  1. I'm just checking this now...so the results were? (for both the celiac disease and the thrush/yeast?) Oh, and just so you know, it generally "always" looks normal in children. They haven't had years of damage yet. My doc said the same thing to me, freaked me out (bc then I was wondering if it's not celiac disease what could it be?!) and when I told the...
  2. Hay is not generally wheat/barley/rye or oat. There are many types of hay, alfalfa being one, but not a gluten source. Now, that said, I am in Vermont so maybe it's different where you are. Bridget
  3. And Planters is a Kraft company and therefore lists. Maybe you just ate too many! ;-) Bridget
  4. Someone on the Delphi forum just posted (last night??) that they went to their local Olive Garden and they actually now have a gluten-free menu. It's a chain, so it must be "coming out" at some point. hmmm.... Bridget
  5. SOOOO????? How did it go????
  6. I made the flour tortilla's yesterday from Bette Hagman's book...and was TOTALLY frustrated at rolling them out by hand. They kept sticking to the plastic wrap. I had to use so much cornstarch to keep them from sticking I hope they don't taste horrible!!1 Bridget
  7. I only have one, and it's Bette Hagman's gluten-free Gourmet Living Well without Wheat. It has some great recipes, and easy. The Tapioca Bread is the closest thing to "real" white sandwich bread ever!!! Bridget
  8. Bread machine: I have a bread machine, and I can honestly say I haven't touched it. I find it's actually easier to make it in the oven. I have a heavy-duty Kitchenaid mixer and do it that way. gluten-free bread only rises once, there is no kneading, so it's just as easy to make it in the oven as it would be to use a bread machine. And given some of the things...
  9. Hmmm....if you can, I'd call the on-call doc from the practice tonight. My son could not have anything to eat OR drink before his endoscopy. They don't want anything in there that could "come up" if they vomit. Bridget
  10. First, don't feel guilty. You can't bc you will make yourself crazy...and then confirm your family's thoughts! And we wouldn't want them to be right, right?! That said, you go and you get your answers. My son was diagnosed in June at 2 1/2 years old, and he was down to 23 lbs. The endoscopy is no big deal, and in fact your son will not even remember...
  11. First off, how old is Taylor? I ask bc he/she cannot eat or drink before this procedure, and if Taylor is a young child that will be hell. Our hospital schedules these things youngest to oldest, so my son at 2 1/2 got to go at 8:30 am. Also, an enema? Why? That wasn't part of our endoscopy. Hmmm... But don't be terrified of the endoscopy itself. As...
  12. JSIB...remember, Celiac is not an allergy, so your child could very well not have any allergies (including wheat) and still have Celiac. I would suggest to your Pedi. GI that they go to the NASPGHAN.org and look up Celiac Disease. This is the website for Pedi. GI's and they will find all they need to know. The good news, for both of you, is that children...
  13. Well, here's the deal. Kids this age tend to heal relatively quickly, bc there just has not been the years of damage that occurs in older kids or adults. So, the fact that she's been gluten-free may 'mess up' the endoscopy. However, if she's eating a normal diet again and you are starting to see "some signs" why wait for the worst to happen...diarhea, weight...
  14. I heard the same thing about Ian's...and he's got an allergen free fish stick too!!! My son will be in heaven if I can ever find these things. I haven't been successful yet, but I think they were just introduced recently so fingers crossed.... Bridget
  15. Your child is old enough to understand. If he was 2, I wouldn't of explained it as deep bc they just don't understand at that age. And they also don't have to fend for themselves. Your son is at an age where he will be out "in the world" at friends houses, at school, etc... and he will have to deal with food every step of the way. And, unfortunately, more...
  16. You really don't want to know about whey...it's a very weird consistency...but it is gluten free but NOT dairy free. It IS dairy, actually. As for glutamate, not a clue what that is (other than it's usually preceded by mono-sodium...) Bridget
  17. Well, I emailed them myself last week (at the restaurants web site) and sang your incognito praises for this thread as well. So, hopefully at least someone has now seen this twice. I still think they should give you a free class for all the publicity I alone will be giving NECI. Yeah, right. I work at a college, I know how it really works. Anyway,...
  18. I heard the Welshire Kids nuggets are not being produced any longer, they are looking for someone else to make these apparently. Sigh. I also use the Mrs. Leepers pasta meals. They are sort of a like a hamburger helper thing, but they are GREAT. There's a chicken alfredo one...you can add the chicken or not. My two year old loves this. And there are some...
  19. Ruth, I am so glad you posted that list link. I couldn't find that one to give her, the only one I could remember was the delphi forums one. Between the list you gave, and teh delphi one, I have a great variety of foods to choose from. I think it's funny that all three of these lists have things the others don't. I took all three, and combined them with...
  20. Sharon, First, you are in a great place and welcome! You will find many helpful parents here. My son was just diagnosed in June, but he's only 2 1/2 and we didn't have the experience you are having. Fortunately. That said, I can assure you that "putting him under" for the endoscopy is no big deal. My son came out of it within a half an hour and immediately...
  21. Terri, What Soy? There is no soy in the gluten-free Rice Cheese pizza by Amy's. She does make a soy cheese pizza, but the crust is not rice/gluten-free it's a regular pizza crust with soy cheese. Bridget
  22. Aren't vermicelli noodles wheat based?
  23. I just want to say that we haven't tried eating out gluten-free yet....I'm working up the courage...but now that I know NECI is training it's students so well we're there!! I live her in Burlington and can't wait to take our son to his first dinner out!! ConcernedCook, you have just won a lot of business for NECI. They should give you a tuition break as a...
  24. My son is 2 1/2 and was just diagnosed in June, he's in a daycare as well and I work full-time. I don't know what kind of daycare your son is in, mine is in a home so it's not a big center and he's been there since he was 8 weeks old and thankfully Debbie is maticulous about cleaning....she even cleaned out a whole crisper drawer just for his stuff!! My son...
  25. Hi Rian, I haven't forgotten you, life is just crazy right now! I will email soon, I swear... Bridget
