  1. First, make sure you are in the middle of your cycle and not right before your period. Your breasts are too swollen and tender. If that's the case, you might want to reschedule it until after your period. Trust me, it'll make a difference during the procedure. I'm not going to sugar coat it, it's not the most comfortable procedure in the world. But...
  2. I used to have sleep problems so my dr. suggested melatonin. I tried it and now it's part of my night-time routine. Here are some suggestions: I take 1mg. each night. It's a perfect dose for me and if there's a night where I really need my sleep, I can take two or three. I take the sublingual kind (it goes under the tongue). This goes directly into...
  3. I use the chicken base in rice and it gives it more flavor. I just mix a couple of tablespoons in the water and add it to the rice. I don't think my kids will eat rice if it didn't have this base in it!
  4. My doctor highly recommends probiotics. They keep the good bacteria flourishing in your intestines. They help especially when you are on antibiotics since it kills pretty much most of the bacteria in your body, good and bad (hence, that's why women get yeast infections when they are on antibiotics). I've used the kind that's kept in the fridge to pills...
  5. I found this recipe on the back of a bag of gluten-free Oats Old Fashioned Rolled Oats. I just made them and they are delicious! Monster Oatmeal Cookies 1/4 C butter, at room temp 3/4 C sugar 3/4 C brown sugar 2 eggs 1 tsp gluten-free vanilla 1 1/4 tsp baking soda 1 C peanut butter 3 C gluten-free Rolled Oats 6 oz. gluten-free chocolate...
  6. Thanks Ursa! I was just at Walmart and got a nice, inexpensive toaster along with some spoons. I didn't think about the wooden cutting boards and colanders. (sigh) Back to Walmart I go !
  7. I'm gluten-free, but my family isn't. I spray the counters with a disenfectent spray, is that enough? Also, I cook with wooden spoons, but when I cook I make sure that the spoon is used only for my food. We use the dishwasher to clean our dishes, is that enough to get any gluten residue out of my wooden spoons? Thanks!
  8. Now I thought distilled vinegar contains wheat so that's why I stay away from most bbq sauces and mayonnaises.
  9. Welcome to Chicago! I'm assuming you will be in the City. Here are some choices you have: PF Changs 530 N. Wabash Adobo 1610 N. Wells (it's in the River North area, which is about a 15 min. walk or a quick cab ride if the weather is nasty) Those are a start. Since I've become gluten-free, I haven't eaten much in the City. I had heard some of...
  10. I'm an even 6'0!!
  11. I do wonder that too! My mother was depressed, developed type 2 diabetes, and had a plethora of health issues. Granted she was overweight, smoked, and lived a sedentary life. But I wonder if some of her depression and weight problems were from gluten? We wondered if she had an underactive thyroid, which is an autoimmune disorder, which sometimes develops...
  12. Hi Meredith! It took me almost 3 years to accept that I needed to be gluten-free. I didn't have the major, immediate reactions so it was easy for me to eat gluten. It is a hard diet to follow and can be expensive ($7 for a loaf of gluten-free bread!!), but you need to know you are helping your body out in the long run. I'm getting better educated on...
  13. I bought a gluten-free stuffing mix and it turned out dry - I thought I'd have time to get some gluten-free gravy, but I didn't so I was stuck with this dry concoction. I had a hit and it was pumpkin pie made with gluten-free graham cracker crust. My non-gluten-free family loved it! Laura
  14. I tried the Chebe rolls this Thanksgiving and they were great!! The directions said if the dough was too sticky to add more mix or something else, I can't remember. It did say to make them no larger than 1.5". I got the cheese rolls and the directions were pretty straightforward. Sorry to hear you had bad luck with them - I enjoyed them and so did my...
  15. Janet, Thanks! I remember having a hard time with pizza. I just couldn't give that up! I've tried making my crust - yuk and too time consuming - to buying the ones that resemble cardboard. I found Chebe pizza crusts in the frozen food section at my local Meijer and they are really good!! It satisfies my pizza cravings!! As most things in life,...
  16. Worriedwife, I agree with you. Cancer runs in my family which makes me want to change my eating habits even more than ever. My mom had lung cancer and my dad had colon cancer (I am diligent about getting a colonoscopy every 5 years). Laura
  17. Ravenwoodglass, I was very sickly as a child, too. The doctor's always thought I was anemic, but my iron levels were normal. I was also epileptic - but my doctor has gotten me off of my meds. I've been seizure-free for years! As an adult, I was pretty healthy. But that changed once I turned 40. I guess my body got tired of fighting with all that...
  18. Thank you Sarah! I'm glad to hear that there is candy corn out there that tastes like Brachs! It's my fall treat! I used to be so healthy, never getting anything more than one slight cold a year. Then I started getting stomach virus' pretty regularly. I realize it's not going to end these illnesses forever, but hopefully cut down the number of times...
  19. I plan on taking my son to Culver's today and was wondering if anyone has had problems with their icecream. Their nutrition information won't specify if the ice cream is gluten-free because they have many flavors. Obviously, if the ice cream flavor of the day has "cheesecake" in the name it's assumed there's gluten in it. But I should be safe with the vanilla...
  20. Hello! Several years ago I developed soreness and stiffness in my knees. After many visits to an orthopedic specialist, physical therapy, and even a rheumatoid specialist - after being diagnosed with Lyme Disease and put on antibiotics, RA and put on prednisone, I was so frustrated with doctors and I went searching online. I found out about gluten...
