Hey Kassandra- Thanks again! I think I will just stay put- I thought about being stuck in traffic and watching our plane fly ovehead! I'm from New York, but my husband's sister lives in NZ- Small world. They teach at Massey University and live in Pamerston North, so we'll spend most of our time on the north island. ARCHIVED Lax- Los Angeles Airport Layover
juliela replied to juliela's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Thanks Kassandra- I was afraid of that. I've heard people say to avoid LAX if at all possible. We will we returning from New Zealand, so I think we'll be tired and hungry and semi-miserable. At least I won't get my hopes too high and I'll hope my gluten-free meal on the plane comes through. Do you recomend getting out of there or just waiting given... -
Hello, I'll be at LAX for a 6-7 (at least) hour layover in 2 weeks and again on Thanksgiving Day. are there any options for a meal and not just snacks there. I'm not too interested in leaving the airport as we'll have all of our luggage (there is no storage)- unless it is SUPER close. I think it will be crazy there- especially on Thanksgiving. Any ideas...

ARCHIVED Water Bath For Baking Cakes
juliela replied to cielo304's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I bake a lot of cheesecakes and tortes in water baths. I think it keeps them from drying out. I did this before I baked gluten-free. I use a springform pan and usually wrap around the bottom and sides with aluminum foil- just in case any water leaks. Then put the springform pan in the middle of a casserole or baking pan and pour about an inch or so of... -

ARCHIVED Teeth ?
juliela replied to Nikki'smom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Also, forgot to mention- if it makes you feel a little better- if she is gluten-free now, there is a chance that her remaining teeth will come in OK- for example her 2nd molars at age 12 or her wisdom teeth. Also, her premolars may be OK, but you just have to wait and see. Unfortunately, her front teeth have already formed and probably erupted already.... -
ARCHIVED Teeth ?
juliela replied to Nikki'smom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Gemini- wonderful advice- especially about the Sjogren's Syndrome. The enamel does not come back, just as osteoporosis can't really be reversed once the bone is gone. If the teeth are just discolored, there's always professional whitening. Unfortunately if there are enamel defects- the choices are composite bonding (for very small areas), or crowns... -
