  1. Ask your doctor if he will prescribe the strips explaining to him that you strongly suspect that your having blood sugar related problems. Your doctor may or may not comply. I did multiple readings for a while after my doctor falsely diagnosed me with diabetes when I went to him for help after a severe glutening. Turns out being glutened has effects on my...
  2. It can take a while to come to terms with having celiac and it is tough when your a college student. One thing for me that may or may not pertain to you is that I get bouts of depression when I get glutened. Could you have gluten sneaking in? A food and mood diary might be helpful in pinpointing if there is something that links the episodes. Sometimes it...
  3. I do also, Thai Kitchen, and have never had an issue with them. I like angel hair pasta and like that they cook really fast and are good with even just butter on them. My favorite 'comfort' food.
  4. If you went through withdrawl that is a sign that you do need to be on the diet.
  5. Have you tried eliminating dairy and soy? Quite a few of us have issues with those. I didn't heal fully until I eliminated soy.
  6. Just as with everything else I try my best to buy stuff made here. It can be really hard though. For example just try to find a can of mushrooms that aren't from china. Anyway I do tend to trust our processors more than ones from some of the overseas countries. That said I don't do any products made on shared lines if I can help it.
  7. Have you eliminated the possibility of other intolerances as well as being very careful about cross contamination? The most common other intolerances are dairy and soy.
  8. Your doctors didn't know what they were doing. Here is what the NIH has to say about how to biopsy properly. Not only do they need to biopsy the skin next to the lesion they have to use a special procedure to find what they need to find. Open Original Shared Link "A skin biopsy is the key tool in confirming a diagnosis of DH. Doctors take a skin sample...
  9. Did you mean 'false negatives are common-'? False positives are virtually unheard of.
  10. I got a reply from Hornsby's stating that it tests out at less than 20 ppm. The same sort of response we get from Rice Dream. Since I am very sensitive I will pass and stick with the Woodchuck.
  11. A week is likely not long enough for anything to show up in your blood work. Usually we have to be back on it for at least a couple months and even then we can have a false negative. The week is letting you know that your system doesn't want gluten but to get a positive test you have to go much longer to redamage yourself enough to possibly show it. The choice...
  12. Yea sweet potatos are really good for you. Lots of vitamins and they also have both soluable and insoluable fiber and are used a for centurys in Oriental medicine for regulating the digestive system.
  13. Did your doctor biopsy? The villi are not visible with the naked eye. If your villi are still absent or severely blunted you are likely still getting gluten somewhere. It can take some time for us to heal. In rare cases folks can have something called refractory sprue where they don't heal even on the diet. Many of them are found to not be as gluten free...
  14. Keep in mind that if you take a vitamin with folate that can give the B12 a higher reading than you really have. We can also be deficient in B12 for quite a while before it shows up in blood work. If you have kept your tests handy also look for a decrease in levels over time. If your levels are below 500 it is a good idea to supplement. B12 is a vitamin that...
  15. I think a lot of us deal with this especially at first. For me it did level off eventually. If your not already do take a good gluten free multi and make sure you are getting enough protein and good fats in your diet. To handle the craving for sweets without going overboard I often make stuff like a 'personal' cobbler. I take a single serving size of a...
  16. Hi welcome to the board. Just a quick note, if your symptoms are resolving on the diet stick with it no matter what the test results are. Hope your feeling great soon.
  17. Start a B&B and invite them for a two week free stay? There was a naturopath in my area who used to invite people into her home on the lake, for a very high price of course. She would educate them and feed them during that time. Unfortunately though unless people are willing to take that first step there isn't much you can do. As my allergist told me...
  18. I am not sure what mannose is but mannitol is a sugar alcohol. I don't think it is present naturally but is used as a sugar replacement. Mannitol can cause D and upset stomach when eaten in excess or by folks sensitive to sugar alcohols.
  19. False negatives are far from uncommon. More important is if the diet helps with your issues. Don't sweat the one cookie but be aware it may be a day or two before you feel the effects. You may want to stick with the diet for a couple months, strictly and then do a challenge where you eat gluten 2 or 3 times a day for a week and see if you react. Sometimes...
  20. I can't answer for you but I know in my case the inflammation did have effects on my lungs. Prediagnosis I had chronic bronchitis and asthma. Both were considered to be a result of my smoking. I haven't had to use my inhalor or my singulair since I was diagnosed and my yearly bout of bronchitis has not appeared since either. In fact I haven't even had a cold...
  21. You may be casien intolerant which would not show up on an allergy panel. For the dry skin, are you getting enough good fats in your diet? Are you on any medication? Many can make the mouth dry. It is winter and I find I dry out a lot from having the heat on. For the dry skin I find cocoa butter or shea butter to be good. I get the pure forms in a jar.
  22. I would never have been diagnosed if not for a very savvy elderly allergist who put me on an elimination diet. Was I thrilled to have to eat only 5 foods I hated for weeks before adding something back in, no. Am I really glad I did it? You bet as it is the reason I am alive today. I never would have been diagnosed as all doctors looked at my false negative...
  23. It should help with the skin issues, at least it did for my little dog. Don't know if it will help with the weight but time will tell.
  24. Some of us will have false negatives on blood work. I am one of them and it delayed my diagnosis for a very, very long time. Glad to hear your getting back on the diet and do be very strict with it and watch out for cross contamination. By the by can't say it will be the case for you but my BS issues were directly related to gluten.
  25. You should find a different milk alternative. Rice Dream uses barley in the processing but are not required to put this on the label. Pacific brand or Wegmans if you have one close both make a safe rice milk. Make sure you are looking for cereals without barley malt as well as wheat if you are not already.
