  1. Diapers! Now there's an option I hadn't considered. (Just kidding.)
  2. Live From The Front (minus the really gory details)- I just drank that mixture about ten minutes ago. I read the directions wrong. There was more to drink than I had thought. I seriously didn't think it was going to stay down, especially since I was drinking it on an empty stomach. Thankfully, it did stay down, but the sounds coming from "down below...
  3. Oh, my gosh, that is terrible. I hope they can get all of that under control for you. Let us know how it all turns out.
  4. Hi, First of all, your babies are just beautiful. Aren't kids a joy? My one and only baby is 18 and leaving for college in a month. Poor mom is very sad to see him go. As for the German, I don't speak it, but I checked around the forum and found something that might be of help. Go to the heading that says, "Gluten-Free International Room (Outside...
  5. I don't know much about this, but why did the doctor say that he wants to do another scope?
  6. I have a colonoscopy tomorrow at 2:00. Today I am on the clear liquid diet. I will drink my first glass of the "yucky stuff" at 7:00 tonight, followed by the clear liquids. In the morning, I will drink the second glass of the stuff, followed by more clear liquids. The next time I have this procedure, I will just tell the scheduler that I want to have...
  7. Suzie, I am so sorry for your loss. Brenda
  8. I asked for reassurance from more than one doctor, and they told me that the IBS was harmless and would not damage my digestive tract. That makes me so angry. I had pain so bad that I was doubled over and would have D until there was nothing left inside me. I would be so exhausted afterwards and so sore. I can't believe that I had to figure this out myself...
  9. One of the first traumas of going gluten free was finding out that most licorice has wheat in it. I have always loved licorice to the point of near addiction, although it was not kind to me. Well, I was assuming that I would never have another piece of licorice again when I discovered those amazing Scottie dogs!!!!!! When I buy them I have to pace...
  10. I'm bored, too. I have been a vegetarian since 1977 and have never felt deprived until I had to give up wheat, barley, oats, rye, and dairy. I will reintroduce the dairy very gradually in October when it will have been six months since I gave up both gluten and dairy products. I want my body to heal for now, and most sources say to give up the dairy for...
  11. I used to sleepwalk. A number of years ago I broke my left middle finger while sleepwalking. I am deathly afraid of bees, and I was dreaming that bees were coming in the window air conditioner over the bed. In the dream it was the middle of the day, but actually it was the middle of the night. Anyhow, as the bees came at the back of my head, I dove off...
  12. I'm going in for a colonoscopy on Monday. The pain in my lower left side occurs after any large bowel movement. It's a burning sensation almost like a raw skin area that has been disturbed. It usually lasts all day, and the pain becomes more of an ache and goes into my back and down the inside of my left leg. It's not unbearable, but it is uncomfortable...
  13. Yep. I'm old, so I also got the "nervous stomach" diagnosis initially, followed by the ulcer diagnosis (the doctor was sure there must be an ulcer in there somewhere, but didn't actually check for it), and then the IBS diagnosis. Even though I had numerous other symptoms that should've tipped of these ignorant doctors, I still ended up having to diagnose...
  14. I used to have such admiration for doctors until I found out that I had been misdiagnosed for 42 years!!! "Toddler's diarrhea" is just as lame as the term the doctor's gave my parents in 1965 when I was diagnosed with "nervous stomach" at the age of 7. Of course, I was nervous! I was in serious pain! Who wouldn't be nervous? I don't know what to tell...
  15. A couple of years ago, before I realized I had a gluten problem, I took an antibiotic (can't remember the name, but I sure wish I could), and I swear to God, I thought my insides were going to explode! My abdomen just swelled bigger and bigger and bigger until I was looking seriously pregnant. The gas and flatulance were nightmarish, so bad that I couldn...
  16. I eat 5 regular Tums every day for calcium. They're on a list of gluten free OTC medications. I never take the Smoothies. Am I okay with the regular ones?
  17. Is there any difference at all in the severity of symptoms between gluten sensitivity and celiac disease?
  18. I don't know if you and your friends are amenable to going to a vegan restaurant, but there's one in Berkeley that is gluten free. It's called Cafe Gratitude. We went there in April about a week before I found out I was gluten intolerant/celiac. I remember looking at the waitress and asking, "Why would you not use wheat in your entrees?" Anyhow here...
  19. The gluten free diet has helped my ADD tremendously. That is one of the biggest benefits. I am so much more focused and alert than I've ever been before. I'm not saying the gluten free diet is the answer in every case of ADD, but it has certainly made a big difference in my life.
  20. What were your speech issues? Did you have trouble with kind of scrambling up your words sometimes? That's what I have. I also stumble very easily, sometimes when there is nothing there to trip over, and am basically very uncoordinated. (Of course, I may just be a klutz.)
  21. Hi, I'm sorry you're going through all of this. I just figured out in April that I have either celiac disease or a gluten intolerance after 42 years of symptoms- depression, diarrhea, vomiting, ADD, mouth sores, myoclonic jerks, extreme amounts of gas, etc. Then in October 2006, I began to have significant pains in my muscles/joints, extreme fatigue...
  22. It can be a very isolating diet at times. I really miss my favorite foods and favorite restaurants. Getting a salad at a restaurant where I used to order a calzone or a gourmet veggie burger or spaghetti just doesn't quite do it for me. I try not to dwell on it, but I agree with you, the fact that I can never eat these foods again sometimes makes me very...
  23. I love the gluten free bagels and the black licorice that is shaped like Scottie dogs.
