My shopping list is usually pretty simple but may give you some ideas. Long cook white and/or brown rice. Lundenburg wild rice - they make a lot of nice kinds and keep well in the fridge Pacific Foods broths, these are in the organic dept and are both gluten and soy free Delmonte or Wegmans brand canned tomatoes- diced, crushed and sauce The Delmonte...

ARCHIVED Enterolab Results In!
ravenwoodglass replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your doctor may eventually see the turn around in your health and acknowledge that you are at least gluten intolerant. It seems odd that this might help but if you husband can go with you to your next appointment and talk to the doctor about the changes he has seen that could also be very helpful. Sometimes frankly doctors don't seem to believe women and... -
ARCHIVED Dapsone Or gluten-free?
ravenwoodglass replied to J in Cincy's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
It will speed up your healing and the exit of the antibodies under the skin if you can go with a pure of a diet as you can. Try to eat as little processed food as possible, the one sure way to avoid CC. Also be aware that many items that are supposed to be gluten free are heavily CC'd. A prime example of this is Lay's products. They have a list of gluten... -
ARCHIVED Strange White Object In Stool
ravenwoodglass replied to julirama723's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Glad to hear he is seeing you soon. If your still worried you might want to pick up a strainer or slotted spoon at a thrift of dollar store and keep it and a disposable plastic container near the toilet. That way if it happens again you can bring the unidentified object into the office. The keratosis pilaris may very well be related. My DS had these... -
ARCHIVED Strange White Object In Stool
ravenwoodglass replied to julirama723's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Usually passing a stone is VERY painful. I would not be unduly concerned about the mystery object. It may have been a bit of mucus, you are doing a challenge and your body may be trying to protect itself and excess mucous production would be one way. If you become severely ill with the challenge do make sure you let the doctor know. Some will diagnose... -
ARCHIVED Still Having Leg Pains, When Will They Go Away?
ravenwoodglass replied to LoisArbuckle's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
What type of pain is it? Nerve related pain may be helped by taking a sublingual B12. If it is more a stiffness a referral from your doctor to a physical therapist may provide relief. Something that also may give you some relief is acupuncture, I was really surprised how much it helped with my arthritis pain before I was diagnosed and the diet took care... -

You want a sublingual B12, your going to get that as a seperate tablet. I use Country Life 3000mcg but there are others that are also choline free. -
ARCHIVED Which Turkey's Are Gluten Free?
ravenwoodglass replied to CeliacStinksKLS's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I agree heartily with this, natural flavors are one of the biggest risks on our labels and is where you may find barley hidden. Instead look for a turkey that is just that turkey with no broth or flavorings. -
ARCHIVED Which Turkey's Are Gluten Free?
ravenwoodglass replied to CeliacStinksKLS's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Many turkeys have a broth added, that broth can contain barley hidden in natural flavors. It is true that if there is wheat in the broth that it will be listed but that is not the case for barley or malt which is the bigger risk. If you go for a turkey that is not prebasted and does not have broth on the label you should be fine. -
ARCHIVED Autoimmune Disease. Seizures W/ Celiac
ravenwoodglass replied to Ms. Skinny Chic's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
The UBO's were diagnostic of my ataxia along with my symptoms, like the loss of my reflexes, partial paralysis of my legs, nerve conduction tests where they insert needles in the muscles and then use electricity to measure nerve response showed that my right leg was basically dead. Most important was the resolution of most issues once I had been on the diet... -
ARCHIVED Doc Appt. Yesterday, Met My New Gastroenterologist
ravenwoodglass replied to julirama723's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You need to ask your doctor why he prescribed the Flagyl. You have the right to know what bacteria was cultured to make this drug needed. Also make really sure the one he prescribed is gluten free, I was prescribed this once and the pharm had to order it special for me as the usual brand they had in stock was not safe. I know the low IGA can cause a... -
ARCHIVED Frozen Or Shelf-stable gluten-free Entrees
ravenwoodglass replied to Hummingbird4's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
In addition to the shelf stable Hormel stuff already mention they make main dish meats that you can find in the prepared meats section of the butcher dept. The Italian Roast AuJus is really good I had that the other night with some Paradise Valley Instant Mashed Potatoes. I have found also that those potatoes left over make a good 'crust' for a meat pie... -
ARCHIVED Autoimmune Disease. Seizures W/ Celiac
ravenwoodglass replied to Ms. Skinny Chic's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
It's not to late, don't lose hope. I had by the time I was diagnosed. Noone in my family ever expected me to get any better, least of all me. It will take a very long time to heal and you may not notice the changes at first but you should heal. We don't always get full resolution of the ataxia, I still have some balance issues, but we can heal to the... -
ARCHIVED Autoimmune Disease. Seizures W/ Celiac
ravenwoodglass replied to Ms. Skinny Chic's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
What has your neurologist said about your new symptoms? Do you remember what they called those lesions? Celiac disease that impacts neurologically causes lesions similar to the demylinating lesions found with MS. The lesions are referred to as UBOs or unidentified bright objects. They look like a white spot on the MRI. Many of the issues you describe... -
ARCHIVED Celebrex
ravenwoodglass replied to TinkerbellSwt's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The doctor won't know. The best person to ask is your pharmacist or the company that makes the drug. Your pharmacist can give you the printout from the company and the contact info will be on it. -
I had DH outbreaks on my face. Most lesions were on my arms and legs in the bends of the joints, the back of my neck and scalp, the palms of my hands and when I was a child the blisters covered me basically head to toe. They were very unpleasant and disfiguring. My DS pointed out a couple of years ago that although I have mirrors all over the house all...

