ARCHIVED Looking For A Good Brownie Recipe
JustCan replied to Genie Walker's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have no idea how much sugar they have so this might not help, but the Gluten Free Pantry brownie mix is actually quite good. They have instructions for making them dairy free on the box. -
ARCHIVED Anybody Gone Back On Gluten For Biopsy?
JustCan replied to scottyfeelsick's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I did the gluten challenge for about four weeks after being gluten free for about 3 months. I kicked it off with pizza and was really sick by later that night. The four weeks were hell for me to the point that I had to work from home towards the end because I was too sick to go to the office. My biopsy ended up being negative but the doctor did say he... -
Hi All, I am just about 8 weeks pregnant and have several trips scheduled for work over the next 6 weeks. The first is next week and I will be flying from Philadelphia to Texas which is about a 4.5 hour flight. I've already booked a hotel with a kitchen and will be shipping myself a box full of food in advance so I'm good there but here's my two questions...

ARCHIVED Headaches?
JustCan replied to JustCan's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks everyone! My husband already suggested a food diary to him so we'll see what happens. -
Need your expert opinions. We have a friend who is suffering from extremely painful cluster headaches to the point that someone had to drive him home from work today. He's also often very tired and gets sick more than average (colds and stuff). Over the past few weeks, he's been to several doctors and the ER and had tons of tests done. They haven't found...

ARCHIVED Best Value Hotel At Disney World
JustCan replied to fedora's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Disney...I'm jealous! I've stayed at the All Star Music hotel and also all of the moderate hotels. They've all been great. From what I've heard the All Star hotels are all pretty similar. Definitely search this board for Disney information. I was there in January and as the other person said, Disney is like heaven for us gluten free folks. Even counter... -
ARCHIVED Do I Call Myself A Celiac?
JustCan replied to GlutenFree4Life's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I actually have a similar situation. Negative bloodwork when I was already gluten free (uninformed doctor) and then a biopsy that showed "inflammation" after a 4 week gluten challenge (I was so sick!). My primary doc and GI both said I had all the symptoms of celiac but they couldn't diagnose it for sure. At first, I told people I was gluten intolerant... -
ARCHIVED For Those Who Have Been To Disney World....
JustCan replied to jayhawkmom's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Our experience at Disney World was fantastic! Two dinners stand out. One was at Chef Mickey's where Chef Alfonso brought me my own salmon, ribs, and rolls in addition to walking me through what I could eat on the buffet. The other was at Liberty Tree Tavern where Chef Mike made me the best gluten free dessert I've ever had. Delicious. Aside from the... -
Hi All! I know there are a ton of PF Chang's posts out there but I am specifically wondering about the PF Changs in Tyson's Corner in Virginia. I eat at PF Chang's where I live in Pennsylvania and have never had a problem but I have a business lunch next week at the one in Virginia and I'm a little nervous. I'm extremely sensitive to CC and hate risking...

ARCHIVED Dr. Brown's Soda
JustCan posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Anyone know if Dr. Brown's soda is gluten free? It's really popular around Passover which is around the corner. Thanks! -
ARCHIVED Glutened On Multiple Occasions At Pf Chang's
JustCan replied to jmreed's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
The PF Changs location that uses different plates for gluten-free food is in Warrington, Pennsylvania (outside of Philadelphia). It might be worth suggesting that as a standard to their corporate office as you mentioned. Of course, I'm someone who avoids eating out other than PF Changs and a gluten-free pizza place nearby. Hopefully my PF Changs continues... -
ARCHIVED Glutened On Multiple Occasions At Pf Chang's
JustCan replied to jmreed's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
So sorry to hear your wife had a bad experience at PF Changs. At the PF Changs we go to we were told that the gluten-free food will always come out on plates that say "PF Changs" around the rim whereas the regular food comes out on plain white plates. It always seems like someone different brings out the gluten free food and they always say "Gluten Free... -

ARCHIVED Philly Mtg At Abington Hospital
JustCan replied to JustCan's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Just wanted to post that I went to this support group meeting tonight. I had to pay $25 to join the group but it was well worth it. They had several food vendors there so we could try all their different items - lots of yummy cakes, breads, etc. There was also a really interesting author who did a presentation about celiac disease and vitamin deficiencies... -

ARCHIVED Cost Of Endoscopy!
JustCan replied to JustCan's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks for the response. I agree that it's a business and you're absolutely right that doctors push procedures because that's how they make money. That to me is a huge problem. Thanks again! -
ARCHIVED Cost Of Endoscopy!
JustCan posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm doing a little research before I flip out on my doctor. Forgive me for the rant but I also want your feedback. First off, I have a high deductible health plan which means that I pay the full cost of all services until I meet my deductible of $2800. Most days I like my insurance...it has great coverage for preventive care and really low premiums.... -
ARCHIVED Philly Mtg At Abington Hospital
JustCan replied to JustCan's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Thanks Judy! I called Karen Dalrymple but her answering machine says to call someone named Donna. Tried that but she wasn't available. Then I called Abington Hospital's education center that lists the support group on their website but they didn't know anything either - told me to call Karen which I already did. So, I may just go over to Abington Hospital... -
Anyone have any details on the meeting this month at Abington Hospital? I ran into the president of the support group at Bunn's in Southampton (they had a gluten-free tasting event last week) but I didn't catch the date or time. Also, is there a fee to join the group or can anyone attend the meetings? I did come across the website for this support group...

ARCHIVED Anyone In Ambler Pa?
JustCan replied to FlourShopGirl's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Check out the Wegman's in Warrington if you haven't already. It's on 611 at the corner of Street Rd. That store's been a lifesaver for me. They put a "G" on all their store brands to indicate what's gluten free. Makes it really easy and cuts down on cost. -
We just got back from Disney and the other posters are exactly right about how wonderful Disney is with food issues. I emailed the special diets department ahead of time and they sent me several attachments with what I could eat and where (the contact I emailed was brenda.bennett@disney.com). We also made dinner reservations for every night in advance and...

ARCHIVED Anyone In Ambler Pa?
JustCan replied to FlourShopGirl's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I'm in Upper Dublin (Dresher). If you go to www.celiaccentral.org, you'll find info about the center that's based in Ambler. I've been thinking about signing up to volunteer with them since they're right nearby... -
ARCHIVED Colgate Toothpaste
JustCan posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi All! I've seen other posts that say Colgate is gluten free so a few weeks ago I started a new tube of Colgate toothpaste (had been using Crest before that). Well, over the next week and a half I was getting increasingly sick. My husband and I couldn't figure out what was contaminating me. We scrubbed the kitchen (he eats mostly gluten free with me... -
ARCHIVED Business Travel - What To Do?
JustCan replied to JustCan's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Thanks so much for your suggestions! Unfortunately, human resources is outsourced and not very helpful in most situations. We have to do everything by phone. I can try talking to my manager about not having them expense food for me so I have a little more flexibility. Our meal allowance is only $40 a day which really isn't much if I'm in a major city... -
I need some advice. I have to travel fairly often for my job. These are usually team meetings or other group events/conferences. My department plans them and always brings in pizza, sandwiches, etc for lunch. Then we go out for dinner with planned menus of crab cakes and pasta. I haven't had to deal with this much since going gluten free but I have a...
