  1. Scott, Please pardon my brain damage. I absolutely agree that the question of Celiac status should not be on a job application or in a job interview. But it should be accommodated for after hiring. I do not see celiac genes as defective. Rather, I see reliance on wheat as defective, and here’s why: The “Ancestral Haplotype” contains the DQ 2.5 gene,...
  2. I would like to see a survey of experienced celiac patients (2 years on the diet or more) who are in a technical career where you create (like code, for instance) with a computer and collaborate with others and the situation you commonly experience is someone says “Let me drive” and grabs your keyboard and mouse. The question for the survey is “Would you l...
  3. For celiacs like I and serafina, who have gluten ataxia and other neurological symptoms, mere listing of ingredients is not enough. Steven rated “gluten-free” with 5 different ratings, 1 indicating that the manufacturer does testing of the I product for gluten, 2 being no listed plant sources of gluten. Remember that ingredients can be contaminated, and my ...
  4. For 16 years I have relied on the website glutenfreedrugs.com to determine if a pharmaceutical is gluten-free. The website has been down for at least a week. Does anyone have any information about this outage, the status of the website founder and maintainer pharmacist Steven A. Plogsted or a phone number? I did not get a response for my email to glutenfreedrugs...
  5. Thanks for clearing that up.
  6. This comes from the work of Dr. Carl C. Pfeiffer Ph.D., M.D. I edited my post, indicating this is what my primary care MD told me. I apologize. Here is a link to a discussion, but this is not where I got my information: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread30724.html Also: http://www.raysahelian.com/pyridoxal5phophatep5p.html This explains it best...
  7. I just came across this thread, which has been going a long time. I have the problem, too, and it's obviously hereditary, in both my parents and their relatives. Some of you have not gotten any relief from the gluten-free diet. I get the anger when glutened, but for me, there is something else that keeps it going longer, and causes the problem by itself....
  8. I have had a gluten-like reaction with chicken, but not all chicken. I have been told that any liquid that is injected into chicken would be broth containing gluten. So try some expensive fresh organic chicken. The cheep frozen chicken is likely to be injected with broth.
  9. If you have casein intolerance, like I do, you just have to avoid it like gluten. It's a different issue from lactose intolerance, and the pills won't help. There can be many different causes of joint pain, including arthritis. Other autoimmune diseases are associated with celiac. Other food sensitivities can be involved. I do suggest testing for additional...
  10. Gluten, or any food for that matter, does not necessarily get digested and metabolized before entering the blood stream. That is only what is supposed to happen. I have been shown partially digested fragments of food in my blood, under a microscope. That's from a leaky gut, with a lot of damage. People can have a leaky gut from other things, like a medication...
  11. I can really relate to being sick and tired of being sick and tired. A former coworker even wrote, sang and recorded a song about that for me. You are on the right track with all of this: the leaky gut, the candidiasis, the scd, the tests you want. I knew I had the leaky gut and candidiasis before I heard of gluten. Listen to your body. I spent thousands...
  12. My TSH was in range also. My doctor prescribed Armour eventually anyway. It really helps. She told me to take it every 4 hours, and if I'm late, I absolutely crash.
  13. I absolutely agree that consuming any amount of gluten is not a good idea for erikamarie.
  14. Yes, Echen, I have celiac, and this is one of my worst symptoms. After going gluten-free, from 2 weeks to 6 weeks I had a honeymoon period, where I did not have to go to my chiropractor. Then, due to a leaky gut and developing a lot of other food intolerances, the pain came back. I had it under control with a lot of foods eliminated, then after 4 years, the...
  15. What do you mean you have no ideas? You have plenty, and I can give you more. I'm extremely limited, due to my leaky gut. I can't do nightshades. I kept getting more sensitive, and I do get hit by fumes - symptoms are not as bad nor last as long - it affects me gastrointestinally and neurologically for 1 and a half to 3 months, whereas...
  16. Dani, I should mention also that I have exhausted adrenals and need to take thyroid, despite normal thyroid labs, or I can easily "crash".
  17. Sorry about the misfire, folks. I'm a little ADD and my computer and connection are too slow. I must disagree with both of these statements. I caution anyone with possible celiac disease who has been gluten free for 2 months, especially those who have been gluten-free for 6 months, against gluten challenges. Your immune system will likely be hair...
  18. OK, more dedicated gluten-free restaurants, which I have not been to, in Colorado there is Coquettes Bistro and Bakery: Open Original Shared Link in Massachusetts there is Idgy's: Open Original Shared Link Get out and support these places, or they will be gone, like the others.
  19. IrishHeart, Thanks for the links, organization is not my forte. As for totally gluten free restaurants, the ones I have been to probably don't compare to Sherry Lynn's. In the Chicago area, there are: Rose's Wheatfree Bakery and Cafe Open Original Shared Link OMG It's Gluten Free Bakery and Cafe Open Original Shared Link In the future, there...

ARCHIVED Doctors Who Have No Clue

Is it on your lower rib on the left side in front? There is a trigger point there for your small intestine, says my MD, who is probably one of the most gluten-literate family practice physicians in the country. I'm a celiac who has been gluten-free for 4.5 years, and in the last 6 months, there have still been times when the pain there is just killer in the...
  21. I just started posting last night, and subscribed to several forums and topics, but I have no notifications listed. Did I neglect to complete the process?
  22. These are all good suggestions. It is not just the flour in the air that could be the culprit. I found, and learned from another ultra-sensitive celiac, that I get glutened if I am smelling wheat baked goods strongly and breathe it. What is even worse is being in the house when someone is boiling wheat pasta. The steam does put particles in the air. I had...
  23. I am much older, and bicycle. I had a Great Plains Lab Organic Acids test. One of the recommendations was to take AKG (Alpha KetoGlutarate). I have to take AAKG 1500-3000 mg an hour before cycling, or I can be wiped out for 1 to 3 days. I will still be wiped out if I cycle more than an hour and 15 minutes. There are indications I have a krebs cycle problem...
  24. I was diagnosed 4.5 years ago. I am a very sensitive and symptomatic celiac, with symptoms running the gamut, from gut to brain, muscles to skin and bones, etc. I was having brain and skin symptoms, but not gut symptoms, after inhaling too much gluten one day, being downwind of restaurants and bakeries. So, I had the test done, after my doctor had forwarded...
  25. I am cane sugar sensitive and dairy-free. I have finally found 2 raw cacao choices at my local Whole Foods. I add EatRaw Imported & Certified Organic Really-Raw Chocolate Powder to shakes. Renee's Raw Chocolate (www.reneesrawchocolate.com) is expensive, but awesome. The kind I buy has coconut on it, but she makes some without. Everything is organic...
