That's the worst, having toast ruined that cost almost as much as the toaster! I love that bread too, and the pizza shells are great, once you can get past the cost. Have you tried any of the nondairy milks? Rice milk is good (Pacific is safe but not Rice Dream) and the vanilla flavors are great for baking, chocolate almond milk is really nice also...

ARCHIVED Why Am I Retaining So Much Water?
ravenwoodglass replied to munchkinette's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
You really need to see a doctor as soon as you can. Especially if this is something that is new. That wouldn't happen with a bladder infection but a kidney problem is another story. Please get this evaluated. -
ARCHIVED How Does One Safely Barhop?
ravenwoodglass replied to DarkIvy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
One of the safest things you can do is just drink wine, a gluten free beer or gluten free cider, like Woodchuck. I have asked bartenders to rinse their hands and I also make sure they rinse the glass under tap water before they pour in the wine. Do be careful if you drink hard liquor, while some of us do not react to distilled gluten grains some of us do... -
ARCHIVED Liquor?
ravenwoodglass replied to kalanfan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The best way to find out is to call the company that makes it. Do be aware though that distilled gluten grains are thought by some to safe for all of us, this is not the case and some will react to them. So if distilled alcohol is used in this do ask where it is derived from. If your brave you could try a challenge, drink some everyday (or until you react... -
This happens to a lot of us and is a really good sign that you need the diet. Your body is overjoyed that the food you are eating is not interferring with the process of nutrient uptake and is begging you for more. This will go away in a bit. Until then feed your body as much nutrient rich food as you can when it asks for it. You were wise to decide to...

Children under the age of 5 often do not show up in blood work. If you are a diagnosed celiac then the chances of her also being impacted are strong. The fact that she has dropped so much in height is significant. If you plan on her getting an endo do not make her gluten free yet, if you don't then I would get her on the diet asap.

If you really feel the need to challenge then you should do it for a week at least 3 times a day. That would give you a better idea. Do bear in mind though that some of us after we have fully healed will go through a period where gluten does not seem to effect them. If you are a diagnosed celiac and you are introduce gluten be aware that the antibodies...

