ARCHIVED Need A Substitute For The Old Oatmeal Bath Remedy
celiac-mommy replied to zarfkitty's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Baking soda works pretty good. Just sprinkle all throughout in a tepid bath. -
My daughter started getting very bad, large whiteheads on her cheeks and chin, I started looking at the lotion and shampoo I was using on her, and it did have gluten I switched immediately and started washing her face really well right before bed and then using Clinique toner, within 2 days it had improved significantly. The only time she breaks out now...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free 2 Months And Burned Out
celiac-mommy replied to bellabrit7's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Focus on all the stuff you can have and not the stuff you can't. Why make yourself miserable? What foods do you love and crave? Figure out an alternative. There are some really good mixes out there for brownies, cookies, bread--do some research, try some products (if you're not much of a baker) If you like really rich chocolate brownies, the Gluten Free... -
2 things that stand out to me is "eats very little and exercises 5xweek" She may be eating too little and exercising too much for what she's eating. The body then goes into starvation mode and anytime she takes in food, her body holds onto it because it's not sure when it will get it again, thus causing a weight gain. I'm not saying (at all) that she has...

ARCHIVED Heart Flip Flop
celiac-mommy replied to holdthegluten's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am a cardiovascular specialist, totally agree with checking it out with your Dr. BUT, if it is indigestion of some kind--i.e. being glutened, and you're eating ice cream from Baskin-Robins, are you making sure they are digging you gluten-free ice cream out of a new bucket with a clean scoop?? We made that mistake ONCE and paid dearly!!! -Rachelle -
ARCHIVED A Whole Bunch Of Things
celiac-mommy replied to confused's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I completely agree. It is SOOO much better for the kids if they are diagnosed early. They will grow up with this as part of their lives. I think it would be much more difficult to be diagnosed in your 30's, 40's, etc.. when all you've know is a gluten-full lifestyle. Take one day at a time, if they are diagnosed or you decide to go gluten-free anyway... -
ARCHIVED A Whole Bunch Of Things
celiac-mommy replied to confused's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Get the kids tested!! My DD was diagnosed at 4 and they will test my son in 2 weeks-he'll be 2. Don't wait-get your kids healthy. My daughter was painfully skinny-except for her malnourished belly, complained of stomachaches and had eczema rashes frequently. The blood test that was performed was very positive and the biopsy confirmed (after diagnosis... -
ARCHIVED Depressed- Need To Vent
celiac-mommy replied to angel42's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The only diet more restrictive than a Celiac diet is a pregnant Celiac diet. I know I'm off the subject (and I TOTALLY understand what you're going through and completely sympathize), but what has to be different for a pregnant celiac diet? Why can't it be a "normal" celiac diet? -Rachelle -
ARCHIVED Reaction To Gluten-celiac Disease
celiac-mommy replied to danchi's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Every person reacts differently. My daughter has a violent-D-reaction immediatly with consumption, but if it is ingested through breathing--free floating flour, hay bales etc, she has a slightly delayed reaction-stomachaches for a few hours and then a few hours of vomitting. I have known someone who has no outward reaction and another little boy who has... -
ARCHIVED Favorite Pasta Brands?
celiac-mommy replied to Tephie's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I was in Whole Foods this weekend and as I was picking up my usual gluten-free noodles, another pkg caught my eye. Not sure if they're new or not, but the big "Award Winning Taste" made me pick up a box. They are 100% soybean, there is golden, green and black varieties (don't remember the brand). Has anyone tried them? I was going to make them yesterday... -

ARCHIVED Celiac Blood Tests Came Back Negative!
celiac-mommy replied to sneezydiva's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you feel better going gluten-free, then why don't you listen to your body? Who cares what the test says and who cares what others think-you could be more "intollerant" than "allergic". If they can't support you while you're getting healthy and feeling better, then are they really good friends to begin with? My DD is positive, my husband and I are not... -
ARCHIVED Early Introduction To Gluten ! !
celiac-mommy replied to irish daveyboy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I totally concur. There was no history of celiac in our family, exclusively breast fed (DD)for 6 months before starting on solids gradually-and on rice cereal and homemade babyfood-only fruits and veggies. She had no symptoms and was growing perfectly until age 4. Thank God I listened to my heart and took her to the Dr (when symptoms started), and thank... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-free Lists By Subscription
celiac-mommy replied to Moondanse's topic in Publications & Publicity
I also bought the most expensive Clan Thompson pkg when my DD was diagnosed, and found it NOT helpful. There was a massive list from stores that weren't even in our area. I found myself still calling manufacturers on a regular basis. The one that I did find helpful was the drug list, it listed a lot of info that I had overlooked or never even considered... -
ARCHIVED Sticky Bun Bread
celiac-mommy replied to celiac-mommy's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I promise-I've made this twice and both of my kids ate it too, no problems! But, you can use the powdered eggs if you want--or try it without the eggs... -Rachelle -
ARCHIVED Weight Gain After Diagnosis
celiac-mommy replied to MJS's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I would be so happy to help! You let me know the easiest way to keep in touch with you and I'm there for you! There are a few things that I will need to know to get started- Current height and weight, activity level, amount of exercise and what type, and a basic weekly schedule-wake, sleep, work, etc... just to give me an idea on where/how to start you... -

ARCHIVED Weight Gain After Diagnosis
celiac-mommy replied to MJS's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
What are you all doing to try to lose the weight? If I knew, I could try to help. I'm not a certified nutritionist-so keep that in mind, but I manage my daughter's gluten-free diet and I have set up diet and exercise plans for quite a few people-friends and co-workers. I have a friend and her sister who I have worked with steadily in the past 2 months... -
For the crust, I usually use a regular shortcake recipe but sub in Pamela's baking mix, but that does have buttermilk in it, so I would just use a gluten-free flour mix that you like (you can find it in the grocery store-Fred Meyer health food section is usually pretty good). For the "sauce" I would try a soy vanilla yogurt or soy pudding then load up...

ARCHIVED Please! Need Advice On My Toddler
celiac-mommy replied to wildlife-lover's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If you feel like he should be tested (listen to your heart) then you need to tell your Dr. that he WILL be testing him. If he refuses, you need to find another Dr. I work in health care, I am fortunate that I know by working with these docs who are good and who are not as good, I realize that most people don't have this luxury--for this reason, I tell people... -
ARCHIVED Sticky Bun Bread
celiac-mommy replied to celiac-mommy's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
It's OK to leave the eggs out-I suppose you could use the powdered eggs if you're concernced. But, I've done a little research and "they" say that it's OK to leave them out even for a few days-I wouldn't go that far.... I just use the JELLO brand pudding (cook and serve) (Open Original Shared Link) -Rachelle -
I'm always one to share a great new recipe, especially one that can be made in 5 minutes and tastes AMAZING. Here it is: Sticky Bun Brunch Bread: Make the night before.... 1 pkg gluten-free Pantry white bread mix (+ ingredients to make the bread) 1 3oz pkg butterscotch pudding mix 1/2 c brown sugar (packed) 1/2 c chopped pecans 1 stick...
