bakingbarb replied to bakingbarb's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thank you thank you thank you Oh my gosh that is such good information and it is hard because it seems like you have to check every brand. I seem to be in one of those moments when I am so frustrated by this stuff. -
ARCHIVED Gourmet Chocolate
bakingbarb replied to bakingbarb's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I had to ask! Here is the response they gave me and let me say they responded asap. SIGH, SOB, WAHHHHHHH Dear Barb, Thank you for your email. I apologise for the confusion and we shall address this issue all of our products do contain gluten due to the environment they have been produced in. I am sorry for any disappointment this may cause and... -
ARCHIVED Gourmet Chocolate

It is getting very frustrated not trusting Hershey to provide a candy we can eat. The information is so confusing but let's face it, they as a company do not address this issue properly anyways. My daughter looked online for a safe but yummy chocolate and she found this company, Open Original Shared Link. They straight up address the issue of gluten but... -

ARCHIVED Martha Stewart Living April Issue
bakingbarb posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
The article is mainly about eating flourless desserts, not gluten free but there are some nice recipes. A friend of mine that gets the mag pointed it out to me so I went and bought it. There is a nice crust recipe that would work wonderful for any cheesecake or tarts. MMM key lime tart with a coconut crust is what I want to do with that crust! -
I am starting to double check products now so I called the company to find out if there are hidden glutens anywhere in their foods. The response was they will not include any hidden gluten with out a warning on the label, so nothing hidden in the natural flavoring. I thought this was good to know!

I found this Open Original Shared Link when I was looking for a gluten free guide to a specific restaurant. So nice that this info is out there. "Many restaurants around the United States and around the world are finding that it is relatively easy and makes good business sense to accommodate those with food allergies/intolerances. Some restaurants...

I found a very interesting bit of writing by Open Original Shared Link, the way she explains things makes it easy to understand. This will help me stay away from more foods now. -
ARCHIVED Cost Of Baking
bakingbarb replied to bakingbarb's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have been wondering about that bit with guar gum also. Heck it is in so many mainstream products that if it were a huge issue would it still be there? I am not saying I trust corporate America to tell me what is or isn't good but I still think if it were that bad it wouldn't be there. Sugar free sweeteners cause issues if you eat too much of them but they... -
ARCHIVED Soda Pop
bakingbarb replied to bakingbarb's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
David, I have not heard of that before. The only thing similar was V8 and beer or apple cider and beer, neither of which sound good to me! I am getting very confused on all this stuff, caramel color is or isn't safe? One place I read it is another place I read it isn't. Obviously there is a lot of misinformation. -
ARCHIVED Soda Pop

Well then that might explain a few things!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just when I think I have this figured out I learn something else. Why on earth did I not understand this? -
ARCHIVED Cost Of Baking
bakingbarb replied to bakingbarb's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I was reading a blog the other day and she mentioned using some other natural things because they help hold the food together also. Now if only I can remember which blog it was!!!!! I will look for it today. My daughter had about 18 kids over and about 15 of them spent the night. These are teens btw.... lol most of the parents want to know if I am partly... -
ARCHIVED Everyday Minerals - Great gluten-free Mineral Make-up!
bakingbarb replied to Mango04's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have been using bare minerals for a couple of years now but after reading some of this post I want to check out the other make up. The bare minerals makes my face tingle sometimes and it almost always feels dry afterwards. So I can order samples of this make up? -
ARCHIVED Soda Pop
bakingbarb replied to bakingbarb's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hmmm, I am having some issues from something then and I dont know what. Day in and day out I am fine and then all of a sudden when I started drinking the pop I got sick so I assumed that was it. If it isn't the pop then I am going to have to figure it out. I was drinking the pop at home so I just assumed it was the issue. Of course after I gave up the... -
I guess this was foolish on my part but I never ever considered soda an issue, although I do not drink it often and usually drink sprite anyways. I was drinking Dr. Pepper about a week ago and I got the big D big time and for the life of me I couldn't figure it out. Caramel color I assume is the issue? Makes me sick just to think about it. I need to review...

bakingbarb replied to Moongirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have been eating cadbury mini eggs for about week now as they have always been my fav holiday candy. But I have had the mini d this week too and it is the only thing new so no more for me -
Its especially bad because we get so sick from this and they just don't get it, but everytime they act like they do. Last time she assured me wheat wasn't in any of my food, oh that was the last time I was sicker then I care to remember. I looked on the website and I can't find contact information anywhere. If we ever do go there again, I will ask to...

ARCHIVED Cost Of Baking
bakingbarb replied to bakingbarb's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Wow, you are getting some great deals. There is a couple of large asian markets not far from me but I keep forgetting to go check them out. I tried grinding my own to save money but my vita mix isn't doing such a good job, I think it is feelings its age or something. Somewhere I saw xanthan gum for quite a bit less and I told myself to remember... -
I have to laugh a lot about this, my gluten baking friends are moaning about the higher cost of wheat which is causing their flour to go way up. HA, try baking gluten free!

I loved eating there when before I knew about the gluten but since then every time I eat there I get so sick. I talk to the server every time and they always act like they understand but something happens every time. Last time there were strips of fried tortillas under my nachos, I wanted to throw up then. I think I will email them and see how mgmt responds...

ARCHIVED The Most Delicious Home-made Gluten Free Bread I've Ever Tasted...
bakingbarb replied to mamatide's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I am going to take this whole thread and try and re-post just the tips and hints and recipe suggestions. Knowing me it will be finished next year LOL Seriously I am going to try and get this done this week. That was on our list of places to go to! We got tired because we try to cram a bunch of stuff into a couple of days and then we... -
We headed to the brew supply shop in Greenwood (145th and Greenwood) and low and behold there was sorghum syrup for gluten free beer. We bought the last one on the shelf. The beer was brewed up Saturday and is now fermenting. My hopes are high because even if it doesn't taste much different then say RedBridge, it is still better because we made it! We are...

I had forgotten all about A.P. Barbara's (and me named Barb, go figure!)so I went there the other day and had a delish lunch. Thank you so much for reminding me about them as they are not far for me and even though the food is so good, I don't feel like I have to get dressed up to go. I found there is a Outback Steakhouse just north of me, I wasn't aware...

ARCHIVED Let's Experiment
bakingbarb replied to lpellegr's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
It rose to freakish heights because you didn't let it raise enough before putting it in the oven. The term oven spring comes to mind! LOL The yeast got warm and GREW rather quickly when you first put it. Next time take the amount of time it is supposed to rise and reduce that by 10 min or so but the dough has to be raised before you put it in the oven or... -
When I read around the net about baking gluten-free I happened across some info on sweet potato flour. Now, where do I find it? Here are some links with info if you are interested Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link
