ARCHIVED Anemia And Other Deficiencies
Di-gfree replied to ShayFL's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I was recently diagnosed with Hashimoto's. The iron/hypothyroid connection is confusing to me. I just read how low iron can cause intolerance to thyroid medication (both of which are a problem for me right now). So, it's frustrating trying to fix iron problem when you can't fix the hypothyroid problem, and vice versa (if that makes any sense!). It's a vicious... -
ARCHIVED Problems With Thyroid Medication
Di-gfree replied to Di-gfree's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
OK, thanks. Now, cytomel is just T3, right? So, does the body convert it to T4? Or that's the other way around? So, the T4 wouldn't need to be converted to T3 because the cytomel is T3... My ability to retain info at the moment is not very good. Oh, I remember my doctor mentioning cytomel now, but he seems to think it will cause me heartburn... Hmm, the synthroid... -
ARCHIVED Anemia And Other Deficiencies

Thank you for answering my questions. When I went back in 97 for my second biopsy, my villi had healed (was healing); and I've remained gluten-free, so I'm hoping I'm still healed... Now, even with my villi healed, I've gone from 0 ferritin to only around 21 (as my high). I guess something else is amiss (which I'm investigating and (sigh) working on). I'm... -

Ursa, Once the iron problem is fixed, you must stop the injections then? And, does the problem stay fixed forever, or does the iron slowly start depleting again? Thanks. -
ARCHIVED Anemia And Other Deficiencies
Di-gfree replied to ShayFL's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I've been gluten-free since 1997. At that time my ferritin was zero. Over 10 years later... I've got it up to 21.3. I also wonder if I'll always be on the low side. My RBC count is also low, so that might have something to do with it. I also wonder if our thyroid conditions have anything to do with it since my doctor mentioned that he's hoping my RBC might... -
ARCHIVED Problems With Thyroid Medication
Di-gfree replied to Di-gfree's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks for your replies. That's the thing that puzzles me; I hear you guys say how certain thyroid medications have changed your lives, but for me, it's just another thing I seem to be having problems with. I did put the 1/4 of the synthroid tablet under my tongue this morning, as an experiment; but I'm still having the burning issues because I'm sure I swallowed... -
I haven't taken any medications in years; but have had to start on Thyroid medication because I recently was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Disease. First I took the dessicated thyroid from porcine because I wanted to take the natural route (I'm in Canada, so it isn't Armour, it's just called 'Thyroid'). Anyway, I had an instant reaction to it - heartburn, throat...

I have all those symptoms off and on, except the weight gain (I'm chronically underweight); and have just been diagnosed with Hashimoto's (already diagnosed w/celiac years ago). You got the right advice about what tests to get! Good luck.

ARCHIVED Chemical Sensitivities?
Di-gfree replied to holiday16's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I need a new mattress, but I'm afraid to get one because of the 'new' smell. I returned a new recliner chair because the smell from the fabric was too strong! I can't stand smoke from woodstoves when it permeates the neighbourhood. -
ARCHIVED Puffed Rice Cereal
Di-gfree replied to Sillyyakdidi's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm in Canada, too; and haven't found a brand of Puffed Rice that doesn't include the warning: "made in a facility where wheat is present". So, no Puffed Rice for me. Besides, I find when I eat Puffed Rice (back in the days when the warning wasn't present), it caused my hypoglycemia to act up for some reason. -
ARCHIVED You Have To Be Assertive
Di-gfree posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
... which isn't the easiest thing for me, since I have anxiety and panic attack issues (re: social situations). But, today I went grocery shopping and while in the gluten-free section, I noticed at the end of the shelf, it was stocked with bags of regular organic wheat flour. The outside of the bags, of course, had flour all over them. Plus, the bags were... -

For all of you that are taking thyroid hormones for hypothyrodism/more specifically, Hashimoto's, can you tell me if there is only one brand of dessicated (natural) thyroid hormone made in Canada? I started Thyroid by ERFA two days ago, and have had to stop. When I went to the pharmacy to pick up the prescription, the pharmacist got his book out, in the...

ARCHIVED Hypothyroidism Test Results
Di-gfree replied to Di-gfree's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks... again. I did feel better gut-wise for those first 10 years - just not 'over-all' wise (which I now think was Hashimoto-related). I didn't gain any weight, but I felt far better than before going gluten-free (when I did feel like you have, that I was going to die). But, like I said, I crashed a year ago (that 'I'm going to die' feeling returned)... -
ARCHIVED Does This Happen To Anyone Else?
Di-gfree replied to jvalentine89's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I just have to say I'm stunned that anyone with celiac would purposely eat gluten. It's not meant as a criticism because it's completely your business, but I can't help but be surprised. But I know it's tough - I can't seem to give up gluten-free cookies, eventhough I probably should. -

ARCHIVED Hypothyroidism Test Results
Di-gfree replied to Di-gfree's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm worried. I'm having a burning-feeling and belching a couple hours after taking the first dose of the Thyroid by ERFA. Like I said, I was concerned that it wasn't gluten-free; and that's because the book the pharmacist showed me said it 'may contain starch'. So, I didn't buy it until two pharmacies found the same prescribing information put out by the... -
I didn't have a clue what afid was, but seeing 'Wolf-Parkinson-White' caught my attention. Seemingly, I'm the only one in my immediate family with celiac. But, one of my brothers has WPW, and had the operation for it years ago. He doesn't seem to have any other symptoms of celiac (at least digestive); but I see there is a connection.

ARCHIVED Need Help Figuring Out What Is Going On With My Sleep
Di-gfree replied to Sarah8793's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I read something not favourable about melatonin, but unfortunately I can't remember what is was. It was enough to make me not want to try it for my sleep problems. It may be unfair of me to say that since other people have success with it, though. Sarah, your first post describes my sleeping pattern. I fall asleep pretty good (more like pass out - lol... -
Me, too, with the discharge. It only started after my last pap exam (which was extremely painful for some reason - but it came back normal). I feel I'm perimenopausal, and it has something to do with it. Mine is dark, and it really stains my underwear - I use bleach along w/tide unscented/soak it; but it doesn't come out. Plus, I've noticed I seem to be...

ARCHIVED I'm A Noob, But This Ticks Me Off!
Di-gfree replied to A-Swiss's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've come to dislike grocery shopping. Not that I don't have the sections I can go to down-pat, it's just so stressful to me. The worst part is going through the cash, and no matter how many times I ask them, write notes to the manager, etc., to keep the conveyor belts clean, they always have something white/powdery and suspect on them. So, I have to go through... -
