  2. After reading your other post, do you think your mom could be sabotaging you? She seems quite mentally unstable and maybe she's testing you (for whatever reason, maybe god told her to)by contaminating your food. I hate to say it, but she seems pretty loony.
  3. WOW ! You just made me feel so much better about any little problems with my own family I may have been experiencing. I agree with much of what was said above. It is highly likely that your mom is an undiagnosed celiac and the effects are manifesting as some sort of wicked dementia. Good luck to you and your brother!

    ARCHIVED Bread

I just gave up bread completely for a long while because I could not find one to satisfy me. They all kind of crumbled or dissolved when I bit in to them. None had the right chew, density or smell that bread was supposed to have. Now I make my own, I like the "Crusty Sorghum Bread" recipe in Shauna James Ahern's book "Gluten-Free Girl" you can find an...
  5. Yep, what she said. My symptoms were 70% gone in the first few days, almost completely within a month. Now, 2 1/2 years later, when I get glutened the symptoms hit me hard and fast. Some are worse than they ever were before, some are new. That lasts from 3-7 days or more if it hits my immune system and I get sick.
  6. Wow, thanks! How obvious, why didn't I think of that?
  7. CC = cross contamination (the bane of us all) C D = celiac disease Gluten-free = gluten-free C-F = casein-free DH = dermatitis herpetiformis (sp?) D = diarrhea C = constipation Dx = diagnosis Rx = prescriptions Those are the ones I have figured out so far! Good Luck.
  8. I am almost 40 now and was not diagnosed until about three years ago. I have had symptoms almost all of my life and now have severe bone loss/osteoporosis, painful crippling rheumatoid arthritis, a plethora of GI complications, my immune system is shot, I just found out I may have ocular rosacea and the list goes on and on. This all comes from the years of...
  9. Thanks, I do have rosacea. I've had it for many years, but it's not nearly as bad now as it used to be. I will have to do some research on ocular rosacea, though. I've never heard of that.
  10. I am not taking any magnesium suppliments, but I do try to eat foods containing it. I suppose from being glutened so many times, I'm not absorbing nutrients as well as I should. Any suggestions? I just started taking b12 because of my energy level etc. Plus, I don't have a doctor.
  11. I was just wondering if this might be why I keep getting sick. But, I think I need a new dishwasher.
  12. Has this ever happened to any of you? I guess it's celiac related, I've gotten accidentally glutened a few times in the past month and am having many other side effects from it as well. (The last time was yesterday at P.F. Chang's.....we're not safe anywhere.) I have always had a mild version of this, with my eye jumping or eyelid twitching, but it is...
  13. Well, I already knew all of those. Just some medical terminology and some people list their diagnoses with abbreviations or acronyms also the dna and genetic results. Those are the ones I have trouble with. If I can find some specific examples, I'll list them here.
  14. Southerner here too! Born and bred in New Orleans, Louisiana.
  15. Yum! I want some now!
  16. Well, I still don't know about ED.......but a POS is a Piece of $#!t.
  17. Thanks! I never was a "white bread" type of girl anyway, but for some reason lately, I've been having a craving. I'm off to find Kinnickinnic's Italian white bread or Glutino's Fiber Bread, wish me luck!
  18. Ah, I was just having a "I miss grilled cheese" moment. I react to everything! No way I could try it unless I had a guarantee, and then I'm not even sure I would. I was mostly wondering about people's opinions and if anyone had a nutritionist's view.
  19. I was wondering what some of you thought about the acceptance of 20ppm of gluten as Gluten-free in Europe. I was considering buying a few bread mixes etc. from a Gluten-free company in Norway and then read on their site about the Codex Alimentarius, the European food safety standard which allows this stuff called Codex wheat-starch. It has a trace amount...

    ARCHIVED Ugh

I usually make sure with the manufacturer if a product is not specifically labeled Gluten-free. The last time I didn't do that, I got poisoned. I was so excited to find a convenience product in Sam's that I could eat. It was chicken Marsala and it said "just add your own pasta." I ran home and made some Tinkyada fettuccine and baked this delicious looking...
  21. It really has been hard, she lost her friends that she grew up with and it was her 8th grade year....that's so important. Then we moved to Florida, she made a whole new set of friends, we had to move again to a FEMA trailer in Mississippi, whole new school...whole new set of friends, then we had to uproot her again when we were finally able to buy a new house...
  22. She has lately been trying to eat a little healthier and actually asked about doing yoga with me. I am going to explain to her that yoga should include a total mind/body regimen. Maybe then we can work out a Gluten-free plan for her. I just really wish the rest of my family could see that even though it may be difficult to adjust to at first, a gluten...
  23. I believe she is going through a period of rebellion and would not listen to anything anyone says right now. She knows all too well about the pre-existing conditions she has had her whole life and ignores them now as well. I really think she just has a need to fit in, we lost everything in hurricane Katrina, we have had to move around a lot and she is now...
  24. I might have to try that second approach. They already know the first. They saw what a mess I was pre-Gluten-free and how much improved I am now, but still..... My brother thinks I should be waiting around for a magic pill to get rid of my celiac disease when in actuality, Celiac disease was the answer to my prayers. All I ever wanted was a drug-free...
