  1. If you were diagnosed with celiac as a child you are still celiac. It used to be thought that celiac was just a childs disease and that they outgrew it. We now know that is not the case. Doctors call the period you went through in your teens the 'honeymoon' period. You were not symptomatic but it was still doing damage. You asked in another post if you...
  2. 211 is quite high if it was a fasting blood sugar. Did they do an A1C test on you? That measures your average BS over a three month period. Your blood sugar can be raised by being ill, were you sick when you took the test? I would pick up a book on the glycemic index of foods and pick from ones that are low index. I would also cut out all high fructose...
  3. Actually they are not. See the last line on this. Open Original Shared Link Canker Sore Causes No one knows what causes canker sores. The vast majority of people who develop canker sores do not have another problem as the cause. The disease is suspected to result from a reaction of the immune system. Additional causative factors may include...
  4. You should get a copy of the actual lab results. Those will show the reference range. Even a low positive is a positive. Was blood work done to measure things like your iron, ferritin, B12, etc? Sometimes we stop being able to absorb nutrients even while our GI system seems to be fine.
  5. If you have only been gluten free for a week and then went back on gluten you could most likely get bloodwork done soon. I doubt those antibodies would totally disappear, if you are one of us who shows up on blood work, that quickly. Do be sure to get an actual copy of the test results. Some doctors will call a low positive a negative. That said if...
  6. I can't tell you much about the test results but would suggest that perhaps a referral to an endocrinologist might be helpful.
  7. It is not uncommon for celiacs to get mouth ulcers and other oral issues. I don't know about whether they would be associated with candida.
  8. I am so glad he is doing well. It can be hard to diagnose with young ones. Make sure you get the rest of the family tested.
  9. If you eat them daily perhaps you might want to stop for a couple of weeks, see if things resolve and then add them back in and see what happens. Go over everything that may have changed in the last 3 or 4 weeks, are you using a different shampoo or conditioner, soap, lotion, have you been working on art projects, have you got pets eating gluten food, if...
  10. Do you seem to be having CC issues? I don't know what the glue is derived from but they do now make a nut mix with rolled oats. I personally don't tolerate Planters nuts, I am fine with the gluten-free nuts that Wegmans puts out so I know it is not a general nut issue.
  11. You have the right to be angry at this doctor and I doubt you have offended anyone. This is usually a safe place to vent as most of us have been through the same hoops. So if I read this right the doctor didn't even do a draw for celiac tests? Although I did notice you stated you already had a postive test, the IGG. Did they do an endo after seeing...
  12. Is there any way you can get your doctor to look for celiac first rather than last? Have you told him about the good response you had to the diet? I would insist on making celiac the first rather than the last priority. The diet may resolve a lot of issues and negate the need for further testing once it is decided you need the diet. At the very least...
  13. This was my first thought. Is your parents home gluten-free?
  14. "I recently decided that I want to get tested, for my sanity .. Which I know requires a gluten challenge at this point. So I started introducing gluten into my diet, and although I've had some mild abdominal discomfort (incl diah/consti) ,I felt foggy here and there, and very very tired, I really haven't had any symptoms....Does this mean it's not gluten...
  15. I had severe nerve damage due to celiac and this was one of the issues that finally got me diagnosed. Do keep the appointment with the specialist, I saw a GI surgeon. What he did was send me to Physical Therapist to see if she could help before he was going to do surgery. For me it got to the point where it wasn't just that I couldn't hold it, I couldn...
  16. It is very common for tooth enamel in celiacs to be defective. In some countries dentists are one of the first to suggest testing when they see thin enamel and lots of cavities. By the way there really is no such thing as TMI here. The first thing you should do before restricting your diet is go to your doctor and ask for a full celiac panel including...
  17. There are many different presentations to gluten induced illness. For some gluten intolerance is simply celiac that has not yet or even will not ever have serious enough gut effects to fit the classic celiac diagnosis. DH is an example, not all folks with DH develop villi damage but they are still recognized as celiac. For some of us gluten's impact on...
  18. The stool test is a test to look for the antibodies same as the blood test. The difference is they look for them in the stool. Enterolab can not diagnose celiac but they can tell a person if they are making antibodies to the suspect item. They also can test for antibodies to casien, soy and egg and you can also get genetic testing done through them. ...
  19. As you said Enterolab looks for antibodies to gluten and if desired, casien, eggs and soy. If your body is producing antibodies to a substance that means it is trying to protect you from that substance. Someone who is not reactive will not produce antibodies. Enterolab does not diagnose celiac, they simply tell you if your body is reacting to gluten...
  20. Jen do you feed them food with gluten in it? I had issues for months with mystery glutenings until I switched mine to a gluten free food. Check the pet food and litters.
  21. Sometimes the best thing we can do is to be super strict at first and then when we are feeling well we can add stuff back in and see if there is a change. Some of us don't have any issues with using topical gluten products and some of us do. That is really evident in the responses. I do agree that gluten can't be absorbed into the body through intact...
  22. It is true that iron is not something you want to oversupplement as it can be toxic and build up in organs. If you are not postmenapausal then taking a vitamin with iron is not going to hurt you IMHO. If you are postmenapausal someone I always found helpful with testing for this was my OB/GYN. If your not postmenapausal it is not uncommon for a woman to...
  23. Good suggestion. It is one food per week at least 3 times a day in as pure a form as possible. Intolerances can at times need a build up period of 3 days to a week before the reaction is felt. Another person who can help with an elimination diet is an allergist, which some folks may find is easier to get the insurance company to cover. Do call and...
  24. I do not know if I am IGA deficient. If I am none of the scores of doctors I saw ever mentioned it. They also did not mention that up to 30% of celiacs test negative on the blood tests and that I should try the diet anyway for a while. There are also times when people will register a very low positive and doctors will report it as a negative. That...
  25. Iodine will activate the antibodies. We need to avoid iodine, at least at first, to enable the antibodies to leave the skin. It only needs to be avoided by those with DH.
