  1. celiac3270 already mentioned this, but I think that it is very important. You should get your daughter and her grandparents to read up on the complications of celiac disease if left untreated or if you don't follow the diet. Here are some websites: Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link This may help. Your daughter...
  2. Thanks Karen, I hope the supermarkets here have them or the health food stores. I'm going to try and find some. That's great that they seem to be working for you. More sleep = good
  3. It was a neutrogena suncreen that I reacted to. They only listed their medical ingredients on the bottle. I used it a few times on my face and each time I noticed a GI reaction. I then searched the net and found that the non-medical ingredients included oat extract. I am assuming that was the culprit. I now use Banana Boat suncreen which to my knowlege...
  4. Hi! My advice would be to buy lots of gluten free cookbooks. I got most of mine from a bookstore and from a local celiac support group. I find that you can make almost anything that you normally would make... it just takes more time (to find gluten free products), patience, and sometimes a little more money. I would also become familiar with mainstream...
  5. I've read over the ingredients and the list looks ok to me. I would still use the product. From personal experinece it is important to have gluten free shampoos/conditions/lotions/suncreeen/lip gloss or whatever could potentially make it into your mouth. I've made a few mistakes and once I reacted to gluten in a suncreen that I was using. Don't...
  6. Open Original Shared Link Regular Snickers and Snickers Almond look gluten free (There doesn't appear to be any glutens in the ingredients) Snickers Cruncher and Snickers Marathons are NOT gluten free. They either have Barley malt, malt, or wheat If you have reactions to milk/lactose you could be reacting to the milk/lactose in...
  7. Karen, I am interested in trying out the hemp hearts. I mean they can't do any harm so why not? I want to start playing soccer again in January and I need energy! Question: Where did you find them.. A health food store? Ordering online? I am just wondering where to look for them. Thanks! And let us know how you are getting along with the hemp...
  8. Thanks everyone! I've never heard of a Kroger store in Canada but I do live in a very small place. I'll also look for the Angostura sauce. I may just have to get one of my US relatives to bring some of your fancy gluten free worcester sauce the next time they come to visit Take care -Carrie
  9. ummmmm..... yes. You probably should make other arrangements or cancel. Once those laxative things are in your system you have no control over your bowel movements. It just flows..... (Sorry to be so upfront but it's true) (I had to take laxative pills/liquids and fleet enema's. Fun Stuff!) I actually had a commitment the night before my colonoscopy...
  10. I've experienced the faiting feeling quite a few times. My faiting feeling usually comes when I am exercising or when I stand up quick. I haven't exprerienced it lately but I also haven't exercised in 3 months (doctors orders). I don't know how to prevent it though. I take lots and lots of vitamins in hopes that it will help with everything that is wrong...
  11. I've experienced all of the same symptoms that you described and others, especially gastro-intestinal symptoms (diarrhea, gas, bloating) before I went gluten free. After going gluten free I noticed... (I'll give a list): -decrease in hair loss (my hair loss is normal now - before going gluten-free I used to lose more hair than usual) -less bone/joint...
  12. That's odd... It's annoying that they only make a gluten free version in the US. Why wouldn't they keep the same recipe for all countries? You think it would make sence to be consistent... Who knows... Richard, Thanks. I'll check out French's and Kroger here in Canada. Hopefully I'll find something
  13. I've serched high and low for a gluten free worcester sauce. Does anyone know of any gluten free brands or even a recipe to make a gluten free worcester sauce? I want to make a casserole that calls for worcester sauce but I can't find any gluten free ones. I did find a controversy in my quest though.... Check this out: Lea & Perrins...
  14. I'm glad they were able to see what was going on in her intestine. I hope that the biopsies will reveal what is truly going on so she can get better. Good luck with the results and keep us posted!
  15. Here are some good links I found. Which give quite a bit of info. I use the Open Original Shared Link site to read ingredients on mediactions quite often (I like doing my own research on things, just in case) 1. Open Original Shared Link 2. Open Original Shared Link 3. Open Original Shared Link This info from the first link I gave may...
  16. If your daughters GI doc is checking for celiac disease he will do biopsies of the small intestine during the scope. A microscopic examination of the biopsies are necessary for the diagnosis of celiac disease (If the villi, which line the small intestine, appear flattened or damaged then they will most likely diagnose celiac disease). The villi may appear...
  17. Dad's side - Scottish, Irish Mom's side - Irish, Norwegian, English I am the only one in my family that has been diagnosed with celiac. My mom is the only other person that has been tested (as far as I know... I have a hudge family, lots of cousins).
  18. I was in a wedding (a bridesmaid) last June and I got along just fine! I brought my own food to the before-wedding dinner and I snacked on some veggies and fruit after the wedding. I just went with a positive attitude and I didn't regret not being able to eat any of the gluten foods. I think that you should go and have a good time! If you don't feel...
  19. Thanks everyone I guess I was the small percent of people that get to feel the entire process, pain and all. The pain meds didn't work too well! I am feeling a lot better today, a little discomfort but nothing too bad. It sort of feels like I did 200 sit-ups. You know that sore muscle feeling. Thanks for the links Karen, I'll look into that!
  20. Thanks so much for your replies. I feel better knowing that it's somewhat normal to feel pain for awhile after the test. My doctor didn't specifically say what he was looking for because I guess the problem could be a number of things. My doctor told one of the nurses that my colon looked ok with no obvious problems (I'm assuming that means it's less...
  21. I found this question and answer here at this website: Open Original Shared Link Do you have any gluten-free products? Although The Quaker Oats Company of Canada primarily produces products that are grain-based, we do have a few gluten-free products. Most flavours of Quaker
  22. I had my first colonoscopy yesterday. My GI doc wanted to see if there was anything else going on other than celiac disease since I am not improving on the gluten free diet. I may have something in addition to celiac disease. I hope not though! The colonoscopy was very painful and uncomfortable even though I was all drugged up (I had a sedative, a painkiller...
  23. I found this here Open Original Shared Link disodium guanylate: This is a flavor enhancer derived from fungal sources. disodium inosinate: This is a flavor enhancer, which may be non-vegetarian. Its sources are mineral, animal (meat/fish), vegetable, or fungal. Looks like disodium inosinate could be a problem. Like celiac3270 said, call the company...
  24. Celiac will cause villi damage and I think that gluten/wheat sensitivity just causes symptoms and not villi damage. I guess with enterolab, the closest you could get to diagnosing celiac disease would be a positive gene test AND a positive gluten sensitivity test. The only way you can be sure is a by having a positive biopsy. Celaic or not, your body...
  25. Unfourtunately my fatigue and energy levels are not better after being gluten free for almost 9 months. This could be due to celiac but it's doubtful since I've been on a strict gluten free diet for so long. I'm going in for a colonoscopy tommorrow to see if there is anything else going on (most of my other symptoms have not improved either ). However,...
