  1. Hi We're not huge fans of the Perky-O's, they leave a wierd taste in you mouth. The Envirokids are good, but still have a lot of sugar The Gorilla Munch is like Kix). My daughter loves the 'rice krispy's' with berries by Erewhon. Also the Health Valley rice or corn chex with her choice of fruit cut up in it. She also likes the Bob's Red Mill mighty tasty...
  2. My husband did the same thing when it came to our daughter's diagnosis (and she has pretty violent symptoms). It took the dr. actually sitting him down and explaining the situation and although not immediatly life threatening, it was still dangerous. Maybe your dr would do a free consult with him...
  3. My daughter was diagnosed 6 months after my son was born. She was a BIG baby and always healthy until that point (4 years old and highly symptomatic). My son was smaller, pretty healthy but always in the 10-15% for his age. No apparent GI problems and we were told by our ped's GI (who we do like) to feed him a reglar diet including gluten until he is ...
  4. Thanks for all the great suggestions! Love the one about bringing frozen casseroles-brilliant! I'm actually starting to get excited (not so nervous)-Thanks again! -rachelle

    ARCHIVED Dentist

I sat there and made them do that (mark the chart in bold) in front of me for my daughter's chart (I'm not celiac, but she is), but they still told me to call a week in advance to make sure they had the gluten-free cleaner in stock.

At our dentist, you need to specify 'Celiac Disease' before your actual appointment so that they can make sure and have gluten-free toothpaste to clean with. The one variety they were planning on using when I went was NOT gluten-free...
  7. -we also use PB cups instead of the plain chocolate-WOW (and the Pamela's double chocolate cookies-very rich)
  8. Try the recipe on the back of the Hershey's cocoa container (the one with the cup of boiling water) but sub in the Pamela's gluten-free baking mix for flour, you have to minimally alter the baking powder, soda and salt but the pkg of Pamela's tells you how much is already in the mix cup for cup-if not, let me know and I have the full conversion for that recipe...
  9. We will have coolers, I just want to minimize the amount of ice/perishables I have to deal with. Are the Cliff nectar bars good? We do love the LARA bars (& JOCOLATE for me!). Thanks for all the suggestions-never knew you could reconstitute the dried apples like that-bet it would be good with the 'Just fruits' mix too!
  10. We are going on our 1st gluten-free camping trip since our diagnosis in late July. I am looking for family/kid friendly food ideas (especally non-perishable). My inlaws will be there and they really don't fully understand the importance of making sure EVERYTHING is gluten-free, so I will be responsible for getting/making all the food (which is fine with...
  11. Is you son feeling any better? -Rachelle
  12. It's overwhelming at first, isn't it!! We do gluten-free waffles, pancakes etc.. with fruit, scrambled eggs, veggie omlets, health valley rice or corn chex for breakfast, toast with PB&J (I make all baked goods with Pamela's gluten free baking mix--amazon .com) Lunch is sandwiches (but good gluten-free bread gets pretty expensive), soups, salads...
  13. I don't know how much info they'd give you, but the people who own Lingonberries Market (all gluten free) in Vancouver WA are the nicest people and it's a great little store. Here's the link: www.lingonberriesmarket.com/ It could be a good resource if you're wanting to open a store yourself...
  14. So happy for you!!! Hope it keeps up for you and you see more progress each day! Take care, -rachelle
  15. Very interesting info!! I am almost 100% Irish, negative for celiac, however my 5 year old daughter is celiac (husband is a French mix and also tested negative) She was completely fine until 2005, in the same month our son was born and she fell at school and broke her arm, was in a cast from shoulder to fingertips for 2 months and in and out of the Dr at...
  16. Hi I SWEAR by Pamela's gluten free baking mix. I substitute it for everything containing flour. It's cheapest to buy in bulk (it comes in managable sized bags) from amazon .com and the shipping is free-otherwise you can get it in some grocery stores (fred meyer in the health food area). My non-gluten-free family members can't tell that whatever I bake...
  17. Hi, our daughter was diagnosed 1.5 years ago. She was complaining of horrible stomachaches and her belly would swell up any time she'd eat a high gluten meal. Immediately after her biopsy (our GI was positive by sight) we went cold turkey. I had been doing research and had a list of things to start her out with. Within 3 days it was as if she never had...
  18. I agree, pretty much all of the specialty food is super expensive. I will stock up on certain items when they are on sale-our Wild Oat's has pretty good sales, but for the most part, I alter regular recipes, batch cook and freeze in small containers for my daughter. If you're looking for a good mac&cheese, the Better Homes and Gardens recipe is what...
  19. For those of you in Oregon and Washington--Fred Meyer usually has the mac&cheese, and Amy's bowls (shepards pie, teryaki chicken, enchilada etc) in their health food area freezer section. I also HIGHLY recommend Lingonberries in Vancouver, (east of SR 500) The entire store is gluten-free and they have everything you can possibly imagine--including gluten...
