  1. Hi, Can anyone confirm whether Erewhon Crispy Brown Rice Cereal is definitely gluten-free? I faxed them to ask if there is a chance of cross contamination (ie. whether they make their gluten-free cereal in the same facility that they make their gluten-containing cereal), but haven't heard back yet (I only faxed them yesterday, mind you). But, thought I'd...
  2. The smell of wheat pasta, breads, and even oatmeal while it's cooking, turns my stomach, and can give me a headache. And, I open the windows, or avoid the room for awhile. I cook wheat pasta for family members that are not celiac, and I make sure I wash my hands after touching it, and I don't put my face over the pot because the smell makes me sick. I...
  3. Hi, I have celiac and hashimoto's, and I think I'm ok as far as the celiac goes, seeing as I've been gluten-free for about 14 years. I'm having a hard time sorting out the Hashimoto's (or 'recovering')because it's complex with adrenals, low ferritin, low B12, other hormonal craziness, etc., etc., factoring in. And, I'm thin, too, by the way. How did your...
  4. I used to be able to sing when I was younger - my friend and I sung together all the time. Now, I can't sing at all - think really bad audition on American Idol... I think it's the hypothyroidism for me. Could be the other messed up hormones, too. Could be the celiac. I'm not sure. I get a sore throat a lot, and I think it's my thyroid flaring up because...
  5. I was first diagnosed with celiac, then over a decade later, Hashimoto's (I think I've had the Hashimoto's most of my life); and I've always been thin. I have a very hard time gaining weight, but an extremely easy time losing weight. A couple people exclaimed surprise when I told them that I'm hypothyroid because, yes, the belief is that you're supposed...
  6. Unfortunately, going gluten-free long ago; and now taking desiccated thyroid for Hashimoto's, hasn't decreased my tinnitus or improved my hearing loss (I wear a hearing aid, too). I guess I keep hoping for a magic solution. The mentioning of TMJ intriques me because I think I have problems with that. Also, something interesting was mentioned to me by an...
  7. Oops, that's correct, you can have hypothyroidism with a low tsh - I think it's called Hypopituitary (?); and yes, you should get your pituitary checked out. Even with a high tsh, I still have to get my pituitary looked at because I have high prolactin (which is another test you can probably add to your list, PinkLady).
  8. Hi Pink Lady, I'm pretty sure, if you have *hypo*thyroidism, your TSH would be high (I know mine was when I was diagnosed with Hashimotos). It's *very* important, since celiac is an auto-immune disease, that you test for thyroid anti-bodies (Free T3 and Free T4, too, as was mentioned) because it is more likely that none us has just *one* auto-immune disease...
  9. I've had anxiety most of my life; and the panic attacks started about 25 years ago. It's been crippling, so I can identify. Going on a gluten-free diet (started about 12 years ago) didn't help with the anxiety, for me. It didn't improve many of my symptoms actually; just some. So fast forward to 08, and I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's (which I'm sure...
  10. Hi, I started having panic attacks when I was 21. I was finally diagnosed with celiac when I was 34; and I thought maybe that was what was making me have anxiety, but a strict gluten-free diet did not help significantly, and I still had the panic attacks and anxiety. So, fast forward to 08 (I'm now 45), and I've finally been diagnosed with Hashimoto's...
  11. Shay, I was really surprised. My ferritin hadn't really improved in 10 years since being gluten-free - well, I started at basically zero, and it finally went up to 21, but never higher. I'd never put much effort into taking iron supplements, though - I gave up on pills because they upset my stomach. I hope the Floravit keeps working. Let us know if the Floravit...
  12. The gluten-free formula of Floradix is Floravit. It's what I've been taking for 3 months now. Also very important, to absorb iron, is an optimal B12 level. Both my ferritin and B12 are/were low, so I take the Floravit and sublingual B12 tablets. My ferritin was 21 back in July; I started taking Floravit twice a day - my ferritin went up to 31 after a month...
  13. The big question is, why is there beef broth in fries? Why not just potatoes and oil, and oh yeah, salt?
  14. I started losing my hearing in my early twenties (I'm 45 now). I was diagnosed with otosclerosis (the bones in the ear harden and can't send the sound waves to the brain). I recommend you see a specialist, and have a hearing test. I've had tinnitus since my mid-twenties. It got worse when I went on Synthroid this past July, so I switched to natural thyroid...
  15. Have you had your Vitamin D levels checked, too? If PTH is high, I take it Vitamin D will be low. I have low Vitamin D, and I'm working on getting that up. I still haven't had my PTH checked out. I have been having problems with my teeth, eventhough I do a very thorough job on hygiene. Also, I don't think soy products are a good idea if you have thyroid...
  16. I just started Thyroid (dessicated) in July, and I'm experiencing heavy, weak legs off and on. I have Hashimoto's so I think when I'm in a hyper phase is when it occurs. It is very unpleasant! I practically have to concentrate to get my legs moving. I don't think I'm absorbing the T3 into my tissues (adrenal and iron problems), so I'm pooling the hormone...
  17. Hi, I was diagnosed with celiac in 1997 (had it long before that, though). Just prior to that, and all the years since, I've had fibromyalgia. Long story short - I was just diagnosed with Hashimoto's, too (goes hand in hand with celiac quite often); and fibromyalgia can be one of the symptoms of autoimmune thyroid disease. So, just wondering if you've...
  18. If you don't mind me asking, how did the MRI go?
  19. Specifically, I know you can't say exactly how much - it'll be experimentation for me - but I guess you're saying more than 60mg but less than 105 mgs? Maybe that dosing chart for children wasn't too far off when they said a child of 12 who is 45 kgs would take 81 mgs. I think I have it straight now. I also remember reading in the sttm website...
  20. I read your post; and afterwards a lightbulb went on in my head. Of course, I thought - my doctor is going by his experience with synthetic thyroid. He only has one other patient, other than me, who is taking the dessicated. So, he doesn't realize that dessicated thyroid has the same component's (including calcitonin - sp?) as human thyroid (except in a different...
  21. Fiddle, I guess I shouldn't have assumed you found out about both at the same time. : ) I checked out the pituitary link, Georgie. It's scary stuff; unfortunately, my brain isn't working so hot, and I can never remember what I just read. I wish I was kidding. I got my lab results today. First I'll give the first results of my thyroid panel (this was...
  22. Ya... I noticed that. Maybe I can find one at a yard sale?
  23. Shay, it sounds like all of your hard work is paying off for you! I googled the Rebuilder (hadn
  24. Interesting. It seems dosing would have been easier that way - just going by how the patients feels, and not the TSH. That's what I told my doctor I want to do anyway. He agreed. Which is a good start. Good - glad to hear that. I feel more confident about getting it done. Whew - thank you for the excellent information. I really want to know...
  25. Thanks. I saw that. I was kind of looking for something that gives more exact amounts per kilogram. I'm actually taking dessicated thyroid; but my doctor compared it to the amount of synthroid I would need at my weight. I guess that's the scale he goes by for himself. I tried synthroid for a very short period of time, but I had problems with it....
