  1. Depression was one of my MAJOR symptoms before I was diagnosed. But I always wondered if it was the celiac or the fact that my blood chemistry was so jacked up. I was low on most everything-iron, b-12, D, E, and so on. Now that my blood chemistry is more in line, I'm doing a trial off the antidepressant. I have to say it is great! I didn't realize how...
  2. I make Lorka's bread in my bread machine. Just search this forum or go to recipezaar and search gluten free flax bread. It does need a customized cycle with only 1 rise. I have a Zojirushi machine that lets you do that. It makes a super yummy, delicious soft loaf of bread. It even has some nutrition!
  3. We had it today! It was a moist and had a good orange flavor.
  4. I found some Honey Nut Chex in Ohio at a Wal-Mart in Mansfield. Let me just say, THEY ARE GREAT!! Too bad for all of you, I bought them all---just kidding!! Aren't the strawberry supposed to be gluten-free as well?
  5. ((((Greg)))) I wish you were one of us. Praying for you!
  6. Fantastic! I hope things just keep getting better for you!
  7. Not everyone has trouble getting pregnant! Heck, all my dh had to do was wink at me. You don't say if you have any indicators besides celiac that make you think you might have trouble. If you don't then the best thing you can do is be strict about being gluten-free and make sure your vitamin and mineral levels are good and, you know, enjoy lots of......
  8. I've had it. It's delicious. I wouldn't make it my regular bread but I could see using it occasionally. 200 ppm is like 1/5 of one red marble mixed in with 1000 blue ones. You probably breathe in that much gluten walking by the bakery in the grocery. The countries that are producing theses products are decades ahead of the US in celiac research. ...
  9. If gluten is the issue, it could take months to show growth changes. Do you mean he has had no growth at all, even a small amount, in a whole year? If that is the case, I would be quite concerned. How are his cognitive milestones? If they are lagging as well as his growth, I would push for lots of testing to figure out what is going on. It is normal...
  10. Sounds like how I would have described my gastritis. I would wake up retching. I think mine was from all the oral iron I was taking. Now that I've stopped it, I'm feeling much better. the hematologist I'm seeing pushed down on my belly between my ribs--about two inches below my sternum--and I about came off the table. She said, "That's gastritis!" I...
  11. Any fine powder will ignite, even baby powder!
  12. I agree with the previous two. Yes, observing Passover is important, this is a Jewish preschool after all. However, being a Jewish preschool could they have not come up with kosher for Passover gluten free snack for her? How about a piece of fruit? You said you aren't Jewish, right? The school is aware of this I hope. You need extra guidance on this...
  13. We've eaten there several time with problems. The counter person always asks if it's an allergy and then they change gloves. Love those fries!
  14. Dried cranberries might not be kosher if sweetened with corn syrup. That said, this is a preschool. Their job is to nurture and educate children. That day, she was taught to be cruel. Surely one of the adults could have come up with something besides a cup of water. Or maybe her teacher could have shown a bit of solidarity and given up the matzoh? ...
  15. Can you line with foil? Or maybe pick up some cheap aluminum disposables? I'm sure your friend would hate to get you sick.
  16. Can anyone recommend things to see and places to eat? We'll be close to the Cleveland Clinic--the main campus, I think. But we will probably be making multiple trips and may take our kids at some point so I'm open to all suggestions. Thanks to all!
  17. I have to agree with the previous two posters. I have close to 20 years of marriage to back it up. You aren't a restaurant, right? As a couple you'll have to work a solution that doesn't put all the work on you. Normal? Are you kidding me? Even if you do marry a "normal" person there's no promise they'll stay that way. Something concrete--get some...
  18. I hope you feel better soon! Be good to yourself when you're feeling bad. As far as advice, I don't have any. What does your spouse say? Was it always like this? A friend has the same problem. Her MIL sweeps the kitchen floor with the same broom she uses to sweep dog doo off the deck. Once there was mold in some shredded cheese and my friend...
  19. Congratulations!! Much happiness is coming your way! Nursing my children was one of nicest things I ever did. I enjoyed it so much. There is a lot of talk about how healthy it is but remember also that it is good for the mom. The oxytocin released when your milk lets down is like having warm happiness poured over you! There was something empowering...
  20. My DH is from WV and we go up to see his family several times a year. I LOVE Drug Emporiums Healthy Heart marketplaces! They have great prices and selection compared to where I live. My mil is bringing me a case of Now rice flour, 3 lb bags next week. She's getting these for $2.99 a bag minus a case discount. They carry so many things I had never seen...
  21. nativeseeds.org This is the where I saw it in Arizona. If you live in Tucson, you can find them at local farmer's markets.
  22. It's made from the mesquite bean, right? I saw some at a farmer's market in Arizona last fall. They had it online so I'll have to look up their name. When I was growing up in Texas people used mesquite in their smokers. Oh man, was that good! It is a very unique flavor.
  23. I'm sorry. (((hugs))) We experienced something similar with our kitty. We tried to get her better but it just didn't work. Your kitty was lucky to have you!
  24. I have the cheap-o round one from Walmart. Big mistake! It works fine but cooking one waffle at a time for five people is torturous. I am hoping to buy the BIG one that makes four waffles at a time soon. I haven't noticed that the batters stick any more than the gluten batters. I do find that they take a bit longer to cook which makes the one-at-a-time...
  25. eat wild dot com is a great resource for local farmers in your state who raise pastured or grass fed animals on sustainable farms. If your issue is how the animals are raised versus the killing of them for food, this is the way to go. The farms I buy from are small. The people selling me the meat are the same ones who were up at 5:00 mucking the animal...
