I didn't think anything with the name bran in it would be safe for gluten free so I looked it up. NOTHING by Kellogg is safe for you/us. Do you have any gluten-free products? Answer: At this time, we do not offer products suitable for consumers on a gluten-free diet except as follows: Kellogg's

ARCHIVED Overweight With Celiac Disease...is It Possible?
bakingbarb replied to susie-q's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
you pretty much summed me up! Underweight and weight loss, nope not me! The asthma too, it went away when gluten did. When I ate it felt like my stomach was pressing into my lungs and I couldn't breathe, if I tried to work out I felt like I was going to pass out because I wasn't breathing! I too listened to my stomach and you guessed it, here we are! I... -
ARCHIVED Can Anyone Reccomend A Doctor In Washington State?
bakingbarb replied to hadabaday2day's topic in Doctors
I haven't found a Celiac Dr. I was hoping someone posted one here already, that is what I was looking for when I found this thread. I did find one online once in the Seattle area but it was a cash only Dr's office. I finally have insurance I am going to use it! But after reading that insurance will deny people new coverage if they are Celiac I am not sure... -
ARCHIVED Do Non-gluten Flours Need Cooked?
bakingbarb replied to one more mile's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Do you mean regular wheat/white flour? There is not an additive that is put in it but it isn't easy to digest raw in the first place. Gluten free flours don't have stuff in them but they don't taste good, the bean flours are indigestible raw. -
This has nothing to do with the gluten. Digesting apples and uncooked vegetables can be hard on some tummies. There probably is a name for it!

ARCHIVED What Is Your Favorite Pre-gluten-free Food?
bakingbarb replied to ang1e0251's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Here is some more info regarding this:Open Original Shared Link Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon talks about presoaking grain in an acid changes the gluten. Don't quote me as its late at night and I no longer own the book. I am going to see if I can get it at the library and re-read it to see what she was talking about. -
ARCHIVED Clould This Be The Answer?!
bakingbarb replied to bakingbarb's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The issue is in the stomach so this bypasses that issue, I have read this is as effective as the shots. The Dr visit was interesting. She did blood work and I am low in my D and my B was high because I am taking the sublingual. I don't know what anything else was because she didn't mention it over the phone. When I go see her I will find out the rest... -

bakingbarb replied to puggirl's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants

Did you go to Yakima already? Did you have any luck with restaurants? I find a good way to find reviews of good restaurants in the first place is to go on Open Original Shared Link That way I know whats in the town and can contact them for gluten free options.

We ordered a gluten free pizza from the Mukilteo Garlic Jims. I wasn't highly impressed with it but it is nice to have the choice and for that I am happy. I preferred the pizza from Romios in Greenwood but its night out for us to go there. Mukilteo Garlic Jims is just down the street which is a great thing! It gets spendy ordering gluten free pizza though...

ARCHIVED Bourban Whiskey
bakingbarb replied to BamBam's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Very good points. People that are not Celiac have the same attitudes and reactions to alcohol. Some won't drink one brand it makes them have a hangover but another is fine. It would seem when it comes to alcohol it all depends on the individual person anyways. -
ARCHIVED Crumbly Muffins
bakingbarb replied to GlutenGalAZ's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
The first time I baked anything gluten free it was cornbread and no xanthan gum, it wasn't crumbly but instead puffed up while baking and went over the edges of the pan. LOL I went looking for what was in other recipes that was missing in mine. Xanthan gum. I know some bake successfully with out it but I am not one of them. I would suggest when you try... -
ARCHIVED Malabsorption - Celiac Disease = Catastrophe Living
bakingbarb replied to Ms. Skinny Chic's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Rumbles, omg you have described me to a T! It seems near to impossible to find a Dr that understands Celiac much less the other issues. By my own research I am solving my own issues. Do you have gastric reflux, periods of rapid heartbeat (especially at night) and/or almost-daily (or nightly) allergies? It is as though you know me!!!! I just... -
ARCHIVED Malabsorption - Celiac Disease = Catastrophe Living
bakingbarb replied to Ms. Skinny Chic's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am suffering myself and have done a lot of research. Malabsorption is killing me is how I feel. I just posted something about this the other day. The link explains it quite well. When you have malabsorption caused by Celiac your body loses the nutrients you need such as B12 and without B12 you CANNOT absorb nutrients from your food. You become anemic... -
ARCHIVED Pasta Recipe Any Good?
bakingbarb replied to songstressc's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips

ARCHIVED Tactless! But Funny...
bakingbarb replied to shan's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Form the cookies into balls and freeze them then bake frozen. It helps them to hold their shape. -
Celiac untreated causes malabsorption, which leads to vitamin deficiencies. Without B12 you have malabsorption issues, which leads to the BIG D. The BIG D leads to more malabsorption and the vicious cycle goes on and on and on... SO I started taking the sub-lingual B at the beginning of this week and this is the first time I haven't had the BIG D every...

Yeah, I am in the middle of the ill effects of eating something but for me it is pure guess work as to what made me sick. And when I say sick I mean full blown The step son did some cooking yesterday with his girlfriend, they made french toast (gluten FULL), bacon and canned hash. I ate some bacon. I am pretty sure that was the stupidest thing I have...

ARCHIVED Gluten-free Food And Teenagers
bakingbarb replied to Picky Eater's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You and I are in the same boat here with the gluten. My daughter is 16 and refuses to deal with it at all. I am not going to force her so please no one suggest that. She is doesn't understand fully the ramifications but she has said she doesn't get sick enough for it to make it bad enough for her to not eat it all the time. It is hard enough being a teen... -
EXACTLY what I was looking for to describe it, the traveling itchies! No rash either. I realized today that I had been glutened somehow over the last day or so. The traveling itchies must have been a reaction. Now I just have to figure out where it came from (sometimes I think that is impossible and just move on to the next day!).

I have no idea if this is gluten related and I don't see how it could be but who knows. If I get any its pure accident/cc'd kind of thing. Regardless I can't deal with this, its driving me crazy... I get an "itch" on my neck then my nose then my back then my arm then my tummy then my head then my leg and so on. Its a tingle and sometimes it just a tickle...

Laura, this is me exactly. I was hoping I wasn't the only one. I am with you on the its not just hunger its STARVING and growling and I wake up so hungry its all I can think about. I too drink water and eat lots of nuts. I tend to eat meats and spuds and veggies, eggs and rice. I don't bake much anymore either so not eating that as much. My biggest downfall... -
