ARCHIVED It's Not The End Of The World.
Eric-C replied to lsmall05's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm not getting my point understood in the correct light so I must not be explaining it correctly. As far as being defensive...hardly. People, in general, tend to make problems larger than they seem. When they do that the problem may really become larger than it is. My symptoms went on for years and were extremely bad, it took time to heal. All of... -
ARCHIVED It's Not The End Of The World.
Eric-C replied to lsmall05's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I wasn't trying to be mean. I think some people use their problems as crutches. I have had every single symptom posted on here except obviously the female ones and the rate I was going I'm sure that would have shown up too I have been down the bottom, the very bottom...I was told I had eschemia of the bowel, its not pretty. Not everyone... -
Someone posted on here before about a female doctor in Mid Michigan, around Flint/Grand Blanc who was either a gastrologist or a allergist and also has Celiacs. Anyone have the name?

ARCHIVED Length Of Discomfort After A Glutening
Eric-C replied to texas's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Gluten gives me all kinds of fits. Brain fog, migraines, you name it. For usually 2 weeks. I went on a hot dog eating binge after discovering they taste great without buns...oops...it was a slow ride down that I didn't catch until I crashed. Migraines, panic attacks, anxiety, sore muscles, never tired. That lasted 2 weeks with the first 2-3 days... -
ARCHIVED It's Not The End Of The World.
Eric-C replied to lsmall05's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'll add my two cents. There are some on here where this is a true hardship...if I had to watch every little thing I do, toothpaste, shampoo, walking past the bakery isle, then that truly is tough to do. However for the majority of us...I think people whine too much about it. Come on, its not THAT hard. We've had a gluten free diet for over... -
A friend found this T-shirt for me. Be forwarned, this site is not safe for work, its most likely offensive to someone(and kind of the point), but not much humor about Celiacs around here. Plus all their slogans come from people submitting them so I'd guess this came from someone with Celiacs. Again, no complaining about other content...click on...

ARCHIVED It's Official
Eric-C replied to bakinghomesteader's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I hate rice flour and all the flour alternatives. We've found it much easier to eat if we don't always try to relive old food habits with new food ingredients. The only exception is rice pasta which is pretty good. Otherwise we just eliminated everything else that would have included flour/gluten instead of trying the, usually poor, substitutes.... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-free Hypoglycemia Diet?
Eric-C replied to mattj's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My "hypoglycemia" went away with the gluten. In fact are you sure your hypoglycemic? I had all the symptoms myself but my blood sugar was rock solid at 90. It was just the gluten...I think the whole leaky gut think makes a lot of sense too. I gave up sugar along with flour and was doing great until our cruise Getting back on it... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Try Alegra?
Eric-C replied to Eric-C's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Just to be more clear. Alegra did not solve the gluten reaction. I still got "sick" what it did do is clear up the week long blah feeling I usually have afterwards. It turned a 6 day event into a 1 day event. The doctor told me even if it is Celiac's one of the reactions is a hystamene response so the Alegra will control that portion but not anything... -
ARCHIVED How Long Before I Heal
Eric-C replied to Froger850's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
A lot of it too deppends on your reaction too. Some people on here can't walk into a bakery, some people can ingest small amounts by accident and never notice. I've become more intolerant since I gave it up...before I could have small amounts regularly and it wasn't a big deal, now that I've totally given it up the most I can do is a little soy... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Try Alegra?
Eric-C replied to Eric-C's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Diagnosed as in tested...no...but here is a list of problems that went away when I stopped having gluten: Thorasic outlet syndome High blood pressure(120/90 pre, 90/70 post) planter fasciitis....this one really stumped the doc. Told me I'd need to wear supports for the rest of my life, couldn't walk without them, went 90 percent away in 3 months. Chronic... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Try Alegra?
Eric-C posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My wife and I took a short cruise for our anniversary about 2 months back. While there the ship served me food with bread crumbs in it even though they knew I had an allergy and I confirmed it ahead of time. Well I got sick, almost immediately. After reporting it to the people on the ship I went to see their doctor. Not much to do but figured best... -
We went to BW3's for lunch at work on Friday. Normally when we go someplace like that I order potato skins or something else that is safe. BW3's is nearly impossible for gluten free. I decided to have the wings that are unbreaded. I spoke to the waitress and she did warn me that they are fried in the same fryer as the rest of the stuff. I would consider...