ARCHIVED Does This Sound Right To You...
ravenwoodglass replied to ECD's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
One thing to keep in mind also is that celiac can send the immune system into hyperdrive but gluten intolerance and celiac are not allergies. Most allergists are unfamiliar with intolerances and only deal with 'true' allergies that cause a histamine reaction. Hopefully the allergist you will soon be seeing is one who can assist you with an elimination diet... -
ARCHIVED Is It Too Late For Me?
ravenwoodglass replied to miss vivian's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes you can heal. It will take time and there is a lot you need to learn but you have found a good place to do so. Ask any questions you need to and be sure to read as much as you can, gluten free is much more than just food. It is doable though and hopefully you will soon be feeling better than you have in a long time. -
ARCHIVED Small Bowel Biopsy Results In.
ravenwoodglass replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Not a lot of time so to put it plainly and simply if I had waited until tests showed I was celiac I would be dead. Dietary response is also a valid form of diagnosis and for some of us the only way until testing is improved. Thanks to a savvy allergist and an elimination diet and challenge I was finally diagnosed. -
ARCHIVED 2 Yr Old- Neg Blood Test, Gi Dr Wants To Do A Biopsy
ravenwoodglass replied to MomJDL's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
When his BM's burn does it make him itchy? Does he have any other rashes? This sounds like possibly a DH reaction that is all to familiar to me. I get the same effect from a glutening and it does hurt a lot. Something that you may want to do is have a derm biopsy the tissue next to where his skin is inflamed, if it is DH it would be a conclusive diagnosis... -
ARCHIVED Anything To Watch Out For At The Dentist?
ravenwoodglass replied to Yenni's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The two biggest concerns are the toothpolish and the topical they use before they inject the novacaine. You should make very sure that they actually check the products that they are using. Too often they just assume everything is okay. Even mold material can be a risk, when I was having crowns done the dentist checked every item and there was only one of... -
ARCHIVED Sanity Check: Validity Of Enterolab
ravenwoodglass replied to climbmtwhitney's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The genes for celiac don't follow the same inheritence pattern that most genetic diseases do. It is also extremely common but doctors don't like to diagnose until we are in the end stage of the disease. Most folks don't realize the number of body systems that celiac impacts and if they are only looking at gut issues then folks might think those that find... -
ARCHIVED Score Of 63
ravenwoodglass replied to formerglutenglutton's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It definately sounds like you are one of us and the stool testing result bears that out. As others have said you may find that it is a lot easier to maintain your weight once you are gluten-free. If you plan on having a biopsy then please don't stop eating gluten until that is done or your chances of having a false negative will be very high. There are... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free - Whole List Of Frito Lay
ravenwoodglass replied to Dustda18's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was overjoyed to see that list also until I got CC'd over and over again. I do eat the Plain Lay's and they also make Stacks which are made in a dedicated facility but the rest of the stuff I leave alone. -
ARCHIVED Has This Happend To You
ravenwoodglass replied to cat3883's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It should resolve soon. One thing that may be going on is that gluten was a neurotoxin for you. Your brain got used to having it's own gluten supplied drug stash, so to speak, and now it has to learn how to sleep without the soporific effect of the gluten. For most this should resolve within a couple of weeks at the most. As long as you don't regluten... -
ARCHIVED Is This What Gluteining Feels Like? And Other Questions.
ravenwoodglass replied to SGWhiskers's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The 48 hour delay for GI symptoms is pretty usual. Some will have GI upset fairly quickly but for others it may take 3 to 5 days. It does sound like you got glutened. As long as you are not reglutening yourself you should feel better soon. Everyone heals at different rates and at times the progress with issues can be so subtle that they are hard to... -
ARCHIVED Corned Beef Hash
ravenwoodglass replied to wsieving's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for letting us know, also you can also eat the Dinty Moore stew. I eat the canned all the time. Their scalloped potatoes and ham that goes in the microwave used to be safe also but I would double check that one as I haven't had it in a while. -
ARCHIVED Coco-biotic By Body Ecology
ravenwoodglass replied to ShayFL's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Personally I would not use the product. I am one who won't use any product that has gluten ingredients that have been processed to be gluten free knowingly. I am however very sensitive and react to tiny amounts. You may want to challenge the product for a week when you are feeling good and not consuming or using any other risky product. Perhaps that could... -
Welcome, It sounds like you found a good doctor at last. Thank goodness. You have also found a great place here to get you through the process of healing. Do make sure you check all meds and supplements for gluten, your doctor really has no idea so check with the pharmacy or even the maker themselves. Ask any question you need and don't worry about venting...

ARCHIVED If You Are Confirmed Celiac Or Gluten Intolerant How Sick Were You?
ravenwoodglass replied to TracyB's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
How sick folks are really varies. For years I had on and off symptoms that made it easy to ignore what was going on tummy wise. It wasn't until the last 5 or 6 years of illness that my tummy issues were a daily and nightly occurance. One thing I did learn after diagnosis was that it is not a symptom of IBS to wake up in the middle of the night with tummy... -
ARCHIVED Igg Testing-- Reliable Or Not Worth The Money?
ravenwoodglass replied to foodmakesmesick's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Even though your tests came back negative I would strongly advise that you do the diet strictly for at least a few months. If your celiac testing was a false negative your body may be in hyperdrive, immune system wise and you may find yourself reactive to a lot of foods because of the fact that you need to eliminate gluten. I am someone who always has shown... -
ARCHIVED Not Celiac
ravenwoodglass replied to Gerri's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
After all the hell you went through it must be frustrating to hear a report like the one she gave you. As sick as you were from the challenge it does not surprise me that she found a new hernia, gluten reactions can be really forceful. Hopefully now that you are through with them torturing you healing can begin. -
ARCHIVED Body Lotion / Moisturizers
ravenwoodglass replied to Happy Holly's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I have an allergy to soy as well as celiac so many of the lotions are out for me. I finally found a product made by NOW that is just jojoba oil and cocoa butter. I usually don't like oils but this absorbs quickly and the simplicity of the ingredients really fits my needs. -
There should be a phone number on the bottle or box that you can call. Please don't just ask if they are gluten-free because no matter what the alcohol is derived from they will say yes because some consider all distilled gluten grains safe. Ask instead what the alcohol they use in the product is derived from. No matter what the item, even juices or sodas...
