  1. You can also give goat yogurt a try... its really tangy. The older the cheese, the less lactose it has (the bacteria eat the lactose as the cheese ages), so Parmesan would also be a good starter cheese.

    ARCHIVED Bleeding?

6.5 hours in the ER later... They have no idea why I am so much pain, or bleeding... but I have "perfect urine." They sent me on my way with a 3rd muscle relaxant. I think the bacteria are back, the resident things it was some gluten.

    ARCHIVED Bleeding?

I asked, and they said the pans were used exclusively for the flourless cake... but I didn't even think about the drink mixes. Thanks. I spent most of today trying to get the results of my colon biopsies... which the doctor said she mailed to me, but was "in the middle of something and couldn't look them up." And of course her assistant had my chart...

    ARCHIVED Bleeding?

Ravenwoodglass - thanks! I do have some bleeding not associated with a BM, but it happened before, months ago. There is no pain, I do not have a temperature and the doctor's assistant is suppose to be calling me back with the results of my colonoscopy. She has been really helpful and attentive up until now, so I am hoping she will get her head out...

    ARCHIVED Bleeding?

Thanks Pedro. Doc just called and said "things change day to day" and go to the ER if the pain/bleeding get worse. That my colon looked fine and she could find no reason for the bleeding and that some days are more "painful and bloated" than others. Then said "she had to go" when I asked more questions. BLARGH!
  6. I have called my GI, but I am wondering if anyone else gets rectal bleeding when glutened... Friday I went out and had a slice of flourless chocolate cake and a few drinks (the first time in almost 4 months I have had a drink - and I called and checked 2x to ensure the cake was gluten free). I nearly passed out after acupuncture Saturday afternoon....
  7. This might come off as a little Pollyanna, but this whole discourse has gotten me very excited. Tabling the letter writing (which made me amazingly proud to be a member of this board!), I am wondering if the "fad" nature of "gluten free" might turn out to be something that benefits the celiac/gluten intolerant community. I grew up in a household where...
  8. If one more person says "but you look great, you have lost so much weight, don't you feel lucky that you have a disease that makes you LOOSE weight?" I might actually hit someone. I have wanted to respond: "yeah, its great to have to go to the bathroom 6-8 times a day, and feeling like someone is punching my abdomen repeatedly after I eat. Its AWESOME...
  9. Congrats on feeling better! My primary care insisted that I had acid reflux for two months and when the pills weren't working, she just switched me to a different acid blocker... which did nothing. I ended up with a bacterial overgrowth problem. I firmly believe that it was in part due to taking acid blockers when I did not have an acid problem. This...
  10. Elissa, I second Eriella's post about asking your doctor to get the blood tests done ASAP. I was diagnosed in June and I am finishing up my MA in gastronomy, worked 1 day a week in a bakery, and also am a food writer part-time. Please feel free to pm me if you are or aren't positive. It felt like it was the end of my world, but I promise you...
  11. darkangel - I am so sorry that this round of tests didn't offer you more information. Just a thought here... have you ever been 100% gluten free for a significant amount of time and did you notice any improvements? If you are sensitive to it and you are still consuming a small amount maybe its keeping you irritated enough to keep the distended belly going...
  12. I am sorry, that sucks. I second blueeye here. I bought and labeled a set of reusable containers with large GLUTEN FREE lettering and it has made co-habitating with gluten eaters so much less stressful/worrisome. Hope it passes quickly.
  13. I contacted them. They said some were, some weren't. They were suppose to email me a list, but it never made it my way. Perhaps you will have better luck.
  14. It took me 2 full days to recover. I was exhausted, and kept dropping things. By the third day I felt like I could run a marathon; it was like a giant cloud lifted. Good luck getting healthy!
  15. I am also an almond butter convert. Peanuts and I for some reason don't agree, they equal lots of gas for me. Almond butter and honey is one of my favorites. Great for dipping apples, bananas, celery or on gluten-free toast.
  16. I am still new at this game, but my understanding is if you were diagnosed via blood tests and endoscopy, you have celiac... for the rest of your life. Some people are asymptomatic, but are still doing damage to their small intestines. For me, I didn't really feel like going gluten free was a choice or not. The amount of pain I was in, coupled with...
  17. Thanks! I am so excited!!
  18. Wow, its really amazing how selfish and self-centered some people are that they cannot see beyond their own noses. I am really sorry you had to deal with this. I am sure your son really appreciated all the effort, or just was able to be "normal" by having cake! I know family is always a touchy subject, but she should not disrespect you or your son...
  19. I have been posting a lot of the bad side of being diagnosed, so I figure it is only fair to celebrate the good! I read today, like was really able to read/think/comprehend/focus/criticize and even write! This was the first time in 4 months!! Diagnosed w/celiac - June 21, 2007 Started antibiotics for bacterial overgrowth this past Wednesday. The...
  20. It could be cc, but I wonder if its their sour cream... perhaps they switched brands and didn't think to mention that. Give a call and check with the manager that does the food ordering and see if that is the culprit. (often times different staff do the mis or prep and put things into smaller containers for the lunch/dinner crew, so those who served you...
  21. I have found that if I drink coffee or black tea 20-60 minutes later I have D. I am kind of in denial about it. I keep trying to consumer smaller and smaller quantities to see if I can keep at least some in my life. Cause right now I am gluten, dairy and sugar free and trying to avoid starch... cutting out one more thing right now just doesn't seem possible...
  22. I am really sorry you have to go through this, it sucks. I agree that a kind and tactful "I appreciate the thought but I cannot expose myself or my baby to cross contamination." Perhaps if she realizes that its more than just YOUR body, but the baby itself that needs to have lots of good, healthy, gluten-free food right now she might "get it." No guarantee...
  23. I have had great results with calcium magnesium citrate. A tablespoon in the evening was enough to allow me a relatively comfortable a.m. bm. Because its acidulated, it makes both the calcium and magnesium more easily absorbed. You might want to double check with your doc first. The dairy free, gluten free kind I get: LifeTime (found it at whole foods...
  24. I work in the food industry and was just diagnosed in June and calling ahead, off hours and speaking to a manager is key. (FYI - Most managers have Mondays or Tuesdays off) I was planning a going away party, I am leaving my current job this current Friday, and we are going to be a party of 30. When one of the managers I was talking to started to give...
  25. This is me! (I have been in a lot of pain, especially after eating. Loud burps, gurgles, pressure, distention/bloating, the feeling that someone is shoving their hands under my rib cage) I just had a bacteria overgrowth study: you drink a special sugar drink, then breath into a bag every 15 minutes for 2 hours. Came back positive. I am now on xifaxan...