ARCHIVED Wheat Grass & Barley Grass?
ravenwoodglass replied to Live2BWell's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I also have DH and I also react to wheat grass and barley grass. There are folks that say they are safe because they don't contain the protein, they say the same about wheat germ oil. My body disagrees strongly. Sounds like yours does also. -
ARCHIVED Kind Of Confused, Could Use Some Expert Help
ravenwoodglass replied to brendab's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You should ask your doctor for copies of all lab work, actual copies not just his findings. On those will be the reference range for the tests. With celiac testing a low positive will sometimes be deemed a negative by the doctors, it is not. Even one point into the positive range is positive. It is a good idea to keep copies of all labs done. One of the... -
ARCHIVED Green's Quest Tripel Blonde Ale
ravenwoodglass replied to happygirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Wegmans has a couple of these beers so I decided to splurge and bought a bottle which I opened and tried last night. At six dollars a bottle I was expecting something tasty and was really looking forward to having a glass after dinner. Unfortunately I found this beer to have a really nasty taste to it with a very odd aftertaste. I took 2 sips and dumped... -
Benefiber
ravenwoodglass replied to darlindeb25's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Unfortunatlely doctors are not as up on what is safe for celiacs as would be desired. I would go with Benefibers own warning, repeated here with the important part for us in bold. There is a world of fiber out there that is safe and is easy to get, tasty to consume and has no gluten grains. 16. Does the new ingredient, Wheat Dextrin, have any ill effects... -
ARCHIVED Crazy Question! Service Dogs For Celics?
ravenwoodglass replied to StephWright's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Interesting thought. If dogs can be trained to sniff out cancer cells, well who knows. I would imagine they could be trained to sniff out gluten just like you would train for drugs etc. I would pick a breed that has is known to have a very sensitive nose. If your successful do let us know. I would love to have a dog I could take into a restaurant and... -
ARCHIVED New Here 12 Yr Old With Eating Disorder And Positive Igg
ravenwoodglass replied to desccc's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Those are valid reasons for not doing the biopsy and with her blood test results, as another poster stated, the diagnosis is pretty certain. I would agree that yes this is a good enough to take all gluten out. Please don't give her the Glutenzyme, it will not stop the autoimmune process, and also do test all other family members even if they seem asymptomatic... -
ARCHIVED Is Anyone Else Hla-db1 0202; Hla-dq 2,3 (subtype 2,9)?
ravenwoodglass replied to Amy Hull Brown's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am DQ9 and a diagnosed celiac. I didn't look for what my genes were until 5 years after diagnosis. I had DH, ataxia and other neuro issues for over 25 years before the GI stuff hit but once the D hit it stayed for 15 years before I was finally diagnosed celiac in the end stages of the disease. IF they had diagnosed me before the GI stuff got severe I... -
ARCHIVED Can Someone Help Me Sort Out What's What?
ravenwoodglass replied to DarkIvy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes it is not only reasonable it is vital, IMHO. You have been through a lot lately and you will heal the quickest by doing just that, focusing on your diet and getting some much deserved and needed rest. Once you have healed you will be able to get back to things. I hope you are feeling better soon. -
ARCHIVED New Here 12 Yr Old With Eating Disorder And Positive Igg
ravenwoodglass replied to desccc's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Has your doctor referred you to a GI for biopsy and celiac confirmation? I have to wonder why this 'doctor' is telling her to take Glutenzyme instead of going gluten free. I don't think that was very good advice at all. Instead of giving her the supplement she should be avoiding gluten. One thing that is seen with some celiacs is the almost total lack...
