Not to beat a dead horse, but cheating is not worth the repercussions whether you feel them now or not. If you have another immune disease, and you cheat with the gluten-free stuff, you just make yourself more suceptable(sp) to other diseases, including cancer or lymphoma. I have a really good and fairly easy white bread recipe that is fairly comparable...

ARCHIVED What Proportion Are Self-diagnosed?
silk replied to CCM's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have to agree, Mushroom. While I had only begun the testing process for my pain and problems, I have had those problems all of my life (or at least for as long as I can remember). When all of the tests that had been done showed nothing, my Dr. suggested that we should look into other things such as Celiac Sprue. Having never heard of it, I searched the... -
Well it should be soooo obvious! "Green" tea! (Of course you can lace it with anythin, ya like! but the eventual outcome of overdoing that one would be that YOU would probably turn green too!)

ARCHIVED Other Intolerances Go Away As Intestines Heal, Or Are Forever?
silk replied to ar8's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I like what Lore said about the food diary. That makes a lot of sense and although I have seen it here before (I've been gluten-free since mid-November) I have yet to utilize it but I am seriously considering it. I felt really great for a couple of weeks after cutting out all of the gluten, with the exception of a couple of episodes of unexpected gluten... -
Just started reading this on my lunch hour today. OMG! I wanted to lick the words off of the pages. She writes about food so beautifully that I want to leave work now so I can go home and cook and I'm only into the first or second chapter! Thanks for the info. Looking forward to the rest of the book!

Exactly! Actually, my thought was that dating with an STD would be right up there at the top of the list. I guess if I had to choose, I would much rather tell someone I couldn't eat gluten. It's not like you can give them Celiac disease. Not contagious. STD's would be a bit more awkward. I would have to agree that if you can manage not to make it...

"Chain family restaraunts are really not much different than fast food, in that the food is all created on an assembly line somewhere else so that basically unskilled workers can quickly put it together in to an appealing meal. These arent chef's working there - i cooked at Denny's for 8 months and was told I would be able to get a job anywhere in the country...

I am learning to enjoy cooking for myself and my family again but as originally stated, it is never just a spontaneous event but requires much planning and preparedness. I spent two nights at my daughter's house and felt like I was packing for a month because of the stuff I had to take so that I could eat 3 meals a day gluten-free. 1 bag for clothing, ...

Glad for your husband's new job. And totally get the insurance thing. Went without it for manyeeee years and it is tough. It would take an act of God to get me to the Dr. unless the illness fell under the 'bleeding or burning' rule when we were without coverage. I don't have much experience with DH so maybe someone who has it can fill in the blanks...

You can take an antihistamine like benadryl or something similar for the itching. Also, warm baths with aveno are suppose to be pretty helpful. I'm sure that you're not feeling especially lucky but from what I understand, you should feel fortunate that you got the chicken pox and not the shingles, which are related to the chicken pox and usually only adults...

I'm praying that it is temporary. I have also cut nuts and tomatoes out. I have tried to re-introduce the tomatoes twice and that did not go so well, so I will leave them alone. The weird thing is that I do okay with ketchup but anything like a tomato sauce really gets to me quickly. I also seem to have a hard time digesting raw fruit like apples and pears...

I agree with you Wonka. Because people use 'interesting' names for their posts, I usually have to check the spelling at least once before I reply. I will be happy to send you the recipes. As I explained to someone else, the bread recipe is from a cookbook that I had checked out from the library and I had to return it. And because I have ordered it for...

I don't watch 'House', but I think that is a great idea so I will leave it up to those of you who do, to write it. This has been a great distraction for the past few days and a lot of fun. I think it would be neat to continue along the same lines with other things/shows. This thread is called 'Coping' and I really believe that much of the way...

I'm sorry Wonka, I'm not sure who your question was intended for. I offered to provide a recipe for someone earlier in this thread but I'm not sure if someone else made the same offer??? If I am the person you were requesting the recipe from, I would be happy to help you. If not, I'm not sure that it's clear who you are talking to. Also, if it is me...

RiceGuy said: "Thing is, this would need one heck of an investigator to notice something like that. I mean, even doctors who look for Celiac don't see it, so who among the famous crime solvers would be believable?" Tsk, tsk, tsk. Need you seriously ask this question? Isn't it obvious which investigator would solve this crime? ST. HORATIO, HIMSELF...

ARCHIVED Celiac Disease And Attention Deficit Disorder
silk posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I know this is probably way over the top but I hear so much about 'brain fog' here and I know that for myself I sometimes have a very hard time focusing in on one thing and am easily distracted. This was never a problems for me until that past 5 years or so. I could not even pick up book for over three years because I could not sit long enough and focus on... -
I do the list too. It's really helpful. The only problem is that I need to make a list to remind me to take my list when I go to the store. If I go without a list and only need one thing, I come out with every thing but what I went in for. It's like AADD. Once I walk through those doors, there is so much to look at and see that I can't focus on the...

Not sure you can include DNA evidence here without getting disgusting. This illness lends itself to disgusting bathroom humor! Maybe you could find a copy of the perp's Enterolab results somewhere along the crime trail? Actually, we could take a page from Mr. Whipple's story. I think the way they catch him is that they find him attempting to collect TP...

Neroli said: "I have been building up my baking supplies (everytime I start to make something it seems like I need something I don't have--maybe I should start a basic gluten-free pantry list?)" Hi Neroli! Boy, if this isn't the truth! I buy things that I see listed in recipes that I want to try so that I have them on hand, and then forget that I have...

Welcome flourgirl. Don't you just love that roller coaster ride we are on? Sometimes it does that way. I used to love amusement parks. (Anybody know where I can score a gluten-free soft pretzel and mustard?) It is so easy to get depressed about the process when you are not feeling well. Getting used to the taste of the gluten-free breads was not as hard...

It seems like it is much easier if you think outside of the box (literally for American food!) I love that.. too funny. Actually, I collect cookbooks and love try new things. Time becomes a major factor on the weekdays when your learning to work with a new discipline but look out on the weekends! Tapioca flour is flying everywhere! My husband...

I am so sorry. I was looking at the elimination diet as a very real possibility but cut the dairy, nuts, and tomatoes along with the gluten and seem to be doing okay. After seeing what you can eat, I feel like I get to visit the Old Country Buffet for the Tie On Your Bib and Dig In Feast! It really is so hard sometimes to cook things that you can't...

I found it at fante.com. It was quite reasonably priced. You can also find it by going to the Food Network website and typing in that word in the area where the have products for sale.

Um....GwenB...I think that if most of us are gluten free, we are all having 'REAL FOOD MOVEMENTS' everyday. (Sorry, bathroom humor ) I would be happy to share the ravioli recipe with you. Would you like me to p.m. it to you? It does contain parmasean but would be equally delicious without because the filling also has spinach, mushrooms and ground beef...
