  1. Dissenting vote--I have a six year old Ultra I don't like. After about two years the motor quit changing speeds. It basically has slow and medium but no in between speeds. I'm looking at a Bosch now.
  2. I forgot to say that I think you have a pretty savvy doctor. If your only symptom is Hashimoto's and she did a celiac panel then she is way ahead of the curve on autoimmune issues. I would trust her.
  3. I learned a lot from Celiac Disease: A Hidden Epidemic by Dr. Peter Green. It is well worth having. My dr. did not think an endoscopy was necessary. Many physicians agree with this approach. I think it is up to you. One thing to remember is that a negative endoscopy DOES NOT mean you don't have celiac. The pillcam may be the answer to the positive...
  4. Biopsy as the only true way to diagnosis celiac is very questionable. Biopsy does not always catch the patchy damage that celiac causes. This is the focus of a number of researchers and isn't true in other countries that have a far better track record for diagnosing celiac. Biopsy is a tool to be used in companion with the celiac panel and a trial of the...
  5. Congratulations to you both! Grow, Nathaniel, grow so you can go home to Mom and Dad!
  6. I think in your heart you know the answer. Fidddle-Faddle is right about all of it. It is an either or not situation not a matter of degrees. If you retest in a year and the levels are high enough to satisfy the drs, that means you've spent a year of your son's life poisoning him. It sounds like he did get the panel but only broke the threshold on the...
  7. The Special K20 protein water is gluten-free. Maybe you could try that? The prep is very unpleasant. I think the liquid diet is a great idea beforehand. If you can stand it, you might go low residue the week before as well. Also, my dr said once what's coming out looks the same as what went in, you can stop. As far as the procedure, it's one of those...
  8. Oh, can I come!!? It all sounds really wonderful and delicious. Have a great time and enjoy yourself! Do think someone will ask, "Is this really gluten-free?"
  9. Nope, not for me. I wouldn't want to be a guinea pig and I'm eating much healthier on a gluten-free diet. I feel better at forty than I did at twenty.
  10. Sounds familiar. PN was my first symptom. It was much worse when I got hot. I was told it was most likely MS as I did have abnormalities in my MRI. That or just nothing. After suffering with it, and it is painful, for about eight years a neurologist diagnosed me with pernicious anemia--b-12. Her words were, "I don't know how you're walking around with...
  11. I agree with Momma Goose. She seems pretty unfamiliar with celiac. GI's typically manage celiac patients as it is a gi disease---that affects your whole body! If you decide to see a gi, I would recommend getting in touch with a local group to find the most celiac friendly dr. Otherwise, you could just be wasting your time.
  12. Why keep guessing? If you are still eating gluten, go and have a celiac panel drawn. It's no big deal, just a blood draw. Your symptoms are consistent with celiac. Also, you'll find lots of folks with a dual diagnosis of celiac/Hashimoto's thyroiditis. I wouldn't do any detox until I had the panel run for celiac. Just my .02. Best wishes for...
  13. It's positive. You don't have degrees of celiac, you just have it or you don't. So, WELCOME TO THE CLUB! It sounds like you've already seen the positive impact avoiding gluten can have on your life. As you heal and adapt to the diet change, you'll be surprised at the issues that will clear up. You'll have lots of questions and times when it seems...
  14. At 15, that is remarkably immature behavior. I disagree with your dad's take on it. Like someone else told you, I would talk to your dad again and tell him how it makes you feel. Try to do this at a time away from when the taunting has happened. You're twelve and we're asking you to be very mature about this. Also, please try to keep any hint of a whine...
  15. I am noticing that as well. They are super hard now. I used to have a funny curve to a couple of them but no more. I have to cut them down every two weeks to keep them a reasonable length. I think I will go get a manicure!
  16. David, your recipes are FANTASTIC! You're site is a go-to for me! That's a great place to start if you're looking for recipes.
  17. Good thinking! I have never tried oats at all so that wouldn't have crossed my mind. You get the Sherlock Holmes Award of the day! Jamie, hang in there. It gets easier and you can find stuff you like and can tolerate. It just takes longer for some.
  18. Begging your pardon, my dear. I thought you were looking for alternatives. Unless a commercially produced bread states that it is gluten-free, you can assure yourself it is not. No variety of wheat, barley or rye, no matter how ancient the strain or preparation method, is safe for people with celiac disease. Additionally, consuming low gluten foods on...
  19. Bob's Red Mill is one of the mainstream companies that takes extra steps to ensure our safety. If the product says gluten-free then it is produced in a dedicated facility and batch tested. Perhaps you are having trouble tolerating one of the flours in the mix? Bean flour is hard on the tummy for most newly diagnosed folks. I don't work for BRM. ...
  20. A third no. For variety you could try waffles, wraps, or lettuce leaves. No need to limit yourself to traditional bread!
  21. Unless your specifically buying gluten free ones, rice krispies contain gluten in the form of malt from barley. They're are also pretty empty nutritionally speaking. I would encourage you to consider what tarnalberry has said. You CAN branch out from your short list. And please consider giving up commercially processed foods for a while. A...
  22. So, you ate chicken bullion cubes and arrowroot cookies? Well, I'd tell you both those things are pretty crappy foods. Could you dedicate yourself to eating whole foods for a while? No msg, so chemical soup, no complex thickeners and binders, just food. The rule would be that it needs to look exactly like it did when it came off the plant, tree or out of...
  23. Frozen grapes. Really, they're a different from unfrozen. They're so yummy as they thaw a bit.
  24. That's something that cleared up for me as I have healed. I do think it was related to deficiencies.
