  1. Zoloft is what's killing your libido. I know this from experience! Most definitely! Anxiety and depression are coming from being glutened. I totally agree with those who said to look for hidden gluten. Check shampoo, body wash, lotion, even your girlfriend's products as well as medications, supplements etc. Something is sneaking in. Your symptoms sound...
  2. Hi Knit, I make a casserole that my family flips for, but I call it Baked Corn Grits. It is kind of a souffle without the fuss. First I make the grits..... 3 cups milk 2 cups water 1 Tbs. butter 1 bay leaf 1/2 tsp. cayenne (or smoked paprika if you want it milder) 1/2 tsp. salt, or more to taste (smoked sea salt if you have it)...
  3. I can't remember where I got this recipe, it may have been here. These are delicious and pretty darn easy (this coming from a devout non-baker!) Pillsbury style crescent rolls 1/2 stick butter room temperature (unsalted butter) 1/4 cup small curd cottage cheese 1/2 cup cream cheese 1/2 tsp cider vinegar 1 cup gluten-free flour mix...
  4. Absolutely right on target! You know the best way to handle this type of situation. I agree with everything you said, even the "allergic to wheat etc." part. It is the best way to convey our need without giving a medical terminology lesson to an already busy restaurant staff. They know how to handle allergies (like peanut, egg, milk) so it is the simplest...
  5. Oy! I really feel for you. I just kind of "took over" Thanksgiving. I cook everything and it's at my house. Everyone offered to bring food, but I assigned them other things like bringing a game for everyone to play, flowers or a nice bottle of wine. If you must go somewhere else, bring a few sides and eat those. I think the Cornish hen idea is great...

    ARCHIVED Specialists?

Maybe a nutritionist or dietitian. You need to know how important it is to stick to the gluten-free lifestyle. A little cheating here and there can do a lot of damage. Where are you going outside of the US? Many places in Europe are much easier to deal with when it comes to eating Gluten-free. In places like Finland and Sweden (I believe) they even have...
  7. Same thing happened to me. My Gluten-free rice pasta came with a 'regular' shell pasta noodle in it. I found it after my fifth bite. The shock of seeing that on my plate helped me to have one of the most immediate reactions ever! Amen to that!
  8. Absolut is made from wheat. I know they say it's Gluten-free, but I get a strong reaction from it. It took me a while to figure it out, but Absolut makes me sick. That was my drink, I kept a bottle in my freezer. Now I have to drink rum, wine or if I can find some, sorghum beer.
  9. Why not just look up recipes on the internet? That way you have all the cookbooks you could ever want. I really love this site Open Original Shared Link she posts easy and economical recipes. All of them are gluten-free, many are vegetarian or vegan. Karina's recipe for Sweet Potato Black Bean Enchiladas is (delicious, and) one of six finalists up for...
  10. It all depends on the person, the offending item and the situation. Every one has a different reaction, mine takes about 10 minutes from the first bite, usually. I have had immediate reactions and some that did not start until the next morning. Most times I get the headache/brain fog first, then gut issues, then pain and inflammation, but sometimes the...
  11. You could have sprinkled them on top of the buns, like sesame seeds! Now you can stir some in to whole grain mustard, to spread on the bun, or mix some flax right into your burgers before grilling!
  12. I would never go to any restaurant without calling ahead and speaking with the chef or kitchen manager first. I also would not go during a busy time. Finally, I hope they told the boy he could not have the scrambled eggs or omelets at IHOP, they add pancake batter to 'fluffy the eggs up' a bit.
  13. Pork tenderloin stuffed with prunes Stick a long thin knife through the pork tenderloin to make a cavity and stuff full of prunes. Season outside with salt, pepper, and dust with rice flour. Brown on all sides in olive oil in a very hot pan. Set pork aside and add 1 tablespoon butter and 1 chopped onion to the pan. Saute until onions are golden and...
  14. I come from a huge Sicilian family that thinks food=love and pasta+bread=food so they get personally hurt if anyone refuses to eat their food. I just had to learn to say no, period. I had MAJOR cravings for quite a long time, but not anymore. Gluteny things just do not mean food to me anymore. Someone posted here once that processed wheat has opiate like...
  15. I have exactly the same arthritic reactions in my hands and feet. It is just much worse when I get glutened and this time is effecting my ankle severly. Sometimes it 'attacks' my hip, shoulder, knee, toes, wrist, one finger in particular etc. I also had the same problem w/ the grip on small tools. I buy a battery operated toothbrush simply for the benefit...
  16. I, too, add flax meal to everything. I have tried golden and brown and I do not see much of a difference. Besides the price. I throw it in yogurt, smoothies, burgers, pralines, oatmeal, homemade turkey sausage, sauces, curried vegetables, muffins, banana pancakes, granola, chex mix, chili, cookies, brownies, sweet potato casserole, meatballs, mac and cheese...
  17. I am having a very similar reaction right now, but I almost always assume any joint pain and swelling came from gluten. I had to purchase an ankle brace it's so bad this time. I have to keep it propped up and apply ice packs to keep the swelling down. I,too, am quite sensitive to even the slightest cc. I usually get D soon afterward, but not every time...
  18. .....that's why we can't nurse while drinking a bottle of Pinot?
  19. It has been awhile, but I do remember my daughters both reacting to foods that I ate. These were not gluten reactions, but it seems to be the same premise. They had gas pains etc. when I ate certain foods.
  20. migraines depression anxiety mania dizziness vertigo irrational fears passing out floating spots before my eyes sudden blurred vision tunnel vision severe eye pain and twitching adult acne ear infections sinus infections 50% of allergy symptoms ulcers in mouth infected tonsils constant back pain (75% gone) rheumatoid arthritis pain/swelling...
  21. Don't do it! Some people have NO immediate response, but gluten still does the long term damage. Just wait. You will most probably get accidentally glutened soon enough. Everybody screws up in the beginning, still unsure of how to find hidden gluten. Some 'natural flavors' will be hiding in your favorite chips or 'hydrolyzed protein' in your shampoo. ...
  22. I just brought "Chex Mix" to a party this past weekend and no one noticed the missing wheat and corn chex at all. They loved it, it tastes exactly the same!
  23. I am VERY sensitive to even the tiniest amount of gluten in foods, and I can eat them. No problems. Sometimes, (maybe 3x per year) I just need some mickey d's fries!
  24. YES! Just do a search for "Constipation" and see how many posts you find.
  25. There are many Gluten-free brands that make a jarred beef 'base' it is basically a highly concentrated seasoned beef flavored paste that is stirred into water to create a beef stock. You could substitute a spoonful of that for the au jus packet.
