  1. Thanks for the information! Can anyone tell me if, because Biohealth requires a dr. to order the tests, does your health insurance cover them? Also, since by process of elimination I know that I have problems with gluten, is it possible to do conventional testing through my m.d. for other things like dairy, soy, eggs, nuts, etc. so that ins. would cover...
  2. Thanks Yolo, for the advice. I went back on cream of rice cereal, which I seem to tolerate pretty well. I will do that for a few days with nothing to drink but water or rice milk, and take it from there. Desperate to feel better so I am willing to try anything.
  3. I have heard a lot about this here. I'm just wondering if this is a fairly credible diagnosis? (Not doubting anyone, just considering it for myself and am curious) Also, for those who have used it, did you find that your M.D. gave any weight to the results from Enterolab or have they just pooh-poohed it. (Sorry, really bad pun, but intended! ) ...
  4. I have been gluten-free for the past 2 months and I am really surprised daily at the things I am finding out about this disease I did not have the formal testing because frankly, I had already been through several tests for other things, hate going to the Dr., and by the time we figured out that this was probably the answer to my problems, I had already...
  5. I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression 9 years ago when I was first diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. At that time I thought it was just another wonderful inheritance from my mother's side of the family because almost everyone in the family has it. My brother was just diagnosed with bipolar disorder. However, I now wonder. Mom, her brothers and...

    ARCHIVED I Want To Cry

I agree with you! Just when I think I might have it figured out, something else seems to pop up so I too am feeling very confused and frustrated. Thought of trying the elimination diet but that is a daunting undertaking when you have other family members to cook for too. And in answer to your other question, I am finding that if I have problems, ...

    ARCHIVED I Want To Cry

This is good to know I've only been at this a couple of months. Hardly long enough to get a real handle on what besides the gluten is bothering me. And I'm guessing there is because I go for a few days feeling okay and then whammy I back to sharing space with a tub and a sink and a not so comfortable 'chair'. Thinking of putting a t.v. in the bathroom...

    ARCHIVED I Want To Cry

Personal topic here, Lux...but we've all been there. I recently read a really good book that I got from my local library on celiac disease and found that I had a total misconception about what constitutes the big "D". From what the book said....going several days without a movement and having difficulty passing it is constipation. For most of my life I...
  9. Welcome. You are definitely not alone. And I had actually never ever heard of celiac before my doctor started to put 2 and 2 together in November and mentioned that this might be a cause of the GI issues I was having. However, since that time I or my husband have discovered many 'closet celiacs'. I guess we just don't talk much about it to the general...
  10. It's funny (sort of) but I made my own pasta to eat while everyone else ate their toxic stuff and guess what? they tasted mine and liked it better. Everyone commented on how much better the flavor and texture of the quinoa pasta is. So I am dumping any left over toxic noodles from the cupboard and my pasta from now on will be made gluten-free by request...
  11. Hi Amy. In answer to your cereal question...I like Cream of Rice with a small amount of butter and maple syrup. If you can tolerate nuts, sometimes I add a few pecans and some craisins. Be careful of the dried fruit though because some of it is processed in a plant that also processes wheat so be sure to read the package. I also found that my local health...
  12. Justine; I am sorry for your pain and frustration and for all the things that you are feeling right now. I have been a type 1 diabetic for 9 years and discovered the Celiac about 2 months ago, so my situation is what you are going through in reverse. I think the biggest initial reaction to the celiac diagnosis being tacked onto the diabetes was that...
  13. Thanks for the information, Momma Goose. I guess 'outing' yourself as a Celiac in the wheat-producing 'heartland' must not be a very popular thing, huh? Actually, I did a google search of celiac support groups in the Lincoln area and found several listed. Wish I had thought of this sooner. Thanks for your help.
  14. With much respect I would remind you that many of us are new to this board each day, and what may seem to be a much or even overly discussed issue to the 'old timers', it still new and very pertinent to the newbies. I have only been aware that I was a Celiac for the past two months and was very dismayed to find that after being gluten-free, I was having...
  15. Wondering if there are any support groups in Lincoln, NE. Been gluten-free for two months now and I am amazed at what the stores that do support us Celiacs (Hy-Vee!) carry in their product lines, but also dismayed at what most stores do not carry. Also, being a Catholic, receiving the Eucharist has become a very depressing issue. Wondering if there...
  16. This is interesting! I was going to ask the same question about when I could expect to feel 'normal' again. Sorry to say that it's nice to know I'm not alone in this! I have been gluten-free since November and although there are days when I feel relatively good and I am sure that the diet is helping, I still have alot of stomach problems and wonder if I...

    ARCHIVED Corn Chips

Hathor said: " I'm not feeling totally awful, just a little headachy & spacey, and the contents of my intestine suddenly turned into concrete (the clear sign of a glutening in my system). So you don't need to feel bad for me suffering terribly on Christmas or anything cool.gif Just trying to figure all this out." I laughed at this one. Don't know...
  18. I recently purchased some Brown Cow Vanilla Cream Top Yogurt from the health food section of my store. On the label it clearly shows a Certified gluten-free symbol. I opened the carton and placed a small amount in a bowl that I took straight from my dishwasher. I also used a spoon from the dishwasher...because yeah, I'm too lazy to go to the silver drawer...
  19. Thank you all for the excellent advice. Actually, these are really very good friends and after I sent the e-mail talking about some of the challenges of eating gluten free my friend e-mailed back and asked me to tell her all about Celiac disease and gluten intolerance because they had never heard of it and were really interested. I took your advice and...
  20. I have never heard of 'food-combining'. Can you explain what you know and where you heard about it?
  21. MrMark- Isn't it amazing to find other people with similar experiences. Being relatively new at this, you find yourself wondering if you are imagining some of these changes or attributing them to the celiacs when they might not be connect at all until you come here and find people like yourself experiencing the same things. I love this place! I've been...
  22. Just had a friend (who does know about the gluten thing) e-mail wanting to take my husband and me out to dinner for Christmas and our anniversary (29 years on the 23rd). She suggested that they would like to take us to an East Indian restaurant that they enjoy. I've been there and it's not a fav but under 'normal' circumstance I could make do. However...
  23. I am a type 1 diabetic and I have been taking cinnamon capsules for about 5 months now because I had also heard that it helps to regulate BS levels. I have to say that I honestly have not seen any difference because of it. Of course, I had also started to push whole grains, wheat, etc. at the same time and that is when my stomach problems really kicked...
  24. Isn't it amazing? I have had sleep problems all of my life. (48 years old) Can remember laying awake most of the night when I was only 5 or 6 years old! I've been off of the gluten for 3 weeks now and I sleep so well! I spent the night on the couch at my daughter's last night because of the snow and slept like a baby which has never happened to me before...
