ravenwoodglass posted a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I just learned that my friend lost his fiancee. She passed 5 days after the long awaited birth of their first child. I can only imagine the pain he must be feeling right now. His name is Dan and if you all could pray for him to find the strength he needs get through this tragedy it would be appretiated. -

ARCHIVED I'm Gonna See An Allergist Soon
ravenwoodglass replied to mr. moore's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Forging a doctors signature on something could get you in serious trouble. Is there a reason you don't want to get the celiac panel or see a GI doctor? An allergist is really not likely to be able to diagnose you easily. The elimination diet he will have you do will take months and if you think your diet is restrictive now wait till you get your starting... -
ARCHIVED Shrinking
ravenwoodglass replied to minton's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am so sorry you have had to live with this pain. The pain combined with the skrinkage really IMHO needs to be investigated more throughly. Have you consulted with a rheumatologist? I would insist on finding the cause of this if possible as it seems to be escalating. You won't get any lectures from me about the vicodin. There is nothing wrong with pain... -
ARCHIVED Shrinking
ravenwoodglass replied to minton's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Have you asked for a referral to an endocrinolgist? I would. Unless your doctor has done xrays to check your bone age he really can't sure if you growth plates have fused yet. The fact that this is so pronounced also causes me to urge you strongly to get checked for osteoporosis. You also need to be evaluated for scoliosis or spinal curvature, something... -
ARCHIVED Sobering Article
ravenwoodglass replied to Jestgar's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
It is very sobering. And those are only the folks who access the services there are many more that are in need that don't get counted. I find stuff sometimes at 2 for 1 prices, these are great for donating as I don't feel the crunch in my pocketbook. Food banks are desperate right now in many areas and don't forget it is not just food that they need. ... -
ARCHIVED What's Up With My Symptoms Getting Worse?
ravenwoodglass replied to gluten Tag's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
In addition to the stuff already mentioned do you use Iodized salt? If you do stop until after you lesions have been gone for a while. The iodine also activates DH lesions and it takes a while for the antibodies to leave the skin. -
ARCHIVED I'm Gonna See An Allergist Soon
ravenwoodglass replied to mr. moore's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Celiac is not an allergy it is an autoimmune disease. However sometimes an allergist can be helpful for folks that have a false negative on the panel. But not because they are testing for an allergy but because they can guide you through a true elimination diet. That is a long process but can be helpful. Have you had a celiac panel done? If so what were... -
ARCHIVED Pcp Says Blood Panel Has "abnormalities"
ravenwoodglass replied to Bowlofjokes's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That is definately positive bloodwork. As Shay mentioned if you are going to have the biopsy done it is very important that you continue to eat gluten until those are done. Even on a full gluten diet there is a possibility of a false negative with biopsy so you need to do all you can to try and insure an accurate result. However no matter what the biopsies... -
ARCHIVED Ok Planters Peanuts, Most Yogurt, Jelly, Rice Krispies, ....
ravenwoodglass replied to mr. moore's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The only thing I have to add is that if the peanuts are dry roasted you should check with the company. Many companie's flavorings used with the dry roasting process contain unsafe ingredients. You should always check stuff that has 'natural flavorings' for safety. That is where barley malt is often hiding. Most companies have a phone number or web site... -
ARCHIVED Sharing My Story Isn't Worth It Sometimes
ravenwoodglass replied to fran641's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would get the info from a recognized celiac information site that she would respect like PubMed or the NIH (National Institute of Health) and keep it to give to her the next time you see her. Highlight where it says that the endo is the gold standard for diagnosis and thank her for her concern. Tell her you are aware of the strong inheritence pattern... -
ARCHIVED When Is The Anxiety Going To Go, And The Brain Fog?
ravenwoodglass replied to mr. moore's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You need to avoid gravy because it is usually made with wheat flour. Also the super B complex are going to be good BUT you do need to also get a seperate sublingual B12. Your body isn't going to be able to use this vitamin from one that you swallow. The sublingual will dissolve and be absorbed through the membranes in your mouth. It really will make a... -

ARCHIVED Dna Results In
ravenwoodglass replied to angelschick's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The lack of DQ2 or DQ8 is not conclusive in the elimination of the possibility of having celiac. Those are the most common ones, as far as US is concerned, but there are now 7 more genes that are recognized as being 'celiac' genes in other countries. You can definately still have full blown celiac. -
You shouldn't put off applying for the stamps, do it as soon as you can. I can't say for sure that it is still done but they used to be able to expedite food stamps. They do have a long wait for monetary assistance but if you are only applying for food stamps those can sometimes be approved faster if there is a need. Also be sure to ask them about any...

Have you checked all your toiletries? Shampoos, lotions, makeup, lip sticks and balms etc can all provide enough gluten for a reaction. -
ARCHIVED When Is The Anxiety Going To Go, And The Brain Fog?
ravenwoodglass replied to mr. moore's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
No that is not selfish. It does sound like you are going through withdrawl. A lot of what you mentioned in the previous post should go away soon as long as you don't get reglutened. The intensity of your withdrawl means you were being seriously effected brainwise, IMHO. You will have a day soon when it will lift. Until then hang in there. -
ARCHIVED Test Results..
ravenwoodglass replied to nutbutters's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
A one month challenge is often not long enough to redamage the gut and one biopsy sample is basically useless. IF you have been having relief from symptoms you have your answer from the best doctor you could find, your own body. One word of caution about the barium test the solution they will have you drink is going to be full of gluten. You will have... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else Tired Of "celiac" Vs "gluten Sensitive"?
ravenwoodglass replied to mhb's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Here is what the NIH has to say about celiac and DH. I have read alot about what the NIH says about celiac and DH and I have never seen it referred to as an allergic reaction. "Dermatitis Herpetiformis Dermatitis herpetiformis (DH) is an intensely itchy, blistering skin rash that affects 15 to 25 percent of people with celiac disease.3 The rash usually... -

The clonopin and any other drug or supplement you take needs to be checked. With script drugs your pharmacist should be able to check or you can ask for the info sheet that comes with the drug and call the maker yourself. You should NOT stop taking any prescription drugs that you need on a daily basis without checking with your doctor first. This applies... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else Tired Of "celiac" Vs "gluten Sensitive"?
ravenwoodglass replied to mhb's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Sorry to disagree with you here but DH is celiac, it is not found with other conditions and a diagnosis of DH IS a diagnosis of celiac disease. That has been well established even in the US for years. -

ARCHIVED Worse Stomach Pain After Endoscopy
ravenwoodglass replied to Konaa's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If your pain has not started to abate a bit by now do demand to be seen by your doctor. You may be having an unusual reaction to something you had done and while it is unusual sometimes complications can arise from any procedure. If you have developed a fever or your pain is increasing rather than decreasing or any other new problems pop up do please get... -

ARCHIVED Can You Recommend Some Safe Canned Products?
ravenwoodglass replied to SGWhiskers's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I would suggest the Hormel web site. They have a some gluten free stuff. Some is shelf stable like Dinty Moore Beef stew, and some is in the refrigerated section like the Italian Pot Roast.
