the other types of egg whites. -
ARCHIVED Angel Food Ministries
TrillumHunter posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Angel Food ministries has been around for a while. They offer boxes of food at a very low cost. It started as a way to help low income people make ends meet. Now the boxes can be purchased by anyone. It actually helps the program because it increases their buying power. They are offering a box with five pounds of breaded chicken products for $25. You... -
ARCHIVED I Found My Diagnosis Not My Doctor, And It Bothers Him.
TrillumHunter replied to I hate gluten's topic in Doctors
Seriously though, Sara Beth, I hope you don't get stuck on the doctor that let you down. It is what it is. You can do your best to help him learn but you can only led a horse to water, right? There are good doctors and even an average doctor can help you if you are clear and upfront about what is going on. And with celiac the chances are you are going to... -
ARCHIVED I Found My Diagnosis Not My Doctor, And It Bothers Him.
TrillumHunter replied to I hate gluten's topic in Doctors
Physicians, like any other profession, follow the Bell curve. Some are great, some are horrendous, most are average. Seek the great, avoid the horrendous, educate the average. There. I'm glad I could wrap that all up for you all so neatly! I found my celiac too, and now my APN looks for it. -
ARCHIVED So Many Problems, Yet No Doctor Will Listen!
TrillumHunter replied to ptkds's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Another anemic here. Before I was dx with celiac I had a stress test and the whole workup for chest pain--at age 34. I was only "slighty" anemic so they didn't think it was that. My heart is fine, great in fact but the I don't have slight anemia. My current hematologist says I have severe anemia masked by the inflammation in my body. I'm getting an iron... -
ARCHIVED Iron Infusion
TrillumHunter posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
After about two years of trying to get my H/H up with oral iron, I finally saw a hematologist again. I pulled my old labs over the last two years and no matter how high my serum iron and ferritin levels were, my hematocrit never got over 11. She told me that inflammation of any kind raises the serum ferritin artificially. She drew blood and said my MVC... -
ARCHIVED Low Stomach Acid
TrillumHunter replied to TrillumHunter's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm taking the Twin Lab brand. Do you have any recommendations? I actually took one last night before dinner. I had less pain after eating. I took two this morning with breakfast. My stomach was hurting a bit before from the coffee I'd had. I have no pain--really the first time in a long while. I even took my iron a half hour after eating and I still... -
ARCHIVED Low Stomach Acid
TrillumHunter replied to TrillumHunter's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have been scoped--about a year ago. I had mild gastritis at the time. The first step in figuring out I had celiac was finding my low b12. That was six years ago. When it didn't clear up the dr started calling it PA without any additional testing. I asked about it and was told the test wasn't usually done as it was so easily treated. I went to the gi... -
Hi all, I've have a recurring issue with iron and b-12 anemia despite being gluten-free for two years. It has not gotten any better and all the iron, 130 mg a day, is killing my stomach. I have an appt with a hematologist to discuss iron infusion but I wonder if I should look at this as a possibility first? My celiac started with neuro issues before gi...

Same here. My lashes hit my glasses. I can't wear mascara on my bottom lashes because they touch my lower lid. Our dental hygienist told my son he had the longest eyelashes she'd ever seen. At least we have one perk...

ARCHIVED Is Going Gluten Free Healthier For The Non-gluten Intolerant
TrillumHunter replied to clnewberry1's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It was for my family. My husband has less migraines, my oldest isn't constipated, my middle doesn't rage, and the youngest doesn't have black circles under his eyes anymore. We eat much healthier as most pre-packed and fast foods are off limits. They were all blood tested and only the middle came back borderline. But, like many people, they do have... -
Hmm, think xanthan might be a problem for me as well. I've been having some issues after Friday night pizza night. I thought it was the tapioca. I bought the guar gum and used it Friday and, lo and behold, no issue on Saturday morning. Kinda stinks because many gluten-free products have xanthan....
