  2. This is a great book: Open Original Shared Link .com/Gluten-Free-Vegetarian-Kitchen-Nutritious-Wheat-Free/dp/1557885109/ref=sr_1_3/002-1810760-7944002?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1194849651&sr=8-3" target="external ugc nofollow">Open Original Shared Link .com/Gluten-Free-Vegetari...9651&sr=8-3 I have been a vegetarian since I was 12 and gluten...
  3. I am sorry to say it but she is right. Your doctors are clueless. I have no GI symptoms....I just have DH....but DH is celiac disease and you ARE causing internal damage when you eat gluten. I read that celiacs that do not have GI symptoms have the same increased risk of lymphoma and other cancers. The risks to your child are also increased. Please read...
  4. I was bitter and angry and hard to be around for about a month. I was never sick. I only had DH so finding out wasn't a major releif. I am fine now- 3 months later. I am thankful to find out at age 28. If I were younger I would have struggled with an identity crisis and feeling like I was missing out. If I were older I would be more concerned about...
  5. I have been gluten free for almost 3 months and I keep getting DH on my fingers. I have improved greatly...now the rash is only on my fingers but it is driving me nuts. It itches something terrible. I have been constantly scrutinizing my diet for hidden gluten sources and I haven't found any. How long till the IgA deposits are gone??? When did your rash...
  6. I stutter and I have not found a difference with my fluency on the gluten free diet. I wish I did. My only noticeable symptoms to gluten are DH. I do think it is entirely possible that your speech can be affected by gluten. They are currently doing a medical trial on a drug for stuttering. The medicine just so happens to be for seizures and bipolar...
  7. Thanks for your advice. Can you do Enterolab on a 2 year old?
  8. Hello- I wanted to run this by all of you experienced celiac parents to get your advice. I have celiac and I am trying to find out if my LO does too. Kellen is my oldest. He is 2 1/2 years old. He is really thin and a little short as well. He is 36 inches (25-50th percentile) and 27 pounds (10-20 percentile). His father and I are not small people...
  9. First of all- CONGRATS! A new baby is so exciting! You may have celiac that just reacts in a weird way to hormones. I know that I have been celiac for at least 2 years but I only found out 2 months ago. I got DH (the celiac rash) 2 months postpartum with my first. It then went away on its own only to return again when I was 2 months postpartum with...
  10. I have not heard of this in the beginning of pregnancy. When I was pregnant with my first I could hardly walk during the last month because of joint pain. Relaxin is a hormone that helps your hips spread and that can cause joint issues. It was terrible for me! Ask your OB if that is what they are talking about and if that is common in the beginning. I...
  11. Mine was mostly painless. They numb the area with a shot and then take a tiny piece of skin next to the blister (not on the blister). Then a lab looks for IgA deposits.
  12. I would take your child to the pediatrician and get him/her a skin biopsy at a dermatologist ASAP. If it is DH a skin biopsy is all you need to confirm celiac and he/she won't need have to have an endoscopy. I have DH and it is hard to say what is and what isn't DH. Most of it looks like blisters but some of it looks like hives too. A skin biopsy can...
  13. Okay- I have celiac. I am concerned about my son. He does not have digestive issues but then again, neither do I. He is very thin. He has eczema and food allergies. AND...I think he may have issues with his tooth enamel too! He is the only one in our family with any food allergies. He is allergic to milk, beef, and blueberries and is generally very...
  14. (HUGS) I am the celiac in my family. I do all of the cooking and I have wondered how much harder it would be if I were not in that place of control. Is he new to celiac? Could he be going through some emotional issues that come with a new diagnosis? For the first month I was dealing with so much that I was lashing out at my husband left and right....
  15. OMG! I had to add this recent event to round out this whole experience! He just called me back with the results from my blood test. He forgot who I was and gave me the results like he had never met me. Here is my exciting dramatazation: Doc: I have the results from your bloodtest and it looks like the bloodtest shows that you have celiac disease. Me...
  16. (((hugs))) My first child is really thin and always has been. I was really concerned that my breastmilk didn
  17. I am a proud stay at home mom to two boys- a 2 1/2 year old and a 9 month old. I was a 4th grade teacher in downtown Los Angeles and I plan to go back when my youngest is in school. I LOVE TEACHING and I couldn't imagine doing any other job. As I see it now I am still a teacher I just have 2 students instead of 30. Meredith
  18. I know I have celiac. I was just wondering if there are episodes of that come and go. As I said I generally don't have GI symptoms but right around the time the celiac "turned on" I had this terrible GI episode that went away. I got my first bad DH two months later. -I was just wondering if anyone had anything like this or if it was unrelated.
  19. I know that my celiac was triggered by the birth of my first son. My rash showed up when he was 2 months old. There was one weird thing I wanted to ask you guys about. Did any of you ever have celiac episodes that just went away without a gluten free diet? I had a mysterious episode that landed me in the hospital when my first child was 2 weeks old. ...
  20. I'm reading Dangerous Grains and it also says (on p 75) that a skin biopsy of DH "offers another approach to obtaining an accurate diagnosis of celiac." I had this biopsy- I read the results with my own eyes in black and white. I really don't think I should have to put my body through the damaging effects of the gluten challenge. Wait...reword that...I...
  21. I guess some of them look kinda like zits but the fluid is like water. Some of mine are blisters and some are like hives...I guess I may have hives too. They itch like crazy.
  22. I had my first meeting with a GI doctor today and was sadly disappointed. I even got his name from The Gluten-Free Bible so I thought he would be really knowledgeable. I have only a few GI symptoms but I decided to go to him because my dermatologist said that he knows little about celiac. This GI doctor today told me that he knows little about DH. He...
  23. Hi! I have been a vegetarian for 16 years and gluten free for almost 4 weeks. I bought the book The Gluten Free Vegetarian Kitchen by Donna Klein and I love it. I found the book on Amazon. I have made 3 recipes and really liked each one. My favorite so far is the polenta chili. For lunches I often have the gluten free Amy's entrees and soups or Organic...
  24. I don't trust McDonalds fries. They didn't even admit to adding beef flavoring (which also has wheat) till recently. I would be nervous about the wheat in the flavoring as well as CC from the other breaded products that are fried there. IN & OUT would be a great alternative (if you have one near you) because they have such a simple menu. Plain potatoes...
  25. I find this so interesting. Can you trace celiac back through your family tree? I know that it came through my father's side. My father's mother was full Swedish. She and all of her siblings died of some type of digestive cancer during the 70s and 80s. My grandmother had digestive issues all of her life and was told by a doctor in the 50s that she...
