  1. One more thing I should mention. I'm glad Ursa told me it is Hashimoto's. But, it's kind of scary that my doctor didn't realize exactly what it is. But, I guess that's to be expected when it comes to auto-immune disease and family doctors? I know I teach my doctor more about celiac than he teaches me, at times.
  2. I agree, the antibiotics would wreak havoc with your natural flora. Plus, there is the 'resistance' factor, as well, isnt there? Where your body could become resistant to antibiotics, and if something life-threatening came along, it wouldn't be good
  3. That's a great website, Ursa Major. I printed out some information, and I'm going to bring it with me to the doctor next time. That's great to hear. Were your symptoms really bad beforehand? I'm so hoping I feel better.
  4. Thank you so much. It was because of reading this forum that I even learned I should be tested for more than just TSH. I was wondering about the anti-bodies, and I have seen Hasimoto
  5. Hi, I got my thyroid test results today, and if you don't mind having a look (I'm in Canada, so the values may differ from the US): TSH 4.86 (Normal range 0.34 - 4.82mIU/L) - So, I'm high. FREE T4 10.99 (Normal range 9 - 24 mIU/L) FREE T3 4.4 (Normal range 3.5 - 6.5) ANTI-TPO 155 (Normal is anything less than 40) - Looks like I'm very high. So,...
  6. I got my results today (I had the thyroid testing done, thanks to the info from this website): I'm in Canada, so I don't know if the values are different in the US. 7. Tim-n-VA, I see what you're saying. My questions though: (Q: Are you anorexic? Q: Do you want me to pick you up a dozen donuts at Tim Horton's to fatten you up? (Tim Horton's is a donut shop here in Canada.) Q. What's wrong with you again? ) were asked by my own mother repeatedly over the years.

  9. I cringe at those Febreeze commercials. The happy homemaker practically sprays the dog. Also, bathroom 'freshener' sprays - ugh. I like fresh air - oh, which reminds me, one of my biggest problems is with the neighbours who have the lawn companies come by and spray pesticides all summer long. I have to keep my windows closed for days in the heat of summer...
  10. I have had swollen lymph nodes in my groin area for years. My doctor's explanation varies from time to time; the last time he said it was because I had mononucleosis when I was a teenager (he had it too, and has chronically swollen lymph nodes, as well). Once you have mono, the virus stays in your body forever. Of course, I'm not sure if this is what's...
  11. I know a man who drenches himself in aftershave. Even if I wasn't sensitive, it would be horrible. And lol @ vapor trail. Someone else notices this? I'm outside quite a bit, and the smell of the "mountain breeze" fabric sheets permeate the neighbourhood at times. I use unscented tide, and 'natural cloth' fabric 'sheets' (not sure how these work...
  12. My dentist didn't have a clue about celiac, either. One year when I went in for my check up and she warned me yet again that my enamel is wearing off, I reminded her of my celiac, and I think she presumed I meant bulemia because she said, "no, that's not it, the acid would eat at the back of your teeth when you throw-up". I haven't thrown up since I had...
  13. I hold my breath, too! I was in a store yesterday, and a lady who was positively coated in perfume seemed to linger around me, and I had to get away from her. Do any of you have family members/friends who really don't get how fragrance/chemicals can be bothersome? They sort of act like you're over-reacting?
  14. Me, too. I get dizzy and woozy, sick to my stomach, a headache, tired. I marvel at how anyone can work in those scented candle stores.
  15. I've always had constipation problems, as well. Sometimes weeks would pass... seriously (even after going gluten-free more than 10 years ago). Right now, I'm finding some success by taking magnesium supplements several times a day. I'm still constipated (ie. stools aren't 'normal') - but the big thing is, I usually (but not always, I sometimes relapse) go...
  16. I have hypoglycemia, too. I've also tested normal for diabetes. I happened to have thyroid testing done recently, and I'm going to see the doctor this week to get the results. I know how awful you feel when you have a hypoglycemic episode. And just a thought, I've been the one (as opposed to my doctor) who researches all of this stuff, and then I go to...
  17. Thanks everyone. I'm sort of thinking it can't be reversed. I have a feeling it must have something to do with inability to absorb certain nutrients. And, if I take too many supplements, my burning mouth problems seem to get worse, so I have to take a break from them every now and then for a few days. I made an appointment to see another dentist to get...
  18. It's very depressing, I take really good care of my teeth, and I'm having gum problems. I developed burning mouth about a year ago (12 years after being diagnosed with celiac), and since then, my gums feel sore and inflamed on a regular basis. I've had gum recession and tooth sensitivity, plus wearing down of my enamel, for years now. And, there doesn't seem...
  19. I have ear problems, too. My eardrums have been broken (not purposely, though) several times, and I have scarring, as well. I developed tinnitus (constant ringing) about 15 years ago. Plus, I have otosclerosis, a disease which causes deafness. I probably only have about 40% hearing? Not sure. I wear a hearing aid in one ear; can't wear it in the other because...
  20. I love gardening, too; and have been taking a stab at spring clean-up this week. I feel I run on empty, though, and nowadays, I don't have the stamina I used to; plus, I'm sore all over even more than ever. Also, the bending over is a problem for me (anyone else?). (Hate to sound like I'm complaining, but that's the way it is for some people with celiac,...
  21. I'm also careful to read the label because some companies will state that the ham is processed in the same plant with wheat, etc, etc. I was going to buy bacon the other day, but noticed this disclaimer, so I didn't buy it. Would this concern anyone else?
  22. I, too, would like to know what do you eat? What are your meals like? Breakfast and lunch would be the most challenging for me. My digestive system seemed to shut down about a year ago after being gluten-free for 10 years. My weight plummeted to 84 lbs. I'm back up to 100 lbs (which is my highest weight in over 10 years); but I'm so afraid to start losing...
  23. I have never been officially diagnosed with endometriosis, although I believe I have it. I do have celiac disease by the way. I have always had painful periods, cramping, pms; but it has lessened in the last couple of years as I believe I have 'entered' perimenopause (however, other celiac related problems have worsened - you can't win ). So, whether...

  25. I think sponges are one of the worst things for holding onto (and therefore breeding) bacteria, any way (not to mention retaining the gluten, I
