ARCHIVED Could This Be My Problem?
Carriefaith replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your symtoms are very typical of celiac disease and I have had most of them at one point or another. I would tell your doctor every single symtom that you have and say them in such a way that he/she will think of celiac disease first, before you mention it (This is my strategy and it usually works). For example, I would really emphasize the diarrehea... -

ARCHIVED Enviro-kidz Cereal...my Kids Hate It
Carriefaith replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
lol Tiffany, that was hilarious! I eat carbs for breakfast because they sit longer in my stomach (I have a super fast metabolism and am starving by 10:30), but I know what you mean. lol -
I also have been struggling. To be honest, I've been getting glutened about every week or two weeks for the past month or so. I am also extremely careful, but yet I still manage to get contaminated. I think part of the problem is living with people that eat gluten. It doesn't matter how careful I am, I always manage to get some gluten. It is everywhere in...

ARCHIVED Conagra Foods, Inc.
Carriefaith replied to Carriefaith's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks guys I have been glutened before by all beef Maple Leaf hot dogs which are gluten free but are potentially contaminated, that is why I am being very careful. -
ARCHIVED Conagra Foods, Inc.
Carriefaith posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I know that ConAgra Foods will list wheat in their ingredients, but I was wondering if they will also list any potential contact with wheat products. I've been trying to find a gluten free hot dog and since we don't have oscar myer here it has been hard. Butterball (ConAgra Foods) makes turkey hot dogs that look gluten-free. If anyone knows if they are... -
ARCHIVED Enviro-kidz Cereal...my Kids Hate It
Carriefaith replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You could try other foods for breakfast such as, scambled eggs and gluten-free toast, gluten-free waffles or pancakes with Aunt Jemima syrup, and fruit salad. * I can buy 2 brands of gluten-free waffles in my local grocery store in the health food section -
ARCHIVED Celiac Friendly Restaurants In Canada

Glad we could help! WOW Do you have directions to this place? I'm going to be living in the Toronto area within the next year and would love to eat there! Thanks! Thanks everyone for your replies on restaurants in BC. I will keep those places in mind if I travel there in the future -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Or Not?
Carriefaith replied to Rachel--24's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was partially sedated for both, but I was awake and fully aware of everything. Sedation was an option for the endoscopy, some people do it with no sedation at all. -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Or Not?
Carriefaith replied to Rachel--24's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I guess this a decision that only you and your doctor can make. Is there any way that the gene test was not accurate? Also, I believe that I have heard that a small percentage of people can have celiac without the gene, but I could be wrong (someone correct me on this if I am wrong). It's not that bad, the colonoscopy is WAY worse in my opinion,... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Or Not?
Carriefaith replied to Rachel--24's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The tissue transglutamase test is highly specific for celiac disease, so if you're results were positive than you would most likely have celiac disease. If you have been mostly gluten-free for 4 months than a biopsy could come back false negative. You would have to go back on gluten for a few months if you wanted to damage the villi, but I don't think this... -
ARCHIVED Just Saw My Dr
Carriefaith replied to JLK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm from Canada so I don't really understand the US health care system, but if there is no way that the testing can be done, than I would just go gluten free. If the testing can be done in the near future, than I think that it is worth waiting for to get the testing done and maybe getting a second opinion, like I mentioned earlier. But then again, I'm not... -
ARCHIVED Please Help Me >_<
Carriefaith replied to tama-chan's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you are gluten free right now then you could get false negative results on the small intestine biopsy. You have to be consuming gluten for the villi to get damaged. If they take a lot of biopsies, then they will most likey find damage. Villi damage can be patchy so they could miss the damage if only 1 or 2 biopsies are taken, so make sure you request at... -
ARCHIVED Just Saw My Dr
Carriefaith replied to JLK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
hmmmm... If I were in your situation, I would get a second opinion on this. Has he tested you for celiac disease or anything else before he made a diagnosis of leaky gut syndrome? -
Welcome Here is a link to some safe and forbidden foods: https://www.celiac.com/st_main.html?p_catid...-32105594718.60 Celiac and Lupus are both autoimmune diseases, and they are both associated with the same gene. ARCHIVED I Want To Gain My Weight Back!
Carriefaith replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
The lactose intolerance should go away once the villi heal in the intestine. The enzyme that is required to digest lactose is located in the tips of the villi. When the villi are damaged due to gluten, the person will be lactose intolerant until the villi heal. -
I eat out sometimes, but I don't make a habit out of it. For dinners with friends, I try to convince them to go to a place with a gluten free menu or a place that I know is safe. When I eat out with co-workers or business it is usually a very expensive place that isn't busy and doesn't mind accomodating the diet. For vacations, I buy some stuff and eat it...

ARCHIVED I Want To Gain My Weight Back!
Carriefaith replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have always been very thin, but when I got really sick I lost about 10 pounds in one week, which put me underweight. The gluten-free diet fixed the problem though and I gained my weight back. -
When I was at my worst, I had above average hair loss. The hair loss cleared up after I was on the diet for awhile.

ARCHIVED Please Help Me >_<
Carriefaith replied to tama-chan's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would ask your doctor for specific numbers here and what tests were done. Your doctor is being very vague. Very mildly elevated results can still mean that you may have celiac. My grandmother had very slightly elevated blood test results and she had intestinal damage. Some people can have no symptoms at all and still have celiac disease. I know someone... -
ARCHIVED National Celiac Conference In Toronto
Carriefaith replied to Carriefaith's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
ooo, that is pricy I don't know about the US, but plane tickets to Toronto within Canada can be very cheap (depending from where you're flying from) like under $100 if you look in the right places and the right times. I've just heard this from people though, so unfourtunatly I don't know many details. I hope you find a good deal -
This is my favorite list of symptoms: Open Original Shared Link Here are a list of the symtoms that I have had from gluten: Hair loss Extreme fatigue Lack of energy/stamina Brain Fog - or what I call pure stupidity Joint pain - mainly in the knees and hips Chicken pox like dots on the skin Gas Bloating Diarrhea Stomach pain (mild to severe) Weight...

This is what I think... I've posted this once before: She (the author) leads people to believe that the gluten-free diet cures celiac disease. Personally, I think she is using the word "cure" in the wrong way. I think, or I hope, she means that the SCD make celiacs feel 100% better, which is great. But using the word "cure" like that will mislead a lot...
