  1. I'm sorry, but it does. I imagine, but don't know for sure, that they're all produced at the same facility. The soy must come from the soy lecithin in the chocolate chips in the cookies and the brownies. If you take away the chocolate chips, I can't see any other source of soy. I hate that for you soy-avoiders.
  2. Well, it's good. It is light and fluffy. It has a very tender and moist crumb. The texture is really right on. It has that gluten-free smell. It's not unpleasant, it just doesn't smell of sweetness and vanilla. It calls for your own vanilla and I use a high quality vanilla so I don't know. They have the texture down pat. I felt through the dry...
  3. Yep, one layer. Not such a great price. I'm reviewing it on the other thread I started.
  4. Actually, a traditional wheat-based recipe calls for 1 1/2 for a two-layer cake so that's not too off. It's cake, baby!
  5. I found them at Kroger in with the gluten stuff at 4.49 a box Yellow cake mix makes 1 layer You need: 2/3 cups water, 1 stick butter, 2 teaspoons vanilla, and 3 eggs Contains: rice flour, sugar potato starch, leavening (baking soda, sodium acid pyrophosate, monocalcium phosphate), xanthan gum, salt MAY CONTAIN SOY (on the box!) The serving...
  6. A person in my local group found them at Kroger with the gluten cake mixes. She said they were 4.95 a box.
  7. If you are Catholic, there is a letter from the Pontificia on this website that explains the Church teaching. Anything outside these guidelines, no matter how loving the intent, is not permissible. Jesus is fully present in the Precious Blood you receive from the cup. If you aren't Catholic, it sounds like you can have communion in many ways.
  8. Hi all, I'm playing with mixing my own flour blend and I have one that tastes very good and I am working on the nutrition aspect of it. I added flax to my mix and the dough came out rubbery. It had a very bouncy firm feel to it. It tasted great but made a very flaccid pizza crust. I know flax can be used as an egg replacement so I am wondering if that...
  9. When I bought it there was a link on the Angel Food website to the company that made the foods. It wasn't hidden or anything. The box says on the outside "Allergy Free Foods Company." You can google them and read all about them and their practices. As far as the veg goes, those are extras and an individual can order as many as they want. Your friend...
  10. Take extra care of yourself. Get rest, drink lots of water and do what you need to feel better. Oh, and don't eat gluten again!
  11. I've had it for years related to my cycle. It doesn't last more that three days or so. I don't want to take sleeping meds so I just roll with it. I do a lot of paper work during that time. Once I accepted it, I quit feeling so exhausted by it. If it runs past three days I really struggle with it. And, my husband knows I need some extra sleep the couple...
  12. Being mildly dehydrated usually does that to me.
  13. I think Blue Lizard is and I know California Baby is free of all those things. We buy Blue Lizard for our redhead with super sensitive skin and it works great. I buy it a CVS.
  14. I think you are very fortunate to have such devoted and caring parents. Lots of folks on here really struggle with family issues. I hope you can encourage their kindness. If they are willing to keep a cookie sheet and a pan separate, I think you are way ahead of the game. I would focus on naturally gluten-free meals to begin with for now. Grilling season...
  15. You can buy Toro mixes in the US already. I've bought them from my local health food store. The wheat starch in them contains no more than 20 ppm of gluten. Many will argue this issue ad nauseam. There is another thread on the board about the Toro mixes. You have to make your own decision about it. Frankly, I thought the cake was good, and closer to...
  16. Sarah Vowell is HILARIOUS! I would love to hear her take on our issues!
  17. LOL, Larry Mac! I was trying to be diplomatic. I do think any of that bread would be very good treated this way. As opposed to only edible, you know.
  18. Crush some up pretty fine. I used the food processor. Dip your bread in egg beat with a little milk and vanilla and then in the crushed cereal. I cooked in in butter on a low flame. Yummy! I used homemade bread but I bet this would be really good with slightly stale store bought bread. Let the bread soak a bit and it gets sort of custardy inside.
  19. Let him come test it! Is that possible?
  20. Roasted veggies are delicious. There's something satisfying about them that seems more like a meal. Think outside the usual and roast broccoli, cauliflower, fennel, green beans, anything really. Hard squashes do very well. Sprinkle over a large handful of parsley chopped to brighten it up. We can get parsley here the year round.
  21. Well said and I agree to the first statements and yum, yum, yum to the second!
  22. I must be doing something wrong with the rice pasta. If I don't rinse it there's just a big lump of noodles in the colander covered in slime. It clumps up before the water is completely drained. I've used lots of brands and some are better than others but I always have to rinse some. What am I doing wrong?
  23. Oh, yeah. Those made go into the way-back machine. I haven't had anything that wasn't super yummy from them. They offer FREE SHIPPING no matter the size of the order as well. I don't have any stake in the company either.
  24. I do add some of the cooking water. It is well seasoned and helps to get a good consistency in the sauce. I do rinse the heck out of rice pastas. I cannot stand them otherwise. But I don't rinse corn pastas as they don't need it.
  25. I am sorry for your loss. After what you've endured, nervousness would be expected. That said, I had three healthy pregnancies before I was diagnosed. I had been symptomatic for about five years before my first pregnancy but no one could figure it out. The smallest baby I had was just under seven pounds. All were healthy and strong from the beginning...
