  1. first congrats to the OP. I went through something similar. To Roda, have you gone and had inserts made for your shoes? They are expensive but have made a huge difference for me. When I first got them, before going gluten-free, I had to have them on all the time, even around the house. After going gluten-free I just wear them when I wear shoes and...
  2. Based on others recomendation's here we ordered some UDI White Sandwich bread and some pizza crust. We'll be trying the pizza crust tonight but we just had the bread. Incredible, its just a tad bit dry but its light and airy like regular bread and the flavor is pretty spot on. You could spread some butter on it and eat it. I made a grilled cheese...
  3. I end up meeting a lot of customers at coffee shops for meetings. I personally do not like coffee, but every Starbucks I've been into I've been told that they are not gluten-free by the manager/employee. Nothing that comes out of their equipment is gluten-free including the hot chocolate. The local coffee shop in town I get the same a reaction and...
  4. Correct, the idea is the HSA gets you around the 7.5 requirement.
  5. The budget hit will fade. As you will find out, most of the stuff out there tastes like crap....but products today are way better than even a year ago. It is more expensive but I think by the time is all said and done your about 20 percent higher. Also see this thread: https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/index.php?showtopic=63447 Buying through...
  6. I do think celiac's are in a high risk group, IF they do not eat gluten-free. As far as socialized medicine, the minute I took my health into my own hands, started making my own decisions, my health improved. When you put the responsability of care on the individual versus having it all handed to them, they tend to make smarter choices, and spend less...
  7. Well considering celiac's is an autoimmune disorder and the article I am referring to(have to get the link) stated that part of celiac's is from an overactive immune system. I did find this: from Open Original Shared Link but I had read the original medical documentation that statement came from. The gist was, celiac's have a better overall...
  8. All Penzi's spices are gluten-free except for 4-5 out of the thousands they carry. We buy from there all the time and they were very helpful in avoidng the few we could not have.
  9. I just bought this for my iPhone. $5.99 and it is incredibly extensive. Products, ingredients, all kinds of great information on gluten-free products. Here is the website: Open Original Shared Link
  10. So for all the swine flu hype, and the governements massive attempts to create a crisis out of thin air it left me wondering about people with Celiac's. Some of the articles I've read say that Cecliac's have an over active immune system and therefore are LESS likely to get sick following a strict gluten-free diet. I know before my Cecliac's got bad...
  11. When I mean tax free I mean pre-tax. Prepared foods in Michigan are taxed, unprepared foods are not. This is a better way to explain it. You have 2 people, both make $60,000 a year. One has Celiac's, one does not. Person A and Person B eat the same foods, both available in gluten-free and non-gluten-free. Person A spends 100 a week in food...
  12. A stuudy posted recently has shown that Celiac's who stay off of gluten are healthier and live longer, 7 years on average than a regular person without Celicac's. Eat gluten however and you'll live 7 years LESS with lymphatic cancer being the number 1 killer. I don't know what incidental glutening does...Being in the sun outside all day without sunscreen...
  13. Since we just started our HSA I figured I'd post this up again as a reminder. I think this has been discussed before but not many people are aware that they can buy Gluten Free Items from their HSA and get the difference tax free. https://www.celiac.com/articles/835/1/Flexi...enne/Page1.html Prices on gluten-free products are coming down but still...
  14. Well after posting my L&P comparison I have my doubts about the US product being gluten free. We ate at home all week and night before last my wife made a new chilli recipe. Same tomatoe sauce we've used for years in our spaghetti sauce, same chilli powder we use in our spaghetti sauce(Penzi's, all gluten-free), Beef Stock clearly labled as gluten...
  15. Just another example. Worcestershire sauce made in Canada by Lea and Perrin's is malt based and is not gluten-free, but L&P made in the US is made without malt, and is gluten-free.
  16. Lisa, Here is a start: Open Original Shared Link That right there is a differnece in the main ingredient, sugar. That article you quoted most likely only concerned products produced and bottled in the US. Coke and other products are bottled regionally and no, its not all the same. If you travel around the country you will find it tastes different...
  17. As I found out last year, Coke made in Mexico is not gluten-free. Coke sold in glass bottles and made with 'real sugar', or Mexican Coke which they have been selling here in the US as a speciality item has malt in it and is not gluten-free.
  18. I used to go throuh the same thing with anti-biotics. As someone else said, eat probiotics, stay away from carbs/sugar the entire time your on them too. The balance is already upset and yeast growth will increase causing a lot of your problems. I have the same problem but only when I'm taking sugar/carbs and antibiotics. It kills off the good...
  19. I just went through my third attempt to see if yeast was my true issue. Over the past 3 months I have ate basically the same diet. Not the best diet but I wanted to be consistent. When I originally posted this topic I was feeling great. I stopped taking Candex and continued to eat the way I was. It took about 3-4 days but Thursday I met with a...
  20. I went through the same exact thing, see my post about yeast, that is what was causing my hypoglycemia and shaky/jittering feeling. As I go back through my symptoms, chart them out, compare it against foods I've ate, etc it all keeps leading me back to yeast growth. Good luck.
  21. I believe people take that for yeast issues. One of the advantages of Candex I believe is that it does not cause the 'death problems'....since Candex 'eats' yeast and other methods kill yeast when the yeast dies it releases a gas that can build up in the blood stream.
  22. Can't hurt, or at leatws can't seem to hurt from what I've read. Always best to check with your doctor but I looked at your sig. In the years before figuring out I had Celiac's I always told me doctor I thought it had something to do with Potatoes. Potatoes, rice, the sugars you mention. All of those things can effect yeast, and yeast can...
  23. I hope its gluten-free, I've been eating it like candy From the label: "Candex contains no articifial colorings, flavorings, GMO's, sugar, soy, yeast, dairy, corn, gluten, wheat, or other common allergens. It is suitable for vegetarians, etc..." I'm very sensative now and I've had zero ill effects from it.
  24. Candex worked, for me at least, fairly quickly. First thing to go was the brain fog/stuffiness feeling. Then over the course of 2 weeks I felt great. It also has the added benefit of making an accidentical glutening just the stomach issues, no after effects. I'd be interested to hear your results. I said everyone is different, it happened to work...
  25. My wife gets this. Caffeine is the cause. Doc told her its a common thing in women.