I ate some mislabeled food 2 weeks ago and have a patch on my left leg 1/2 way between the waste and knee. I used to get these about 4 times a year when I was eating gluten...my doctor thought it was just somekind of yeast thing and prescribed me some medical strength cortisone cream. I'd use it and it'd go away, no biggie. My gluten intolerance...

ARCHIVED Whole Foods - Warning Mislabeled Product
Eric-C replied to Eric-C's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I talked to the manager who apologized and said she had contacted the corporate office to get it fixed. She is sending us out a gift card and refunding the monies spent on the items. I believe they will take this pretty seriously since its a cornerstone of the product they offer, being allergen alert and healthy. Thats part of the reason I did not... -
ARCHIVED Whole Foods - Warning Mislabeled Product
Eric-C posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I found this one out the hardway. We shop at Whole Foods and eat mostly organic. They are usually excellent about labeling their own products. Last week we bought 2 Portabella stuff mushrooms with a artichoke/crab meat mix. They make them there in the store. The label has an allergen list as all their labels do and Gluten/bread/bread crumbs was... -
ARCHIVED Head Twitches
Eric-C replied to Mr. Peppa's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Cut out the carbs and sugar. I get neurological problems like that. Hands/arms shaking and its a combination of things. Its an incredibly long story but basically if I get myself really screwed up with gluten the sugar/carbs go right into my blood stream, kind of like leaky gut. I had it happen last week to me. Sugar free(by choice for weight loss... -
ARCHIVED First "serious" Reaction
Eric-C posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Well I finally had my first very serious reaction to gluten....but as with all things I learned something. About 2 years ago I had a severe reaction to Cipro...I had severe anxiety, muscle aches, cramps, you name it I had it. It took nearly a year and a half to go away and honestly afterwards I never felt better. Last night it all returned... -
ARCHIVED Who Here Eats Oats? Safe?
Eric-C replied to Eric-C's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Well....I got my answer Won't go into the details but lets just say I'm very used to the stages this progresses. Now we used some oats we had bought a long time ago and they were generic, American Choice which I think was Farmer Jack's brand so who knows where they have been. One thing I've noticed is when I ate gluten regularly I could control... -
ARCHIVED Who Here Eats Oats? Safe?
Eric-C posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We started a no flour no sugar diet about a month and a half back. Many of the recipes talk about rolled oats and how good they are for you. I've read that oats themselves are gluten free but cross contamination may be an issue. So we made some cinammon apple bars with Agave for a sweetner. We had one when they were done and another after dinner... -
ARCHIVED Two And A Half Weeks Gluten Free - Unexpected Results
Eric-C replied to Eric-C's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I started feeling better within a day or two. My condition was not like some on here. I could have gluten once every 3-4 days and I'd never know there was a issue except for certain foods. If went over that I'd get stomach problems. I ate Sushi 3 times a week and the soy sauce plus the seaweed salad were heavy with wheat. I felt a very slight... -
ARCHIVED 3 Positve Things About Celiac Disease...
Eric-C replied to silk's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Even my endocronlogist that I went to go see(unrelated, I do not have diabetes) told me he has a few patients who went to a no flour/no sugar diet are off of insulin and things have started to work normally again. They can even re-introduce sugar into their diets again with no need for insulin. A guy I work with is currently undergoing testing at the... -
ARCHIVED 3 Positve Things About Celiac Disease...
Eric-C replied to silk's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Personally I don't like the word disease. I would more believe this is evolution at work...Celiac's and general gluten intolerance is growing and I think more people have it than realize it. Too much refining and too much flower, its just a natural reaction to it. I think the same of diabetes too. I caught my allergy very early. Now that I go back... -
ARCHIVED Legs Are So Weak
Eric-C replied to holdthegluten's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Having just started a low carb diet and based on your sig you sound like you just went gluten free I'd say that could be part of your problem. Cutting gluten is cutting out a lot of carbs and it takes a while for your body to adjust. Until we re-introduce carbs back into our diet in about another week we're taking 8 supplements a day. Ours is a bit more... -
ARCHIVED Low Carb And Gluten Free
Eric-C replied to SqueakLAG's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
We're on day 3 of our low carb diet. It for sure it simple to stay gluten free on it. We're both a little foggy but the weight is for sure coming off. Buy some Ketone strips and keep an eye on your keytone levels. I think low carb diets get a bad wrap because people just follow the diet in the book and are not watching their levels. The idea...
