  1. Cornstarch is gluten free. If the label lists dairy then it would not be lactose free unless it says lactose free. Since I think dairy is one of the big 8 allergans it will be on the label if it is in the product.
  2. Open Original Shared Link 1. Which of your products are gluten free? The following Old Dutch products are Gluten-Free: Regular Potato Chips Roasted Garlic & Cheddar Potato chips Ketchup Potato Chips Sour Cream & Onion Potato Chips Dill Pickle Potato Chips RESTAURANTE Tortilla Chips (all flavours except Multigrain) BBQ Corn Chips...
  3. Has it been a while since you excercised hard? You may have simply over done it. It could perhaps be related to being intolerant of dairy and I think it is a good idea to avoid it for a bit if you haven't had this happen before and it is new since you reintroduced dairy. It would also be a good idea to have your doctor check your blood pressure and mention...
  4. With all the health issues you are having, and considering you have had a positive blood test I would go gluten free strictly. The biopsies have a rather high rate of false negatives. The blood tests have a high rate of false negatives also but your test was positive. Some doctors are now skipping the biopsy when the person has a positive blood test. I...
  5. While you may also have an allergy to wheat what is more likely happening is your breathing in the dusty wheat. DH is an antibody reaction in the skin which happens when the gluten contacts mucous membranes in the nose or eyes which then cause the antibodies to flare. You need to make sure you wash well after feeding the animals. Also wear a dust mask and...
  6. A lot of folks like the Tinkyada pasta although my favorite is Thai Kitchen rice pasta (found in the oriental food aisle). Do start to check the pasta about half way through the cooking time as sometimes for me it seems to cook much faster than the box says. I like Kinnickinnick pizza crusts at 4 to a box for about $9. Their bread is also okay in a pinch...
  7. It is possible that the chili was CC'd. I used to work for a place that made chili and it wasn't unusual to catch someone dipping a cracker into it. Gross I know and strictly against the rules but some people think rules are for everyone but them. You mention looking for 'wheat' on labels be sure you are looking for barley and malt on them also. The advice...
  8. I don't know much about the thyroid so someone else will have to answer that. As to the folate and B12, with a high folate that can make your B12 reading even higher than it really is. Are you taking a supplement with folate? If so you might want to let that go for a while. You should be taking a sublingual B12 if you are not already. That should help with...
  9. You really need to stop sharing that toaster and take as much care as you can with cross contamination. You can pick up one that is for only your use for about $10. The CC is likely the cause of your random stomach issues. I am one of the rare celiacs that reacts to distilled gluten. If I go out I go with wine or I ask for a bottle of some kind of soda...
  10. I would look for a gluten free shampoo and conditioner as it may take a while for low levels to catch up to you. Your partner who eats gluten do they brush their teeth before kissing? That could CC you. Are you reading the ingredients on the supplements? Some will say gluten free but still have wheat and barley grass which are really not safe for us.
  11. Gosh I wish neuros were more celaic savvy in this country. Mine thought I had MS also. If you can accept that you need to be strictly gluten free even if the GI tests are negative then go ahead and stop the gluten. If you really need for the GI doctor to have the best chance of saying 'yes you had positive biopsies' then stay on it for the next week and a...
  12. Biopsies can have false negatives. You have postive blood work. That means your body is making antibodies to gluten. Eventually, if not already, your brain, liver, gallbladder and other organs can be impacted. Antibodies are an equal opportunity destroyer and there is no way of knowing what system will be attacked. You need to be gluten free unless you someday...
  13. While you are switching them over to keep them happy and from possibly getting upset tummys at first do a mix. Start with 3/4 old food 1/4 new for a few days then go to 1/2 and 1/2 for a few more then 3/4 new and 1/4 old and then finally to all the new. Cats can be finicky and doing the change gradually will help them adjust to the new food. Good luck with...
  14. You should read this post. This persons experience is not unusual. Following the diet doesn't make BS issues worse, it often helps them.
  15. Happy Birthday. Now you know for sure and hopefully you will have lots of healthy and happy gluten-free birthdays in the future.
  16. Have you tried some fruit or a piece of candy followed by a protein like a nut butter? Gluten foods aren't the only way to raise you levels quickly. Also once you heal a bit on the diet that in itself may help with the BS regulation. Has your doctor referred you to a diabetes educator? They can sometimes be helpful. Also if you are on a med talk to your doctor...
  17. Test is easy no prep needed. I do have osteoporosis and they tried to push meds on me. I declined as I don't consider them safe and some research does state they are not good for celiacs. My doctor advised getting adaquate calcium and vitamin D and weight bearing excercise. You may want to see a recent thread on Fosamax and read all you can about those drugs...
  18. You may want to try dropping the dairy and the processed for a bit and seeing if that helps. Go with whole naturally gluten free foods. Do you take any meds at all? If you do check with the maker to be sure they are safe. You mention that your supplements say gluten free on the bottle, do be sure to read all the ingredients as some will say gluten free but...
  19. If you feel like crying let yourself cry. It's okay to be sad. (((((((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))))))))))
  20. In addition to the withdrawl you need to get your own dedicated cutting board. You also should get a new colander, replace scratched non-stick pans and avoid baking with wheat flour for others. It can take some time to heal. Hang in there and I hope you are feeling better soon.
  21. It can take some time to heal and ups and downs are not uncommon. Do make sure to check and make sure all meds you are taking are gluten free and take precautions against cross contamination. Go with whole unprocessed foods at first and it is helpful to also drop dairy. I hope your feeling better soon.
  22. In addition to the home test do ask your doctor to do a celiac panel as well as checking your vitamin and mineral levels as those are often low for us. Keep eating gluten until your testing is finished then when all testing is over give the diet a try no matter what the results as false negatives are not uncommon.
  23. Wait until you are done with all the testing you choose to do before you go gluten free. Do keep in mind also that even on a full gluten diet you can still have a false negative with testing.
  24. Have you sat down and talked with the SSI folks? It is my understanding that you don't have to have been disabled for a full year, you just have to be expected to be disabled for a year. Your doctors have to back you up of course. Almost everyone is turned down the first time they apply so if you are turned down apply again. If you do get disability it will...
  25. Taking a regular vitamin with the RDA is not a problem. I was cautioning about taking mega doses of copper but I didn't really make that clear. Some vitamins like B12 and C for example are fine to take large doses of while others like iron or copper can build up to dangerous levels. Sorry I wasn't more clear about what I meant.
