  1. Thanks Karen! I may be going to Toronto sometime this year. Have you tried the food there? Is it good? I ate gluten free at Swiss Chalet about 8-9 months ago and didn't get sick. They have a gluten free menu that they can give you when you order (At least where I'm from they do).
  2. Maybe your e-mail made them change their attidude towards celiacs and the gluten free diet!
  3. I also have to eat a lot, especially before and after exercising. I lose energy very quickly if I don't eat well before I excercise and I am always hungrey after I excercise. Aside from excercising, I find that I get hungrey very quickly after I eat a meal, and I have to eat again! (My mom is always commenting on how much I eat). Even though I eat a ton...
  4. Some people get very defence if you tell them that what they have (or a son/daughter has) isn't THAT bad. She just took what you said the wrong way because she probably doesn't understand celiac that well. Maybe try explaing in simple terms that celiac is a life long disease resulting in permanent intestinal damage if a gluten free diet is not enforced. Therefore...
  5. I also have a lot of nightmares. I'm not quite sure why though... maybe it's stress?
  6. Thanks celiac3270, I never thought of that. So basically if we ask specifically wheather it is coke or pepsi then we should be ok. Do you think a restaurant would call a no-name brand cola (or something else) pepsi or coke or is that illegal?
  7. I don't eat out at any fast food places. The only thing I will order is pop. Contamination is too risky. Even if they say "gluten free" they are many ways to make the food contaminated, -they can use the same utentils for touching gluten products and gluten free products -they can use the same oil for frying -most places wear gloves and if you ask for...
  8. It is very possible that she may have lactose intolerance and may have a worse reaction to yogurt than milk. Everyone is different.
  9. To be sure, call the company. It is possible the company uses different lines for wheat and non wheat products or maybe the wheat products are processed in a different room from the non-wheat products.
  10. It's nice to see a clear answer to the gluten question I'm going to try some fries!
  11. WOW! That would be amazing! Just imagine...
  12. That is very interesting, thanks for your input. Pancreatitis may be my problem... It seems to be the only thing that makes sense to me right now and the only thimg that explains of my continuing symptoms. I've been blaming some of my severe pain on gluten contamination, but I am so careful on eating gluten free that I am finding it very hard to believe...
  13. The gluten free diet can be expensive and it can also be inexpensive! Some inexpensive meal plans/ideas: Stir fry: frozen/unfrozen stir fry veggies, rice, gluten-free soy sauce (I use VH), corn starch, ginger root, garlic clove, ect. Meat + Potatoes + Veggies: unbreaded fish fillets cooked in heinz pure white vinegar and margerine, potatoe, and carrots...

  15. I have been on the gluten free diet for almost 11 months now. I have seen improvements since going gluten-free but a lot of symptoms have not gone away. My continuing symptoms include; diarrhea, upper midline stomach pain (sometimes severe), nausea (I need to take gravol so I don't vomit), bloating, gas, low energy, and fatigue. I feel that some of these...
  16. About 2-3 months before my diagnosis I was losing more hair than normal. I think hair loss in celiacs is a result of vitamin/mineral malabsorption due to villi damage in the small intestine. Once I started the diet it stopped.
  17. Mornings are ALWAYS the worst for me.
  18. Tinkyada brown rice pasta is the best in my opinion I've tried pasta with corn in it and it wasn't very good
  19. Yea! I don't think there are many people on this board in Maritimes.
  20. I am from Prince Edward Island, Canada.
  21. KLTerry, I get heart palpitations as well, once I got them so bad that I went into outpatients to make sure it was normal and that my heart was ok. I got so annoyed at the heart palpitations that I did a bunch of research on the net and found that, calcium, magnesium, and potassium may help. I've been taking calcium and magnesium supplements, a daily multi...
  22. I think you are right. It's all about the money.
  23. Right now I play indoor soccer once a week and I also go snowshoeing for about half an hour 1-3 times a week (There is tons of snow here where I live)! I try not to push myself since I still get sick some days and because my energy levels are low.
  24. mela14, I aggree! Thanks! For Breakfast I usually eat gluten-free Lifestream Natural Buckwheat Wildberry Waffles, an organic banana, and 100% grapejuice. For Lunch I usually have leftovers from supper the night before, rice cakes and Kraft peanut butter, EnviroKidz Organic Peanut Butter Panda Puffs Cereal (Plain), canned pears, organic...
