  1. Hi Ambarnha, The bacteria aren't all bad. We do need them to help us digest food. But there are many strains of them in the gut and they have various niches they fit. It's when they get out of balance that there are problems. That's why it is important to take the pro-biotics, to help restore a proper bacterial balance. Try to get a pro-biotic with...
  2. Hi Fergusminto, Many of us develop additional food intolerances beyond just wheat, rye, barley and oats. Actually only around 10% or so of celiacs are intolerant to oats. But nightshades, eggs, corn, soy, and many other foods can become problems. if you read the signature lines under people's posts they sometimes lists other food intolerances. Anyhow...
  3. Hi Albarnha, "Normal" people shouldn't have any reaction to stopping eating gluten. Changes in digestion after stopping gluten are suggestive of an issue with digesting gluten, or a reaction by the body to gluten. The ability to digest dairy lactose shouldn't change because of not eating gluten in a non-celiac. Bloating can be and often is, a sign...
  4. Hi Ambarnha, Welcome to the forum! If you are feeling better without gluten, that pretty much tells the tale about the need to be gluten-free right? Testing and a diagnosis is possible after being gluten-free, but you would have to go back on gluten for 6 weeks to 3 months to get the antibodies up in the bloodstream. Many people don't want to do...
  5. Another great idea IH, boiled eggs! Thanks! I got mini boxes of raisins one time. Those might be good too. RE: buying ahead of time. You do know it is important to test the goods out before distributing to minors right? Somebody has to do it!
  6. Welcome to world of gluten-free eating! There are thousands of people here who have gone gluten-free and lived to tell the tale. I was diagnosed about the same age as you. Ever hear that song line, I never promised you a rose garden? Kind of right I suppose. But if you stick with the gluten-free diet strictly your body can start absorbing nutrients...
  7. It does take a while (as in months) to adjust to being gluten-free. It's a big change for most people, and the body needs to adjust. One thing that might be happening is you are used to being bloated all the time, and now when you are not so bloated your stomach feels empty. Drinking lots of water might help that. Being hungry after going gluten-free...
  8. Oh, I hadn't thot of dental floss IH! Those kids really need some proper dental hygiene after all. Great idea! Actually, my sister suggested giving them kale. Eww! Even I am not that low... or am I? Maybe herbal tea bags would be good...
  9. Hi Huppa, It sounds like you doing so much better being gluten-free! There are threads on the board about people gaining lots of weight and having celiac disease. It is not as unusual as you might think. Celia disease damages the villi lining the small intestine, which impairs the ability to absorb nutrients, including vitamins and minerals. That...
  10. Nature Made is good. except for the melt in you mouth type, those ones have gluten.
  11. Thanks for the candy list nice lady! One treat that kids here seem to really like is roasted, salted peanuts in the shell. I got several big bags of them one year and most of the kids wanted them. Seems like a good treat to me since it is low sugar and all that. They are somewhat less expensive than sugary chocolate which is nice.
  12. We haven't seen this guy for a while, so seems like a good time to let him out for a walk. http://www.onemotion.com/flash/spider/
  13. Hi Diana, To answer your question, I think sometimes people don't heal quickly because they are experiencing damage from other food intolerances, or they are not really as gluten-free as they think they are. Especially for beginners, it seems to take a while to get used to avoiding gluten.
  14. Hi Michiganlynn, If you are concerned it may not be a long enough time on gluten, you might be able to delay your doctor appointment for a couple weeks more. It used to be the standard time for a gluten challenge was 3 months. There is no guarantee it will be be a positive test of course. Have you noticed any change in symptoms from stopping gluten...
  15. Drive by. Don't know if this was already posted or not. A song about cookies and them not being gluten-free. And, possible issues with wif-fi and plants: http://news44.net/?p=452
  16. Hi NoGlutencooties, Here a couple articles on NCGS that might interest you. They think it is a different immune response than what happens in celiac disease. They call it the innate immune response. Non-celiac wheat sensitivity article https://www.celiac.com/articles/23033/1/Non-Celiac-Wheat-Sensitivity-It-Exists/Page1.html Innate immune response...
  17. Hi MChase, It would be better to get the full celiac antibodie panel now. Even if the biopsy doesn't show celiac disease, your blood antibodies may show it. The nice things about having the test results for antibodies is you can get them tested again later and verify if they have gone down or not. I think you meant to say no scalloping right? A...
  18. Hi Mark, Gall bladder issues generally react when eating greasy foods. SO if you want to eliminate that possibility, instead of a burger on a bun, just eat some bread. Or, just eat a burger with no bread. Actually it would be better to try the burger with no bread first. Pain can definitely be a symptom of celiac disease.
  19. Hi Amy, Yes, very small amounts of gluten can make you sick. Celiac disease is an autoimmune condition, and your immune system is very sensitive. If it weren't germs would take over your body and do nasty things to you. So it is always active looking for possible invaders, like gluten. When it detects an invader it goes into active attack/defense...
  20. Hi Rayray, Welcome to the forum! I don't think the Paleo diet is designed specifically for these food intolerances. It is mostly avoiding processed foods and grains in my understanding. But if you are looking for a starting point on diet ideas it should work for that.

  22. @Tonalyn, I hope things are starting to work for you Tonalyn. Once you get used to the changes, gluten-free is not difficult. The adjustment can be a bit of a bear though. @Mesadora, Welcome Anne, it's good to have you here! Don't worry about asking silly questions, or having a little rant now and then. We all do it sometimes. It's all...
  23. Good for you Famgrl! It seems to me the first couple months of eating gluten-free are the most intense. After 6 months or so it becomes more 2nd nature and not a big deal for many people. Learning to eat differently just takes a little time is all. I think it was Dr. Peter Green's book that suggested around 6 months of gluten-free recovery before...
  24. Hi Jim, Here's some ideas that might help you. Celiac disease is an auto-immune condition. The immune system reacts for weeks to months at a time. So eating gluten twice a month means the immune reaction never stops. It only takes a small amount of gluten to trigger a reaction. So you need to be careful of cross-contamination. Sticking to whole...
  25. Welcome to the forum! It sounds like your negative body reactions to reintroducing gluten were pretty clear. that's actually a helpful thing itself, because you know it causes problems Even without a diagnosis, you know that gluten causes some kind of harm to your body or you wouldn't have symptoms. The docs should (if they haven't already) check...
