Geez, this is so much fun I'm almost glad i gotsa diseeez! Careful, RiceGuy, you're dating yourself. You know who Mr. Whipple is! He hasn't been around in years, has he? So what we have here is a sting operation with the "Whipple" incognito, attempting to FLUSH out a hardened criminal? Hope it isn't by a smear campaign!

I am choking on my lunch, laughing. That is sooo funny. I have this mental image of you in trench coat and hat with dark glasses as you lurk up to some guy on a street corner and ask "Spst! Hey buddy...you carry'n? I'm lookin' to score some 3-ply with lotion, hold the scent and color!"
-
I don't know about that but I can assure you that one slice will make you swear that it has petrified in your stomach!

Thanks for the info on the blog. I will check it out. Looked at buying the book on Amazon but I will try your suggestion first. I have made gluten free ravioli and it is wonderful! My homemade ravioli has always been my Dad's favorite dish when he comes to my house and because it is frankly a lot of work to prepare, I usually only make it when he visits...

I will have to pick up a copy of "Gluten Free Girl". It sounds interesting and encouraging. Actually, my husband and I both really love to cook, when we aren't pressed for time. Being a type 1 diabetic makes it a bit more of a challenge in that sometimes by the time I get home from work, if there isn't something handy and I my blood sugar is low...

 Hmmm. electrocution, lethal injection, hanging, gluten poisoning...yep that would be right up there on the public outrage list! Personally I agree with debmidge. Ener-g brown rice bread would fall more in line with the cruel and unusual punishment and could be used as a murder weapon or when sliced properly, as a support for a sagging matress!...

And his sentence....20 years to life in a prison bakery!

All very good points. And thanks for the help, Riceguy. I knew I was in the neighborhood but couldn't find it in our stone aged dictionary here at the office.

Brilliant! And the way they actually get caught is that the CSI's stop at the corner kwik shop to see if there are any witnesses and find that someone???has purchased all of their immodium that was in stock and used a credit card. Dumb enough to use the credit card because they were suffering from extreme brain fog!

   Check out the post in the "Coping" thread.! -
I am putting this rather ridiculous post here but I think it qualifies under the 'coping' thread because one of the ways I have learned to cope with this disease is through humor. On another thread there has been some discussion about people with celiac disease and the fact that many do not have terribly well defined fingerprints. CSI Miami...

Odd topic alert. I was thinking today that where eating used to be such a source of enjoyment for me I used to love to plan meals, try new recipes, cook together with my family and try new restaurants. I've never been just a meat and potatoes girl. Would try just about anything once, including snails and chocolate covered grasshoppers! Since...

Hey, Missy's mom, thanks for that info on the flours. I never would have thought of that! As for the peeps...maybe you should check out RiceGuy's peeps website before you decide that you really love those little critters! I think it's something like www.peepsresearch.com. (Maybe if he's lurking anywhere nearby, he can confirm that.) It is a truly hilarious...

ARCHIVED Does Being Celiac/or gluten-free Effect Your Taste?
silk replied to silk's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks for the replies. Glad to know I'm not the only odd duck on the block. I had been taking Magnesium with Zinc and a good multivitamin but went through such a bad spell with my stomach a couple of weeks ago that I quit taking them and anything else but my necessary meds to see if things would calm down. They did so I will have to try again. I also... -
Loved bread too. Miss it but not enough to want to face the consequences from eating it. I agree that the store bought pretend bread is pretty nasty. I can almost tolerate the light tapioca loaf that I get at my health food store, but only if it is toasted. Most....ack..have such a nasty texture and aftertaste that I swore never to eat bread again. Gluten...

ARCHIVED Does Being Celiac/or gluten-free Effect Your Taste?
silk posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Odd question I'm sure...although since finding this board, I have discovered that there is really no question too odd for this disease. I have noticed since going gluten-free 3 months ago that things taste different to me. For instance, I have always eaten and loved natural unsweetened applesauce. Now when I eat it, no matter what brand, it has almost... -

That's so interesting! I have almost no obvious fingerprints when you look at my fingers. Not sure what a print would show. The eyelash thing made me laugh. So it's like "God taketh away and God giveth"? I may die of a gluten attack or some dreaded side effect of the disease, but hey! What the heck? Won't my eyelashes look great when my eyes are closed... -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed - Cross-contamination Worries
silk replied to Waldz1's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Waldz1, and if you're new here, welcome. I have only been at this since November 07, and it is hard, but I think that it helps if you can put this into perspective. Being careful of what we put into our bodies is so difficult that it is sometimes hard to focus on anything else. But having the stomach pain, GI problems, D and all that goes with ingesting... -
ARCHIVED 3 Positve Things About Celiac Disease...
silk replied to silk's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Gee, I love cheese! Too bad I seem to have a lactose problem too. Maybe I could be a guinea pig! I am happy for your friend. Actually I eat sugar. Not copious amounts of course but I have reactions to the artificial sweeteners. I have so many people say to me 'Oh, you can't have sugar." What a huge misconception. A diabetic can eat anything anyone... -

Thank you. I hadn't heard of Dr. Clark or read her information but you can bet I will now! (See...another positive!) Actually, I'm very interested to see what she has to say as I was taking 50 units of Lantus insulin at bedtime 4 years ago and cut that wayyyyy down with diet and exercise and dropping 40 lbs but after living the gluten-free lifestyle, well... -

ARCHIVED 3 Positve Things About Celiac Disease...
silk posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Other than the lack of symptoms, GI and otherwise...which is a given, there have been at least three other really positive things that have resulted for me since going gluten free, and just recently nut and lactose free: #1: I am a type 1 diabetic and my husband has always been very supportive and accommodating when dealing with my health issues. However... -

I also have them on only my thumbs and one index finger. I had my B12 levels checked last month and they were fine but I was also taking a supplement so I wonder if that makes a difference. -
Gotta laugh at this because honestly, just about the time that we figured out the Celiac thing for me, I thought I was turning into a barn. I was exercising and eating all of the 'right foods' and still my pants would get so tight around the waistband and it would just hurt to have anything touching my abdomen. I had no clue that you could bloat that much...

You might also want to try one of those rice bags that you can heat up in the microwave. You may have to reheat it periodically but if you fall asleep, there is no danger of burning yourself or causing a fire. You can make one really easily with some sturdy fabric and a large bag of rice. Someone even suggested that you could make a smaller one with a...
