  1. Perhaps this sounds odd, but I am new here... When you are exposed to gluten are you VERY aware of your colon? i.e. - can feel it, along with rumbles, grumbles & pain (I was actually walking down the street this afternoon and looked downward and said allowed: "ok, NOW what do you want!?!") My doctor thinks that perhaps there is something else...
  2. I broke down crying in both Whole Foods, Trader Joes, and on the bus going to work. I am not a crier, I have cried more in the past month than in the past 5 years. Whole Foods has Gluten Free vanilla cherry crumb-top muffins. They are expensive, but damn if the sugar rush isn't incredible! This whole process has made me a lot more forgiving and...
  3. I love Alf! Plus, he burps with such pride and gusto, and since all I have done for the past three months is burp, loudly and often, it seemed fitting. And I told my job I need to leave. I am sure there are going to be more tears, but I know in the long run it will be good.
  4. Hi and welcome. I am brand new to this too, just diagnosed three weeks ago. I am not quite in the place to be able to eat "normal" foods yet... brown rice and steamed veg are my world, but I am sure others will weigh in on this. I am kinda struggling with language as well. Even close friends who I have explained things to in graphic detail still don...
  5. Unfortunately I also need to help customers... so in the morning before we open I can, but unless I can work on my Darth Vader, no dice. Would it be totally crazy to split a cotton ball and shove it up my nose?
  6. I was prescribed Levsin (digestive muscle relaxant) prior to being diagnosed (2+ weeks ago) for the abdomen pain I was experiencing. It causes constipation, which I have recently been battling, so I have stopped taking it. Any recommendations on pain management? (Sometimes walking helps, but often it makes it worse.)
  7. Thank you all. I am in the process of trying to find a new job... but sadly I need to keep this one for the time being for financial reasons. It is kinda breaking my heart, cause I love the work and the people, but they are being as accommodating as possible to help be limit my exposure. I am sure this will pass, it just hard to accept that something...

    ARCHIVED Nervous

Good luck! I have a GI appointment tomorrow too! (its my second) Mine was 10x more helpful than my primary and was the first person to say "we are going to get to the bottom of this and get you feeling better." During the visit he palpated my abdomen, asked me a ton of questions and then ordered test and labs. It was "easy" compared to visits that...

    ARCHIVED Dr. Appt. Tomorrow, Help!

Thanks Tom, I am totally flustered by all of this. (which I guess is even visible through the internet I share a living space with two "gluten eaters," and while they have been great and supportive I guess I cannot rule out the possibility of cross-contamination completely. Some of it is my fault... I didn't even think about how sharing the toaster...

    ARCHIVED Dr. Appt. Tomorrow, Help!

I was diagnosed just over a week ago. (I had an clear endoscopy in April - they thought I had a motility disorder; tested positive for 2 of 3 antibodies in June) I have been gluten-free for just over a month... but recently discovered my lip balm and multivitamin contained wheat... so truly gluten-free for a week. Currently I am battling a mix of constipation...
  11. I was JUST telling a co-worker how I have been eating a crazy amount of sugar. I grew up in a household with a diabetic, so sweets were very rare and I usually am a "salt person." I have been gluten free for almost a month and the past 4 days I cannot get enough sugar, its like nothing is sweet enough for satisfying. That cake mix sounds fantastic! ...
  12. Thank you all. This board has been such a wealth of information since my doctor said "you have celiac, don't eat gluten" and sent me on my way. I appreciate all of this information.
  13. I am new and a bit in shock, but trying my best to do what is best for my body. That said, I do work in a bakery one day a week. I know that bakers notoriously have bad teeth (from wheat flour/sugar sticking to their teeth/gums via breathing in said raw ingredients) but I am wondering if people have similar problems being around wheat flour. Thanks...
